    QUESTIONS TO ASK FIRST
Has the Power Steering Fluid ever been changed....?
    If so how long ago....?
What is the colour of the Power Steering Fluid....?
Think I would be inclined to check the condition and level of the Power Steering Fluid first.....especially when there is no indication of a fluid leak from the seals themselves....
The clue here is that reference was made to the noise coming from the Power Steering first thing in the morning.
The fluid would be cold first thing and anything in suspension in the fluid, (sediment or metal), is likely to make more noise and potentially cause more damage when it first moves around the Power Steering mechanism upon starting the engine and moving the steering.
Obviously checking the level is easy.....but the colour of the fluid is the real thing to check.
It should be red and not a very burnt dark red / brown colour.
The fluid can be renewed using a kitchen 'Turkey Baster' or something similar..
Take out an amount of old fluid and replace with the same quantity of new fluid. Then run the engine and turn the steering to full left lock and then full right hand lock a couple of times. This will expel any air in the fluid and steering mechanism.
Take the car for a short drive and then repeat the 'Turkey Baster' fluid change again. Once you have done this a couple of times you will have more or less changed the Power Steering Fluid completely.
    WORD OF WARNING:
ONLY USE HONDA POWER STEERING FLUID IN A HONDA......AND DON'T USE ANY POWER STEERING FLUID FIX-IT TYPE ADDITIVES.
Honda Power Steering Mechanisms / Steering Racks are finely engineered systems.
It really is a case of ONLY using Honda Power Steering Fluid in a Honda.....!
Whilst it is not always necessary, (perhaps because of low mileage / usage), to change the Power Steering Fluid that often, it makes sense to think about doing it.
I change mine once a year...whatever the mileage...
Think I paid about £30 or maybe even £40 for enough fluid......
If you think about the cost spread over the year it is not much...
Fluid is cheaper than a replacement Steering Rack Mechanism.....!

Honda power steering fluid is clear! You need to flush the PS out! Only use Honda Genuine Power Steering Fluid.

Hello Danny and thank you for the video. I replaced the steering pump for a 2011 honda civic and i did not replace the seal. there is a whinning noise at a low speed. Do you think, if i replace the seal from the hose that connects to the pump will fix the noise?

Did you try bleeding the power steering pump for any air in the system after you installed it ? Check this video ua-cam.com/video/AtM9aQCS4-I/v-deo.html
