Original comment: "(...) In any case, this is an excellent sounding show of the earlier version of Colours, which included Jon Christensen on drums. This band did the Yellow Fields album. Only one track here is from that release, so I'm not sure about the origins of the other songs played here.
This band played a unique style of jazz (fusion?) that was very European sounding compared to a lot of other things that were getting spun on turntables or broadcast on the radio waves back then. I loved Mahavishnu, Weather Report, RTF, Oregon and the Prog of Yes and Crimson in the days when Colours were recording and performing. This music fit in perfectly in my mind with the rest of them. It also helped me to dive deeper into many of the great things that ECM was releasing at that time, and into some of the other fine European players like Philip Catherine, Wolfgang Dauner, and Jasper Van't Hof.
Huge thanks to whoever made this recording available to me, and to the taper who first began circulating this NDR broadcast. Please support all of the musicians you admire by purchasing their commercially released material, and through seeing them live when possible."
