- On April 15, 2014, Father Jerome Kern was deposed under oath as part of a sexual abuse lawsuit filed in Minnesota in November, 2013. On June 24, 2014 the deposition video and documents from Kern’s file were released to the public. Kern admits to sexually abusing children during his 30+ year career as a priest in the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis and documents show how officials failed to prevent Kern from abusing more children despite reports of inappropriate behavior with children dating back to 1969.

I actually think he does a terrible, terrible job in this deposition and the others. He needed to be far more specific about the allegations and not allow this "hugging and wrestling" bullshit. The "did you touch his genitals" stuff needed to be backed up, even if it led to a denial. He'd ask that and the priest says things like "outside the clothes?" or "I held him like this". Never once does he get to the damned point to me. Disappointing really. The priest kind of plays this attorney.

The case is about the systematic cover up of this man's sexual abuse of minors in his control as a priest. By keeping the admission level low, he is more likely to get multiple admissions to strengthen his argument. It's a strategy. If you go in too hard for a single admission, the deponent will shut down and quickly say no to absolutely everything. Your proposed technique is not a wise one.

He knew exactly what he was doing and that everything he did was wrong right from the first time when he threatened the child to not say anything. Stephen Pruszenski I just turned 44 and I left the Catholic Church right as confirmation classes were starting. I was young and it had nothing to do with any off this stuff. My mother and sister are still very devout Catholics. They are 2 of the most kind and amazing ladies I know. My mom is close with a lot of retired nuns and priests. She volunteers at a retirement home for them. She even participates in Christian prison ministry. I feel bad for my mom when stuff like this continues to come out. But, these guys are human. ALL HUMANS ARE FALLIBLE. They’re human before anything and ANYONE can be a pedophile. IMO I think this celibacy thing might have had some contributing factors. But, don’t feel ashamed of being Catholic. Never feel ashamed for having faith and love of a higher power. I think the Catholic Church has some accountability issues and need to take a serious look at how to better screen and manage clergy. Kind of like the crooked cops that got away with stuff for years. There are still bad cops out there but, I’d like to think that whole injustice is at least being addressed. Anyway, I’ve rambled on enough lol. Just want to tell Steven to be proud of who he is ♥️🙏🏽

ok I watched this to the very end and the end was like a sucker punch to the gut. I knew nothing about this story so to hear at the end about the boy who took his own life over this and the reading of his suicide note completely knocked me off guard. And to find that out at the very very end made it especially poignant. But then the absolute worst of all, is when the lawyer asks how he feels now after having been read that note and knowing that he had a hand in why this boy took his own life and subsequently asking him if he feels at all responsible. And then without even flinching or showing one ounce of remorse, he simply says "no" as if he'd just been asked if he'd had lunch yet today. To me, that was the moment he most showed how much of a monster he really was. Even more than the inappropriate laughter.

Abuse is sad for so many reasons but one thing that hits me hard about priests is this: for many people their faith is a source of hope, strength, and comfort that gets them through bad times in their life, so one of the most damaging things about abuse from a religious leader is that he made it be where their experience with faith WAS their bad time in life, he may have destroyed their ability to have faith be a source of hope and comfort. How can they have any positive feeling about faith now? He's cut off a source of help for them. I think making someone feel separated from God is like the ultimate devastating thing you can do. I hope this guy gets reminded of the part of the bible where Jesus says if anyone is a cause of harm to one of these little ones who believe in me it would be better for them to have a millstone hung around their neck and be dropped into the sea.

These are damaged, stunted "men". They have no capacity for adult relationships and absolutely try to wiggle out of answering questions the way a child would. Absolutely disgraceful the way he distances himself from his actions.

*My heart aches for all the "John doe's" on that list. Im literally sobbing as this triggered my memory to go back *when I was 7 yrs old and was violated by my favorite person on this Earth. 😢I didn't even know it was bad the things he was doing. My little brother saw these acts being committed on me by my uncle and thankfully told my mom and dad, long story short, the Covington KY police Chief came to my classroom with my parents and straight to the ER we went, then from there, the police station 😭. My parents learned that their 7 yr old little girl was no longer a virgin and was abused for years right under their noses. My dad almost killed his brother for doing what he did to me, and served 22 years in prison. MY abuser can no longer walk, talk, eat or take a shit in a normal fashion. He's wheelchair bound and requires round the clock care. Clostamy bag and feeding tube. Pretty much a vegitable. My dad beat him with a metal pipe and was sure he was dead when he was done and walked away. I love my dad so much, but # the time I wished he didn't do that. He lost his freedom for me. Almost 25 years gone because of me, && my mom became a single mother of 7 and struggled because of me...my dad is out of prison now, but still on parole and I'm currently an adult, happily married, with precious babies of my own, and being a mother, I now understand the love my daddy feels for me and the guilt my dad must have felt for what his brother put me thru, I now know why he tried to kill his brother, I would definitely do the same for my little ones*
I'm so sorry for rambling I can't help it I'm hurting so so much for this demons victims & I pray the Lord helps them thru this and all the residual effects (emotional and mental) left behind by this spawn of Satan. His perversion and forbidden acts "administered" upon the innocent youth that looked to him for structure, self discipline and guidance during a very vulnerable time in their lives.
My cousin took her own life because her stepfather abused her for years. She had a mental breakdown at 16 and told her mum. He got seven years in prison. Just seven years. I'm really sorry for your ordeal. I hope you find piece of mind in life.
