The new 2024 Best start is currently being filmed. All guides will be updated for Odyssey right after! This will be done from the perspective of a fresh save. I hope you enjoy the complete journey as it unfolds through multiple videos. I will pick the 5 contest winners soon so good luck!

For me, it was ObsidianAnt and MrMyu. Bought the game, then 100 hours in I realized it was also VR compatible. Spent over 7K hrs in VR. I was part of MrMyu's squadron, The Errant Knights. One of my fondest memories is travelling to the Maia system, and docking at Obsidian orbital, and hearing Ant's voice inside. Felt like seeing an old friend after a long journey.
The Elite Dangerous community are the most welcoming people I have ever met. Yourself included, Commander. o7

It is great that ships have always been added as part of regular game updates, but just out of mild curiosity, it would be interesting to have a poll to see if players would actually purchase new ships via ARX if that was an option.

I hope they introduce a piracy geared ship. I'm not a pirate but, some of my favourite interactions with players were piracy based. My favourite to this day was a noob pirate. I normally evade interdictions but, was distracted with one of your videos on my 2nd monitor and got caught. I had about 120 tons of LTD on my Python, with another 30 of limpets. The pirate asked for 60 tons of LTD and after some back and forth we agreed to 30 tons. I dropped 30 limpets and ran before they realized I pulled a fast one. I never saw them again but, to this day I LOL when I think of it 😂

I’m 72 and pretty much in the same boat. (I just engineered my Maverick suit to grade 5 with night vision, as well my Executioner and Tormentor. Now I’m pretty much invincible during a settlement raid!) I hop onto SC and MSFS now and then, but I always come back to Elite. I played the original on my Commodore 64 back in 1985, and bought ED 5 years or so ago and then let it sit on my hard drive for a couple of years for some reason. I too saw a UA-cam video and it reminded me that I had it sitting there untouched.
      The rest is history…

@@b1bmsgt love the post. Played the original on an Amstrad 128. I'm 51 years old. Haven't played ED in a few years now. To me it's like the devs didn't really feel the love for what they were making. Maybe it's changed or maybe i just misread the situation. Never did get the planet exploration DLCs. After viewing this vid, i might down load it again.

We need a large hauling ship. 1000 capacity minimum

I fully agree with this. Something that is bigger than the cutter. Something so massive it can complete an ore delivery mission in one trip.

The problem is that two of the biggest ships in the game only hold 700t (ish). Making either of those hold more will make them bigger and they wont fit on the large pad any more. They could do something to increase the cargo capacity on some of the other ships like adding cargo panier racks to the T-6 and T-7. Maybe adding special cargo module slots which either only hold racks similar to the current military slots or maybe make them double the capacity of a rack used in the slot or something. I think either would be cool but I don't know how they'd explain the ships not getting bigger. Though I suppose its not a game requirement but rather a rule from Braben about realistic ship sizes. This rule has been broken twice before when they increased the T-7 and T-9 making both able to haul around 50% more with no external changes.

    • @Neo-vz8nh
      @Neo-vz8nh 8 місяців тому +3

Panther clipper, but they stated that the new ship will be variants of existing ones. Well maybe a Type 11.
It would be really cool if they could serve as a moving fortress, with fort shield (an extended shield where smaller ships can go under it), and repair abilities for smaller ships.
Only problem with this, as it would make the Type 9 obsolete.

    • @Kissamiess
      @Kissamiess 8 місяців тому

Yes and also a small hauling ship for those small pad Odyssey settlements. Currently the best one for the task is Dolphin if you don't have access to Cobra Mk.IV. Doesn't seem right. Might also add a dedicated hauler for medium pads while we are at it. The best ship currently is Python, but it's multipurpose. A type 7 variant that was a little lower and had little more cargo space thatn Python would fit the bill.

Best memory for me: Unlocking Farseer when I first started, I kept jumping away from the bubble blindly. Eventually I spotted a crash sight wayyyyy outside the bubble. So my unengineered DBX and I landed! I got into my srv to investigate. A few mins later as I was checking out the site a large growl filled my headset that sent chills down my spine. Looking around in orbit cam I came face to face with my first thargoid. At the time I didn't even know they existed. That encounter was the door to years of antixeno content I've participated in!!😂 I will never forget that moment.

I know your point but it's undercut by "Ive played this game for a decade on 3 generations of consoles... the grind isnt THAT bad" lol.
This game is single player EVE levels of systems, it's a ton of work experimentation and learning that is NOT the cup of tea for most people. I am a Solution Architect for a national Medtech Company and man after dealing with compliance, Engineering for Biz dev, managing projects and dissecting PRs with stupid tiny mistakes all day the last thing I want to do is sit at home and open more spreadsheets lol (and then they still havent enabled VR in odyssey) you are welcome to enjoy what you enjoy but I can see the frustration for people who invest 60 hours and get essentially nowhere.

I took a friend who was brand new to the game and we both grinded all engineering mats, made 8 billion doing trade bought fleet carriers together the whole nine yards. He was a brand new player. Bless his bitty little heart trying to keep up but he did it learning the entire time. The grind isn't hard when you know how to do it. The amount of accomplishment we both felt at the end of me shooting footage was unreal.

Me too. Nothing since has ever quite lived up to that first Elite community experience, waiting for the cone rise on the Planet of Death, everyone relaxing and winding down after the harrowing landing, messing about in our SRV's, drawing silly patterns with our tracks, seeing how many ships could be jumped in a row, people naturally parking their small and medium ships in front, with large ships behind, so everyone had a glorious view, then saying fond farewells to new friends as we departed, for the nail biting escape of the planet.
      Magnificent, truly magnificent.

What would really save Elite would be the ability to build our own systems. It's cool to jet around the bubble and see all of the ports, stations, and fleet carriers in the systems we visit, but how amazing would it be to discover a planetary system for the first time, and flag it for colonization. I'm talking about registering your new system, naming it, picking from a list of stations/planetary bases/production facilities and so on, and then transporting supplies and materials to the system to build everything.
There is little to do in the galaxy once you leave the areas where humanity is clustered other than explore endlessly, you might find a place to do some amazing mining but then have to travel for literal irl days to get to the nearest location to sell it all.
Even if it isn't to that extreme, just being able to put a flag down on a world that can support life and allow you to make that your' "Home world" would be amazing.
As far as the War with the Thargoids goes, I'm just now buying the game and am extremely late to the party. When I bought the game the first titan fell, and already they have destroyed two more in the weeks to follow. I'm still dying to ring pirates while bounty hunting for a few million credits let alone seeing my very first Thargoid. I can see what they were trying to go for, but the news I have been following about the war is very predictable, first couple contacts, our standard weapons work against them, then they don't, we research new weapons that work, then they don't, we researched even newer weapons that worked, they still work but newer versions of Thargoid warships keep appearing that take considerably more to kill, people started optimizing how to kill these new forms, now we have titans that took forever to kill the first one, now they are dropping like flies. Anyone that would have actually taken a step back would have realized that the devs would have never actually let the Thargoids genially wipe out humanity by invading deep into the bubble. If they did then Elite would truly die as there wouldn't be anywhere for the players to go to rearm, repair, or refuel. They would have to make it so that those that have fleet carriers wouldn't be able to lose them as they would be the last strongholds of humanity, and nobody would be able to buy new ones due to the fall of human controlled space. At the rate things are going, I as a new player, will never get the fight a Thargoid. And if I do, it will be just minor skirmishes with the last remnants of their race much like the bounty hunting I currently am doing in planetary rings.
I'm just enjoying the ability to just system to system and use scanners to fully map each system, I haven't even begun making my way to any engineering locations yet and am focusing on getting the hang of mining and transporting goods. With every ship in the game focused into four basic roles (mining, cargo, fighting, and exploration) it is really hard to build a new ship that can fall under the banner of "exiting" when it doesn't add anything new to the game. It will still be called the "new anaconda", "new corvette", or "new asp". There are ships that fill these roles extremely well already, and then there are others that everyone agrees could and should be removed from the game completely. I'm more concerned by the fact that I can make millions from my friend protecting me from pirates while I mine in my cargo miner, by he doesn't get a cut of the resources when I sell them.

@HawkesGaming I started the game on Xbox following your videos, in particular your ship review vid and best start, which taught me core mining and gave me ship acquisition goals when I was early game. Best memory was a joint squadron massive AX hunting event where we had a dozen commanders in the same instance fighting Hydras and Madusa interceptors (pre Thargoid invasion). Overall though the game has provided me personally with a great community and new friends that have become great friends to share in this ultimate space sandbox, no doubt disappointed as an Xbox born player and squadron, the game experience was strong enough to keep many of us together and also strong enough to help us transition to the PC Elite and Odyssey community. Thanks Hawke for the introduction to a beautiful game. Your enthusiasm made me a fan and I still am years later. 07

I don't think we need new ships at all. I think we need instancing problems fixed when in a team on a Carrier or at the Thargoid Star-map. Landing suspension on ships would be nice. Ship interiors (as promised). Damage modelling like on the Anaconda on all ships. Improved Jump Range tech so it doesn't take hours to go and look at some of the pretties the Explorers discover in person. Enhanced acceleration and deceleration in super cruise so it doesn't' take an hour to go to Hutton Orbital. New ships are way down my list of priorities for fixing this game. I am pleased to hear that those annoying Thargoids might be kicked out of the bubble though.

I missed the Kickstarter but I bought the deluxe when it went live. I loved the game and I enjoyed multiplayer. Pvp, mission running, mining, it was all fun with friends. Then they added the engineer update and not only did it require you to fly crazy distances to get to the engineers but after hours of grinding to get super rare materials I got hardly anything. I was full time college at the time so I couldn't spend the time to get all my modules maxed out. Instantly my ships I spent so long grinding rep and credits for was useless in multiplayer. It was no longer a space sim, it was a grind fest to get the best enchantments on your modules with space magic. Stopped playing and never looked back. Crazy to see an ED video on my feed.

I'm not entirely certain I could pick just a single favorite adventure within Elite. I had my first solo Thargoid Interceptor kill, my first time using the Dropship to carpet bomb a surface settlement before putting boots on the ground to finish the raid, exploring distant nebulae, or my first time successfully following one of your guides for trading (finding expansion+bust is still such a pain) all within 2023.
As someone that got into the game in 2019, but didn't really get active until just a couple months before Salvation pushed us into the current war, I've gotten pretty used to the existing lineup of ships being the extent of what we get. Needless to say though, I am beyond excited to see some new ones being added. It'll definitely give some fresh life to my own gameplay loops, and that is something I've been looking for since mid 2023.

I was end game stage - Fleet Carrier, all ships, billions, all engineers, all military ranks, PP modules....but I was on xbox. I did the cross over to PC before they offered the service, back when the just cashed up the in game value and made that your starting credits. Quite funny starting in a sidewinder... exiting the starter system and heading to the closest FC system to buy a carrier. Then jump to I Sola Prospect to buy every ship not locked behind the navy ranks. Made it through several engineer unlocks but wasn't enjoying it at all. Moved onto Star Citizen and haven't been back for a look since. I still on occasion watch updates on it but don't feel any motivation to jump back into it. Still have fond memories of the great atmospheric firsts in the game - like Thargoid interdictions/ground bases or Guardians bases. Great atmosphere and sound effects there, really enjoyed those.... and then they wrecked that with MAT grind loops lol. Do they still have a list of MATs that serve no purpose in game?

I think that new ships at least states that the game is not dead. It's still a good bang for the buck and could probably without that much effort reclaim the spot of being the preferred entry game for new star simmers.
I hope that they will address the concerns around Odyssey and make the power play a more tangible presence that you can relate to and maneuver in.
Furthermore, that the common grinding tasks will see new gameplay elements and quality of life enhancements. Exobiology, exploration, passenger, piracy, policing, bounty hunting, cargo trucking all are rewarding activities.

Like if I just discovered Elite Dangerous today I would buy the base game and all the current DLC's just like I did before. The value you get by being able to fly all those different ships is well worth every single penny. The new player experience for Elite right now is actually quite good. I recently started over myself with a fresh save.

My best memory is not a single memory but a conglomeration. Watching a video of yours for the first time in How To Have The Best Start many years ago, jumping into my Sidey to mine LTDs 70+LY or so away and jumping 1LY at a time as I didn't know about the setting to jump at max distance only to forget collection limpets: 70+ jumps back. Visiting the Conda crash site. Experiencing my first Goid hyperdiction. Busting rocks at the DBX map before the Painite nerf to FINALLY afford an FC. Watching Void Opal rocks explode for the first time... AHHHH. Discovering my first Guardian site. Fitting out Glorious to do 6/hr Robigo Runs. Zooming around Davs Hope. Falling into a star waiting for the enviable while I overheat. And of course, listening to CMDR Jameson's logs at the Cobra crash site and actually having a lump in my throat. How could they do that to him? All those... moments will be lost like... tears in the rain if I ever leave for good. Time... to fly.

There have been some fumbles the last few years, but this announcement shows that Fdev isn't done with this game and at least part of that team still cares for it. At least 4 new ships, a rework of one of the more interesting (in concept, not practice) mechanics of the game and a continuation of this new narrative structure they started is incredible for the game. This news is great and I couldn't be happier. If they can now show they listen to the players and add some other long requested features and changes (ship interiors, reworking other mechanics) then the future is bright.

Best memory for me was actually yesterday! After a bunch of bounty hunting I get out of the asteroid belt with a broken canopy, so oxygen was rapidly diminishing. I feel super tense to get back to the orbital station in time because I have millions of space bucks on bounty vouchers to lose, let alone my pimped out Type 10... So, with a few minutes of oxygen left, I approach the station in supercruise....and....get interdicted! Not now! Adrenaline rush increases! Will I try avoiding? Will I submit and kill him? Will I submit and flee? I decide for the last option and get back in to supercruise. But by now I have overshot the station of course. So, with some maneuvering and 1 minute to go I exit out of supercruise at the station, request docking and throttle down for auto dock (that Type 10 is tricky to get through the mailslot). Realizing that I only have 30 seconds left, I get into a medium panic. My breathing both in game and irl becomes more like choking. Not gonna make it! The autopilot lines me up to the mailslot slower than I ever thought possible! Desperately I boost into the docking area with 7 seconds to go! Crap.. won't make it...still need to land! But then: salvation! What a sigh of relief realizing the docking area is pressurized and has air! Landing not needed. What a rush! What a game :)

My favourite experience in Elite Dangerous has been being part of an amazing squadron where I made some great friends.
At some point we were attacked in our space by a rival squadron and to gain the upper hand I managed to infiltrate our enemy and share intelligence to help us anticipate their moves and defeat them in space and on the ground.
It was so exciting to be able to recreate all that with friends, enemies and in space with our favourite ships. I played in VR and I thought that I could never get bored of the game.
Eventually I moved on to try other games, but Elite Dangerous still holds a special place in my space heart. And I owe it to your videos if I managed to get into the game and have great experiences. You have always been my go to for anything Elite and SC, keep em coming mate!

Best adventure for me was Raw Material gathering out at HIP 36601. I love ED because of the VR experience with my HOTAS setup. I had been to several sites, on several planets shooting the crystalline formations off the tall rocks. Some of the sites were very poor due to rough terrain and sparse materials. Then I found an area where the materials were down in a deep canyon, and I landed next to it planning to drive my SRV down to investigate. It turned out to be a looooong FALL down to the bottom and not a drive at all. The materials were plentiful and after harvesting all I could, I recalled my ship. But it would not land down in the canyon. Time after time it landed above on the rim. I know, I probably could have suicide'd my way out of it, but rather I chose to make a go at hill climbing a few thousand feet, switching back and forth, using free cam to find lateral routes. When I finally crested the top, probably a hour later, and saw my beloved DBX 'Saraph' there waiting for me, the sense of joy and accomplishment was so real it beyond just a game. And a really bizarre phenomenon is due to the immersion of VR, when I think back in my memory, (this was pre-Odyssey) it's almost as if I was really there, on a strange planet, in a distant solar system fighting for survival in my SRV.

I've said this before and I'm not going to write another essay this time. I sincerely and desperately hope this is the start of Elite not only surviving, but thriving! I've tried the "competition" time and time again, but I've found myself coming back to Elite: Dangerous again this week.
I have a list of things to try that I never have before, and that is not even including the new update content. Even though I'm not a hardcore player that has done or earned everything in the game, I still want to know that I am playing a game with a promising future ahead of it.
I am rooting for the devs to prioritize Elite this year. I truly believe that a few small steps in the right direction will have a big impact on not only veteran players either returning or finding new interest in the game, but also an influx of new players looking to scratch "that" itch that only Elite has been able to provide for myself.
edit: forgot to mention you exploration videos are what got me into the game to start with. Thanks for that!

Having started playing Elite with a 5.4 floppy disc, to what the game has evolved into is magnificent. It is today such a wonderous platform which in my view is under utilised. Exotic weaponry and the scope for many many more storylines, given the vastness and scope it remains conspicuously untapped. Came back to the game purely by chance watching a Distant Worlds episode. It remains my hope that such a beloved game can reach it's higher potential and the continuation of ships, substantive storylines to engage and stretch cmdrs' is the right way to go. Why have thee most beautiful universe with (respectfully) very little 'going on' is a wasted opportunity. More ships, (with movement inside) more challenges that can galvanise collaborations, Exploration given more invested interest etc, etc. We have a community that I learn from and have progressed in the game watching such vids'. Mr Hawkes, i salute you Sir and all our cmdrs. Keep truckin and see you in the black. o7 🙂

Mastering landing my ship in 1st person gave me the feeling that I had finally become a pilot and could now really play the game with confidence so was the best moment in my Elite career.
But don’t consider me for the skins because I don’t play anymore.
Last time I played was on Xbox 1 X, it was so beautiful but would be better now with VRR on XSX or PS5 but I still can’t afford or at least justify the cost of a gaming PC and right when I was about to buy a HOTAS, Odyssey came and made me feel surprisingly left out (I didn’t think I’d be so childish about it) and when they said consoles players can go take a long walk on a short pier it kinda took all the wind out of my sails and I lost the feeling of being inside a universe that was alive and supported.
But it was such a magnificent game.
I have mind blowing sessions on No Man’s Sky in PSVR2 to take its place now, it’s epic and thrilling but I’d prefer a PSVR2 version of Elite for that extra realism and simulation depth.
But it’s a sad goodbye to Elite from me at least until I get a 4090 and can try Odyssey. 😢

I just wish they'd fix the crappy moon/planet surface stuff. It's boring and looks horrible in VR (the only way I play). So much to look forward to this year! Favourite moment though? Sooo may to choose from! Starting with my first tentative steps out of the Bubble in 2018 alone in my DBX to visit the Formidine Rift and feeling very isolated and awestruck with the beauty of it all, to being utterly terrified when I was hyperdicted by a Thargoid Interceptor for the very first time whilst hauling cargo down to the Pleiades.
Jumping into Beagle Point for the first time as part of the Distant Worlds 2 Expedition was really emotional. Passing 'The Drill' to become a Fuel Rat and successfully undertaking my first rescue, as well as taking paying passengers to visit Sag A* in a 44ly Orca back in 2019. Countless adventures with friends across the galaxy on various trips to see some amazing sights, and more recently becoming a Buckyball Racer and hosting my own race last year was amazing, visiting the Titan and the Spire sites.... and VR!! Oh wow, what an absolute game changer!
Probably my favourite moment though, I took a DBX down to Barnard's Loop and the Horsehead Nebulae recently, just to enjoy the area and I found a planet with great views of them. I settled down in a shadowy valley, with the Nebulae in front of me and switched off the HUD. I was in VR and I just sat there, my ship silent, staring out of the canopy at the stunning vista slowly creeping across the sky in front of me, the icy surface quietly groaning and cracking in the background. Even after over 5500hrs in this game it still has the power to overwhelm me and give me a tiny taste of what a possible future may be like to fly among the stars and visit other worlds.

Hawkes, you bring some great points in the vid. I played a lot of ED on my Xbox One as this is where I discovered the game and I was mainly a console gamer at the time. I did a lot in the game which made me feel like I was a space explorer, like I lived in that world. I spent a lot of real money on buying ship kits and ship paints to make my ships look even more glorious. I even did a lot of mining grinding to get my own Carrier. And then Odyssey came out and that brought a lot of excitement until FDev decided not to bring Odyssey to consoles. It fell like a punch to the gut and this is what killed ED for me. I fell burnt out by that point knowing nothing new was coming to consoles. I switched to PC gaming and moved on to another game to have that space gameplay itch scratched (we all know what that game is 😉) and never looked back. I still have a lot of fond memories of my time with ED and will never regret it. I wish FDev all the success if they can turn it around.

    #Favorite Elite adventure…
Still new to the game and having recently swapped to PC, armed with Hawkes mining videos I scraped and blasted painite in Spocs 103 till I managed to get enough cheddar for the Glorious Anaconda! And it was then that I decided to try my hand at surface SRV mining.
It was dark, didn’t know how to use the SRV instruments, and I was driving through trouble terrain and I soon realized I was hopelessly lost and could no longer see my ship on the scanner. And then it occurred to me that I was also almost out of SRV fuel.
Here is what I did NOT know…. I had no idea that if I died, I would port back to ship. I had no idea that the SRV could be repaired on ship. I had no idea you could make fuel in the SRV. I had no idea that you could recall your ship. Legit, the panic was real. I figured I was toast and I would be marooned on this random rock. So I started to go through all the SRV systems one by one and it was here I learned about making fuel… but I didn’t have material. SRV is it out of gas now and I’m at the bottom of a crater. Then I go through the coms panel last and come across “recall ship”. Click it and hear the sweet glorious turbine engines of the Conda fire up and I catch its blazing motors and lights hopping up into the air and glide over to my location and land about 100 yards away. I exit the SRV and sprint straight to the ship running strong trying to figure out how to board before I melted in the planets ambient heat because I figured if I died, my ship would be toast and I did NOT have the rebuy in credits for this beast. I finally manage to get aboard and the relief was real. Before this encounter… my feelings on the Anaconda had been one of buyers remorse and a major gut check. But watching it come over the horizon on auto pilot to pull my bacon out of the fire… I fell in love with it right then and there and I have had and engineered the same Anaconda for years now.
It’s also what I do with all of my ships now too. Land on a World, drive away, mine till the bullets run out and then call them down for resupply with NV turned off. The fire, lights, engine whine… that’s when you will know how a ship really makes you feel.

New ships would solve MANY issues the game has. Hell, if they'd start adding bigger flyable ships too then it'd be even better. They could add a secondary dock near currently existing stations that is specifically meant for large ships, like the non-rotating 'drydocks' we see Federation and Imperial battleships docked at for repairs. Could even possibly get our own fuel/ammo delivery service, IE you run low on ammo and fuel, so you pay a service to get ammo and fuel delivered to you with say a 15 minute time limit kinda like carrier jumping.
Now the ships wouldn't have to be as big as carriers or bigger, but something close to the size of a Farragut would be cool. Obviously they'd be limited from doing some activities and flying to some places like asteroid fields and maybe planet surfaces.

I'm glad to see they are investing money into the game still. Lots of companies are cutting jobs right now, including FDev. So, if you like the new ships and content they are trying to put out, be sure to spend a little coin on them and show FDev the efforts are worth it and to keep them coming. It may be just a game to us, but it is a business and livelihood to them (and the shareholders).

New ships are my number one thing. Hell yes! 🎉

I'm most excited for ships that fill roles that aren't already taken. I feel like if it can't surpass a meta in some way, you risk the community saying that your ship sucks.
For me, I want to see ships that encourage more play in teams for what Odyssey has to offer. I'd love to see a SMALL 4-seater ship for friends that want to do exobiology together, or a true APC/dropship that isn't a sluggish Crusader or clumsy large ship. Would also love to see a 2 player small ship that can fit EPTs that isn't an Adder, like a 2-seat Courier (maybe the Mamba-lite will be this, should rumors be true). Granted, it seems like the new ships are going to be new versions of existing ships, but I'm still excited to see what they choose and what directions they take them in.
The Python mkII looks smaller than the original, don't you think? A fast, armed cargo-runner? Something that has all the advantages of a Imp.Clipper, but can land or medium pads?

New planets with atmospheres, interactive gas giants, actually dangerous black holes and other space phenomena maybe. Cut the mind numbing grind and add new travel options, maybe. Repurposed ships (Python Mk2?) not so much...

To revive this game to a whole new level Fdev needs to offer players to build space stations in multiplayer for us old players who have soo much money. New ships will only talk a vet player soo far.

The Python MkII news has brought me back after a 2 year hiatus and I've been killing the fux outta thargoids building cash for these new ships. I hope they aren't a disappointment. I want to see a new mechanic like stealth that behaves like cold or silent running. If these ships are good, I'll buy a fleet carrier again.
My favorite player adventure was all of the fun I've had with a few coworkers mowing NPC pirates down in HAZREZ areas and making millions back when Horizons first came out. Nowadays, those guys have moved on to other games (I hope to bring them back when the new ships come out), but lately I've been having an absolute blast joining up with a few streamers like CMDR MJReese_ and Cmdr_EmulatedPenguin killing thargoids with them on their streams. It is huge fun and I recommend that everyone at least load up and try AX hunting at least once in open with other CMDR's there to have your back. It's very "enriching" as well ;-)

I hope they do some changes to allow casual players such as me to explore further without the need investing in and maintaining a fleet carrier. They gave us the percentage of the galaxy explored, which was ridiculously not much, but now they're working on the power play. I feel stuck in the bubble. I still want to see the interior of my ship(s) like carrier owners, though. I'd seem fair. Maybe these new ships would be a response to all that concerns of mine. I do want to return to this game.

With the 4 new ships, I think what we will see is 4 ships that will do one of the pillars of game play very well and not much else. We already know the python mk2 is a combat beast. Perhaps the next three will be exploration, trading, and what not.
