- There is a reason why I always recommend to do the training simulations if you're a brand new player to Elite Dangerous Odyssey. So today the trolls said the training simulations for Elite Dangerous Odyssey suck, they are 8 years old and can't teach any new player how to play Elite Dangerous Odyssey. That's a strong opinion definitely not based on actually doing a simulation..
I am going to show you the main simulation tutorial for ships. There are many of them just like this one to teach you how to play Elite Dangerous Odyssey. There is a reason why content creators don't really make videos on this stuff. Because it's already done well and up to date..
So don't be one of those Commanders who freak out on someone about not knowing how to play when it really is as simple as just doing a simple simulation. Trust me if you do you won't lay into someone because you simply won't do a simulation. The simulation tutorials in Elite Dangerous Odyssey are there for a reason. To hold the hand of the new player and teach them the basics of how to teach the new player how to play Elite Dangerous Odyssey.
If you choose not to do them you will get frustrated and probably quit playing the game because there is a lot to playing Elite Dangerous Odyssey.

I remember playing the training scenarios quite a few years ago when I first picked up Elite. Although I'd never say they were useless they were tough especially the combat ones.
But when Oddesey launched they revamped all of them and I did them again for a laugh, honestly, I think a lot of effort was put in to the training simulations to get new players up to speed. I can't fault it.
They even have a system dedicated to only new players so they don't get ganked... What more can you ask for? 😁

Kudos for doing this video. Love all your videos. The people that diss these training sims probably never actually tried them, I learned heaps from them when I started ED about a year ago. Too many people just want to rush the game to get to a certain goal, forgetting there is often more fun in the journey than the destination.

I wish I got to do all this. A well-meaning buddy fast tracked me through the Odessey tutorial into the real world where he was, and I never got to experience any of the starter systems, or tutorials to the point I was calling the Fuel Rats once left on my own. I had no idea this was in the game until now and would have been a big help in the early moments as Elite can be quite intimidating for a new commander.
Quite the grizzled vet now as a lot of this I learned the hard way.

I took a years long break from Elite between Horizons and Odyssey, and decided "I know how to fly in this, I'm good." then immediately got dropped into the on foot combat tutorial. Which I'm fine with, it was a new system for that expansion. But I relied heavily on docking and supercruise computers. Managing to land on a planet with no supercruise assist, no auto landing... that was a satisfying feeling. Hell, dropping out of glide 3Km right above a planetary settlement after no supercruise assist was a great feeling. But there is one thing that the tutorials will never prep you for, and that is the first time you get yanked back into normal space when traveling between systems by two thargoids. One second I was just cruising along, planning the next jump, the next, I got 2 bugs on my tail. I put pips into systems and engines, full throttle, hitting the boost button like a mad man until the FSD was off cooldown, lined up with my destination, and took off. When I came out of the jump, I finally remembered to breathe.
Had a friend new to elite and heavily recommend him do the tutorial, I never did it and started blindly, worst mistake I ever made. he never somehow understood the tutorial in the combat bit even with me coaching him, he got mad and gave up, but I think the tutorials would have given me a better head start
Doing the trainign with an XBox controller is fantastic. The prompts are always on the dot and helped me find out what controls I'd need to REALLY bind when I got my HOTAS setup. It is FAR from useless, and the pacing is great. Heck, just the exiting out of the mailslot I've used as a DEMO for VR as people lose their minds at seeing the size of everything.
Going to have to do these as I've been away from ED for a long time. Last time I played was before odyssey

That tutorial is broken for me i chose auto launch .. and these pre flight checks come up on left and only a few i can hold to check off like ( Throttle up [W] Throttle Down {S] but roll, Landing gear, weapon deploy i cant cause im still parked on pad. Center top of screen says SELECT AUTO LAUNCH to begin well i did when he told me too and i am still parked :/
I think the training is good. I have completed 4 this one, landing in a station, landing on a planet, and driving the SRV. Could use one for landing on a Outpost. It can be a chore to find your pad because you don't approach from the same direction. I think training about Elite Dangerous rules would be nice. kind of saves you money. Might keep you from getting your ship blown up. And your wondering what you did. Great video Hawkes and I was thinking about doing 2 or 3. If your training you don't lose your ship when you fail. it's not costing you too learn. Fight Thargoid's if you want too spend money on ships.
How can I stabilize my crosshairs? I recently came back to the game only to find out my crosshairs refuse to hold still while floating in space, can’t fly a straight line if my life depended on it, I got mouse sensitivity all the way on low, and roll disabled from mouse movement too. Still very unstable..
I have a thumb mouse button bound to zero-ing mouse inputs when I play KB+M
But I recommend playing on a gamepad
Hawkes... you rock man. My daughter (who is 13) just finished the training scenario a day or two before you posted this and struggled with the combat portion. What is neat is the game bugged out right at the end and she had to do it all again. The second time through she beat the drone in less than a quarter of the time and the whole scenario in about the same. People who don't do these and knock the game for its difficulty are hilarious and shouldn't bother playing anyway.
I'm new to ED and I would've been absolutely lost without the training simulator, hands down
I want a training option that just puts you in a system in a sidewinder with one system in range to jump to, very basic, but enough to test all your controls, and make sure they're set right without having to load the game and risk something.
The scenarios are also great for when you need to get used to a new control scheme. I think the only thing missing is FA Off.

I finally picked up ELITE Commander Edition during steam summer sale.
When i started the game, it spawned me on some derelict facility mission on a planet. Did I do something wrong ?
Had the same thing happen to me and after getting onto the ship that comes to pick you up the mission just breaks, reloaded the mission and now there is actual dialogue on the way back to chamberlain's rest, still no clue why this is my starting point when i used to play Elite years ago but I guess that's what happens(at least in my case) when not playing for years and then coming back.
I haven't played ED since forever, I think I stopped when Odyssey came out and looked like it was just grindy pew pew and was going to get forced on everyone. Now I'm kind of tempted to have another go. Wonder if my account still works LOL
Could you consider making a video about money making method comparison ? As a semi-new player i found the Robigo is still the quickest way to grind credit, not sure did I do something wrong about exo biology or platinum laser mining.
By the way i did both of them after watching your videos.
People that complain about things like this are the same people that complain about "the grind" rather than just play the game, or complain about broken instances while sitting in them rather than jumping out to reset them (I know it should be fixed, but we all know how to sort it out ourselves).
The training mission are so good, I played through them all twice. Once on Xbox and controller, and again when they cloned me and I jumped ship to pc and HOSAS. I think the only thing missing is a F/A off tutorial.
I still use auto landing and take off on my T9. Gotten stuck on the toast rack too many times in that ship🤣
Years and years ago when I first started this game, one of my biggest problems was my X52 HOTAS bindings. Even though there were a few blueprints it was still very difficult to programmable all the various buttons. Now after 96k bounties it’s second nature.
I gave up in 2015, came back in 2019 when I found a setting file for my HOTAS and suddenly it clicked. I even managed to change a few things around.
I only did the on-foot one and the in-ship one that the game wants you to do at the beginning. I thought it was just the right amount to get me into the game. The rest has been fun to learn by trial and error.
Really you don't NEED the tutorials if you're willing to goof a bunch. I did that a few years back and the feeling of satisfaction once you learn to properly control your ship is awesome. But if you're not one for that the tutorials are honestly pretty great. I like them being in lore too.
I wish they’d use the checkpoints from 14:22 more often throughout the game. Just setting it up so races could be a bigger thing would be great
Nice to see that old school trolls still exist who will attack things they literally have no knowledge about.
Some of them can be done with FA OFF so they are a great place to practice messing about without affecting your save game. The Eagle combat scenario is what I use if I’ve had a break from the game and go a bit rusty. Nice video 👍🏽
This is great advice. Doing the newb course with FA OFF is an amazing tool! I'm just glad all the tutorials and simulations are all this quality. I can't imagine ever playing this game without doing them.
Ah man if only! The newb course is one of them that you can’t do with FA OFF!? It would literally be the best training tool and more people would be Jedi knight at it by now. It’s a shame they haven’t updated the tutorials with a FA OFF guide as I’m sure it would be popular
Dude this training area is perfect to have races at, what a waste.
Edit: flight assist most certainly off. Maybe like 2 to 3 seconds usable over each lap

The problem I found with the tortorial was it assumes you have all the key bindings memorized. I do have to say I still have not gotten passed the leaving the dock as of yet due to problems with the key binding set up . I also have to say I did down load it on Steam and like all the other games I have on there I am finding problems with the set up of the game . This is mt second time trying to figure out this game and th tortorial dose suck compared to other tortorials I have done over the years . Asumtion is the mother of all F..k up
This is excessively dismissive and minimizing to everyone who doesn't understand the entirety of the game based on the tutorials. From someone who's not "8" and able to understand basic flight controls without a guide, your trolling of "trolls" without anything helpful other than taunting people who are in the same boat as those as you refer to as "trolls" certainly will limit your viewers. Including me. Thanks for the "help". I don't understand combat. I understand how to change weapons, lock a target, fly in the most "basic" terms, but keeping a target in front of me? I love a huge paragraph by someone without context. These trolls went out of their way on multiple videos to talk trash until they got blocked from the channel. This wasnt a disagreement. I will do me bro, but with all the information so i don't write paragraphs on a topic I don't fully understand.
Wow I haven't played these. The last non-combat tutorials I played were before the noob zone existed. I think I started in February 2018.
Yeah the new simulations Fdev added after Odyssey launched are gold for new players.
Is it possible to experience pre-Odyssey simulations? I joined Elite Dangerous several months after Odyssey
it's a bit rough you keep saying "Elite Dangerous: Odyssey", as if Elite is unplayable without Odyssey. Which is sad for people who want to have spaceship combat and thus are never interested in "Odyssey"... especially since tutorial played in this video s actually for normal Elite Dangerous (vanilla/Horizons)

You know who couldn't hit the towers no matter how many times the best pilots in the world tried to hit them in the simulator... every single pilot that tried, quite literally impossible. 9 11.... no planes.

@@cmdrandreyuenari4150 runway is not only possible but happens every day every so many minutes right. Melting sky scrapers after not only 1 impossible shot but two impossible shots back to back that never happened and never will happen again is something else entirely. There were thousands of engineers and architects that spoke out against these impossibilities but y'all don't remember because you know ppl who killed innocent ppl in the middle east and now no one wants to talk about it. They did the same with Vietnam... a false flag to justify a war that was never justified.
