Very late to the SE party; tried off & on for years, but never stuck. This guide is PERFECT for an (old) new player like me. Can't wait for part two! THANKS!!
Longtime fan of the channel and your best start guides. Glad you are enjoying space engineers now. Having put 1,700+ into the game Here are some of the top improvements I think would help make for an even better start: 1. You should move away from the hand drill as quickly as possible. You made a big rotating array of large grid drills at the end of the video but I'm sure that took a ridiculous amount of off screen hand drilling to build. Building smaller drilling setups earlier would have saved a lot of time. I would prioritize that over your big industrial complex. 2. Use the detector block better. You discovered gold and silver were side by side, which they typically are, late in the video because of the detector on the ship you bought. The pod comes with a detector you could have been using to find deposits earlier. One thing to keep in mind is detector blocks have a range you can set so you should tell players to crank that all the way up for prospecting. Also the large grid detector has a much bigger range. 3. More use of the event controller block. You rightly pointed out players should remember to toggle their thrusters and battery charging when docking and undocking. With the event controller triggering on the connector you can have your ship automatically do all that stuff and never worry about dropping to the ground. 4. Better use of the upgrade modules. The assemblers can have 4 speed modules but your arrangement only allowed for 2. Also for the refineries I would go all yield once you have the gold for super conductors. If you want to process faster just make more refineries.
1&2 same as you for the big drill but less usefull when you have a miner (the goal is the TT-420 freighter) , so a little early drill is good 3 add a camera to help docking (or AI block) 4 i use 3 large cargo dedicated to refinery/assembler/components with sorter between them for easy inventory management. (4 yields for refineries and 4 speed for assembler is a good combo)
Awesome video, as an SE veteran (and addict) this is very well-made. However, I'd like to point out that this guide while very useful in singleplayer might not be the best for a multiplayer situation on something like the official servers where raiding indiscriminately is allowed. There it is more advantageous to start in space directly in order to stay hidden until you have the means to build a safezone. For fun playthroughs with friends, solo or on friendly servers this guide is excellent though. And it offers a VERY good introduction into many of the sometimes a bit more confusing aspects of space engineering.
nice beginner guide m8 a little pro tip for everyone ( the one about converting pod into mining ship as already been covered but its a must to speed up dramaticly as some pointed out .. and its just darn fun haha ) first real tip is ---- use the gps command by pressing enter then type /gps ( name of location ex: iron deposit ) saves a good amount of point and click ... for pure vanilla players ( NO DLC ) its a good tip to find the builder neutral npc ( might take a few respawns to get the right datapad and build assembler + refinery with 1 power module + 3 speed modules to start refining faster ( quantity of the yield module at the start is irrelevant since you will make a buttload of ore trips no problem ) and priority tip after you start building more than one grid parked on each other ... do no use P you will disconnect all grids from each other and it can create err ... problems but hey youre an engineer its fun having problems haha :D enjoy the game with the new update to come advice to everyone take your time to learn/build/perfect/practice ... youll need it :) cheers all hope tips helps some
i usually put a drill on the pod ASAP and that makes the early grind much faster. the conveyor that bypasses the sorter negates it. your tiny starting base really didn't need sorters IMO. i like to load up on oxygen and hydrogen bottles and then suit launch to space and see if i can find platinum first thing. if i can find platinum quickly i get my tools upgraded super easy. i liked your use of the missions to build cash. i like to do something similar but these can be done earlier than what i usually do. good idea. my favorite planetary starter task is to get the blueprint from the workshop called something like 9 dirlls miner and use a projector to build that. it's a fantastic plunge miner with enough thrust to get to space.
Glad to see you playing my absolutely favorite space game. There's always a better design... it never lets me go. Also.. so many mod choices. Strongly suggest you grab Build Vision...
Is there a more complete list of the 2nd abbreviations? I have reset my world like 5 times and have yet to get any of the ones listed in your document.
I recommend HIGHLY for new players to go grab the "Resource Nodes" and "Pipelines" mods. Resources nodes adds static drills that mine resource's infinitely which is really nice for new players to be able to build as much as they want. And pipelines save a TON of time and resources to transport goods over long distances.
Hey, Hawke. Which mods should I add to my gameplay? I was having a hard time with PS4 Controller, so I ordered a mouse and keyboard. Haven't actually made any progress, so I'm starting brand new this weekend.
How do you automatically switch to controlling the ship without having to go to the Remote Control and select Control? Every time I get in my ship i have to do that in order to be able to fly it.
I only have a few hours but i totally disagree with the thought process of building a walkable mineshaft "incase" you run out of hydrogen. just build it verticle, and if you do run out of jetpack fuel, THEN you build a walkable mineshaft, Upwards which is easier. The amount of time you save with the verticle mine shaft is like.... 15 seconds per trip probably?
I was thinking 🤔 would there be a video of a beginners guide to space engineers, not made by someone who has one of the most boring and annoying voices of all time ? Enter this dude, I instantly recognized his voice from the No mans sky tutorials 😊 Now I am happy and in for a treat, because I am going to be a SPACE ENGINEER (hopefully I will enjoy it 😀 ) BTW thanks for making this , I truly appreciate it
Auto drill certainly doesn’t work the event controller isn’t doing anything and I set the piston to minimum lowering speed and it still buries too fast
Does this work on ps5? Im up to part where i have thrusted on and cant lift off. I have keyboard plugged in so im able to follow 95% of your instructions. My thrusters are spinning but i dont lift off. Am i too heavy?
This is the least informed comment I've read in a long time. Space Engineers is better now than ever before, and each update actually adds new functionality and dimensions to the game. It's well worth the price and provides an almost endless amount of replayability.

Agree hand drilling is PAINFUL. Get a drill on your base ASAP.
Just came here to say thanks for making one of the best Space Engineers tutorials I've ever watched

1 of my all time favorite space games .. Open sandbox endless possibilities.. Building something that works well is great
Hope you are doing all right man love your guides

Just bought the game
This is begginner friendly? omg what i got myself into
well i wil try to follow you
So I put first thruster on and the dang thing floated off and nosed into a ditch. Thank God for backup saves
This is a great guide. The 420 is great, it doesn't have a jump drive like you mentioned, but its still a solid choice to get to space.
if you go to block tools and drag your drill to hotbar from there you can use the drill like the character drill
edit: this is for the mining ship
Hurry up! Make Part two already. Please.
Extremely good and helpful!! first time seeing your content, think I broke the rewind button... I'm old you go wayyy to fast for me 😂
Glad to see you playing my absolutely favorite space game. There's always a better design... it never lets me go. Also.. so many mod choices. Strongly suggest you grab Build Vision...
Hawkes on space engineers?, No offence but did you smoke something good? XD Holy shit didn't expect this

What timing! I just bought that on the first
Welcome to the fun.
So i tried to follow, but its literally not possible. You cannot fly a vehicle in the passenger seat that is in the drop pod unfortunately
Hey, Hawke. Which mods should I add to my gameplay? I was having a hard time with PS4 Controller, so I ordered a mouse and keyboard. Haven't actually made any progress, so I'm starting brand new this weekend.
Isy's inventory management script will change your life...
Really good - gotcha a new sub.

hello, are you certain that the TT-420 freighher has a jump drive?
the B-60 bulk as one did you mistook?
Legit like 30 games in and I can not get the spcg GPS to spawn

I am so lost with new No Men's Sky update. Any plans?
Followed the video to the T until I placed the Large D and it flipped my pod because the large D spawns turned on. What the f?

Turned off the drop pod and now i can’t turn it on and it’s only showing emotes in the g menu what is going ?
You cannot use the toolbar config in a passenger seat. It doesnt work like shown in the video
Auto drill certainly doesn’t work the event controller isn’t doing anything and I set the piston to minimum lowering speed and it still buries too fast
Youre obviously doing something wrong.
Does this work on ps5? Im up to part where i have thrusted on and cant lift off. I have keyboard plugged in so im able to follow 95% of your instructions. My thrusters are spinning but i dont lift off. Am i too heavy?
make sure to release the parking break the first time you lift off.
@@HawkesGamingyea. I tried that. No dice. Im playing on official servers if that makes a difference.
Ain't no way you're playing this. I just finished nms with you.
Ive spawned over 50 times I keep getting DW and CO
Almost one year since your no man's sky ultimate start guide. Are you going to update for worlds part 1?
Yes
@@HawkesGaming you're the man :)
The best way to start is to never give Keen money in the first place. They're milking a dead, festering, bloated cow at this point.
This is the least informed comment I've read in a long time.

Someone call the wambulance
so if you don't have a ship selling station on your planet, you're fked?
Great game for sinking hundreds of hours for useless progress (talking about sp)
ur skipping too much when ur making the drill i cant make heads and tails of it XD
Bit quiet right now…no exploits to milk? Such a shame
when nms guide 2024 :P ?
