I’ve watched this video multiple times already and keep coming back to it. Kudos… Great video on golf specific flexibility tests and subsequent stretches to improve range of motion. Billy provided great explanation for the tests and exercises. Best part is that these require no special equipment and can be done anywhere, anytime.

This is great just what I’m needing after my lesson today. Struggling to shallow my club by keeping the elbow tucked in is hard and like you, I didn’t realise how flexible you need to be. These exercises will really help me. Thank you so much.

Glad it was helpful!! Yeah lack of mobility and flexibility can restrict us from many movements we wanna be in!!

@golfslump great video and very useful information. Thanks for that 👍. There are many flexibility movements explained here and not easy to remember so I wish you had organized it by stretch/ mobility numbers so we could easily reference it while trying them out.
Another thing I'm wondering is that , how much of this is overkill for the recreational golfer? I mean, 99 % of the people will not even get close to these mobility ranges. I've also seen your swing and it looks as fluid as a pro swing to me even though you didn't fare well in these mobility tests. That's interesting isn't it? I think from an injury prevention goal, some of these would be very useful but obviously the body finds a way to hit the ball. Hope you can re- edit and post this in a way that can be a follow along style video. Honestly, I think a lot of us will look at these mobility movements and get a reality check that we are NEVER going to be able to swing the way we want to. It's helpful and discouraging at the same time 😀

It’ll take time to become flexible. If done slowly and consistently, anyone can improve. We may not be able to get the full range of motion but I don’t think we should be discouraged by our own flexibility limitations, every little bit of improvement helps in the long run

Would love to know some stretches for retirees with limited physicality but still having the same needed areas to stretch as mentioned in the video.

These are great exercises. I' greatly appreciate the video. Should these exercises concentrate on static stretching or dynamic stretching? My thoughts are static stretching during the week when not playing and a short period of dynamic stretching before playing. Thanks

I'm hyper-mobile, can rotate more than pretty much anyone thanks to 10 years of power yoga but it doesn't help me avoid fat shots. The mobility also doesn't help me avoid duffing, skulling and fluffing chips. What I will say is that Yoga has genuinely made me a happier man and it's the best choice I've probably ever made.

Great point no one talks about this. I’m also hyper mobile, what I found is a need to focus on stability in the lower body. Think it will help you in improving. You may feel like you aren’t doing anything when making a good swing.

I'm a 57 yo construction worker who does not do much for fitness. Last year, I discovered that I couldn't rotate my right shoulder back very far. My hand would stop a little past 45°. I thought no wonder I can't stop "over the top", my body don't move like that. After working on flexing farther back by intentionally focusing on engaging the muscles on the back of the shoulder, I was finally able to get back past vertical and now I seem to feel "dropping in the slot" and swinging inside out. I had never been able to feel that and just assumed it was a technique that I couldn't grasp. When I continue working on this, I stop fading, and can hit a controlled draw or fade as I choose. If I forget to work on it, the fade comes back along with the occasional slice. Amazing. Although my normal driver miss is a heel strike and learning how "Gear effect" influences ball side spin blew my mind.

Maybe I’m just having a bad hair day, but this is so close up on these two guys. I often can’t see their feet or I can’t see certain parts of what they’re talking about. It would’ve helped me immensely if they would’ve backed up a little bit to give me a better, Field of vision

Yoo. Recently i pulled a Gluteus Medius- basically the TOP OF MY RIGHT ASS CHEEK... it's the muscle that you use if you wanted to lift your leg out to the side..but also it's my back leg muscle i load into then power through my down swing.. holy SHI* it hurt..so swinging around it to avoid pain butchered my golf swing...

    • @Vermonstered

Depends, those doing full range of motion lifts will have an easier time. The reason why the muscle shortens is because of the lack of strength across the full range of motion. Hence why with any stretching routine you need a strength component otherwise the muscle will just shorten itself again to limit mobility to gain strength in the limited range of motion. In truth it's the repetitive motion sports that have the hardest time with mobility as the core function of say an endurance runner or cyclist is exactly limited range of motion 10,000x a workout. I know I lost the most mobility training for a marathon and then a few triathlons.
