- Here we go a podcast about the first pre-party of the season in Madrid, Eurovision Pre Party ES 2024! I will get to some songs after separately more complex with a proper studio cut and sound, this is all based on wiwibloggs one camera shot and club sound from whatever they grab it from. So all the same conditions and few notes to everyone! Enjoy

Eurovision is my passion. Eurovision was my work and I am still gladly part of the professional community of this project. I started at Eurovision 2016 as Czech Head of Delegation. Such a Eurovision story! Form Eurovision in Sweden I went to antoher ESC experience. Kiiv 2017 Eurovision. This was my first and last failiur. Sometimes you need to learn trough losing even it is not plasant. We ended up 13 in the semifinal, second best score of Eurovision Czechia back then. But after this we established ESCZ national selection format. It was mostly held online. Because of this we found Mikolas Josef who went 6th at Eurovision 2018 in Portugal. Than 11th with Lake Malawi, at Eurovision 2019 in Tel Aviv, Israel.
Eurovision story is crazy. After finding all candidates and songs (-1) for ESCZ 2020 I resigned and left the television for working freelance.
Not to stop being part of Eurovision, I created this channel as I have an urge not to do just Eurovision Reactions from a different perspective. But also to do national selection reactions, watch others how they do their craft and also give a different approach for Eurovision fans.
I am very glad was part of many eurovision juries. Mostly in national selection and since 2017 I was in MGP Norway, Eurovision Malta, UMK national selection Finland. Juror in Melodifestivalen 2016. Biggest national selection. Also helped Eurovision Ireland, Eurovision Estonia, Eurovision Azerbaijan and many others.

You lost me at the "OK vocals, singing OK" for Austria. Do you really think that? To me she was off key all the time, she didn't hit one single note, she didn't sing everything and was relaying on the backing track, she was out of breath, pitchy, the only high note was horrible ...

@@JanBors OK, I see. I didn't watch the Wiwiblogs one but the one at Eurovision Spain. Much better quality but they're quite slow in uploading the vids.
It's nice that Wiwiblogs films everything and puts it online so quickly but unfortunately, they are of poor quality which often gives a wrong first impression. Mostly in disadvantage of the performance and sometimes in their advantage, like for Austria. Glad that you can confirm because I was really worried about my musical hearing. ;)
Other than that, I enjoyed your analysis!
Just want to point out (not to say anything positive or negative about the song) but Kaleen was one of the artists who experienced inner ear issues.

Croatia is doing well. Baby Lasagna is definitely improving and by Malmo he will do well. He is really enjoying the crowd - as an introvert I can tell you that's also hard to do! The chanting from the crowd is enough for it to be top 2 in the televote. This was probably his fourth time performing the song.
I heard Mustii likes David Bowie and now I can’t help but get Bowie vibes from him.

Preparty in Madrid was amazing! Also, everything happening before they go on stage - contesters meeting each other, having fun, dancing together... ❤ Exactly what Eurovision is all about. And then the stage performance, I really enjoyed watching them and the Spanish audience was insanely great! I wish they would come to Malmo because their cheering was top ❤🎉🎉🎉 Greetings from Croatia! Love this breakdown. As someone who was in the crowd I can only echo what you said about Switzerland, Italy, Belgium and Croatia. Some tidbits of information that may be useful to understand a bit more on some artists:
1. A number of artists had horrible inner ear issues. I was speaking to one in particular who was performing for the first time live and he was really annoyed about it. He said he couldn't hear himself and he thought it was shit. However, as you have said here, and I told him at the time - it sounded great from the crowd, it worked really well, don't worry about it, Madrid is infamous for this issue (I imagine you know which of the top countries in odds I'm talking about here) - it was even worse last year with the pre-party sound. Aiko had the same inner ear issue and a few others. And that was such a shame for Aiko with the revamp.
2. Ireland - so....I don't necessarily think this is the wisest choice, but Bambie took the decision to basically not invest vocal energy during the pre-parties to save all the surprises for Malmo. Therefore the screams, the witchy energy etc is purposefully toned down because they want to shock at rehearsals with the performance in Malmo. But from the crowd I had the same feeling as you roughly - first verse wasn't great, the vocal moments of the chorus and the middle 8 were good, but the screaming they are purposefully not doing and I think it's a bit of a shame because you also need that buzz before going into rehearsals week. They can play into the aesthetics and creativity, but they need to sell the song better. Let's see how it goes in Amsterdam.
Finally, just an observation from the crowd as Serbia and Portugal were close together and often compared. I asked everyone around me at the end of the show which of the two they remembered more and which stood out more. Every single person, including a Portuguese person, said Serbia. There is something missing with Portugal in grabbing attention, and I hope Iolanda finds that otherwise Portugal will once again find itself fighting for the final qualifying places.
And yes, Switzerland screamed WINNER to me louder than anyone else last week. It was an incredible experience to see that live.
Thx for such a huge insight! Great reading it. Will just also add to it something what is actually important - if some artist says saving a voice to something more when they should performe, its quite unprofessional. Imagine people paid to see such artits and artist decide not to give 100% to such crowd. Just speaking from a producers POV, that this is not a right approach.

This pre-party shows how powerful the live performance of Grito was. She will remain the dancers and very similar staging with some natural tweaks, adjusting to the Malmö staging
For me the best performances were United Kingdom, Ukraine, Switzerland and Belgium, but as a Czech I am glad that Aiko showed all the doubters that she can give a better performance. + Switzerland has risen nicely in ods after PrePartyES. :)
UK imo just wont work as the song is very average. Aiko improved from -100% to 50%, there is still much more to do in compare to others who rly sing effortlesly. But she rly deserves big up for improving. Lets see with dancing.

it would be very surprising to see but I would be honestly rly glad for UK as they need at least some success. Even though I rly believe they need to completely change their approach towards the contest as a big5 country with so many privileges at Eurovision, they should show up winning potential every single year.

As a swiss im thrilled - Nemo just jumped to the top of the odds - The win is as close as 1988! But u are right, i hope there will be a better styling choice but i fear they wont change that. every live performance lately nemo was wearing that tull bag. it's awful. But then again: we all can recall Celine Dions awful tütü dress ;-)

Hi Jan, great vlog again🙏 I'm happy for Aiko she showed some dedication for improvement in what she is doing at the best possible way and that is important! I agree with almost everything you said and I feel you about diaspora voting in Eurovision and not equal and fair playing field for every country in the competition. It always has been and always will be in any big organization as unfortunately people are like that. But the fact is that if the song is great along with the perfect execution (because I think Eurovision is mainly about execution) there is always a great chance and possibility to get a lot of votes from the public and jury even as a small country without much diaspora support. We never had all this, we had sonically some good songs and a great song but never a perfect execution (singing, staging, charisma, costumes, makeup, etc.). The best ever execution we ever had was with Micolas and he was robed from the jury and it has managed to sink other countries many times, so jury is not a guarantee of fairness in the system we currently have. 50/50 in the semis is necessary but is it enough? Considering our country, I think the placements were more or less quite alright except Micolas he could be top 3. The contest will never be totally fair just the running order this year is again favoring some songs at the expense of others. Fandom is also not fair we have to take it or leave it but if we take it we have to do our best possible to execute it much more better than recent years because it’s a TV show and take notes from the best ones in the game. The question is if we have a capacity to do the great TV show. We don’t have enough great singers with charisma and strong voices and we don’t have evidently much talent, diligence, craftsmanship and support in the TV industry. On the other hand we are doing some steps forward and and it would be a shame to finish with the participation after the hard-earned experience of recent years. But of course for the producers is a different story and you are a producer as well.
Imo countries lkke Czechia need to send high quality or something extra every year to be secured in this semifinal system. Imagine some country gets 3x 12 just cuz its this country. If other can recieve 2 points from everyone secure them 36 points... same...
Anyway, Mikolas was not robbed. He did fantastic with public but performance for juries was not it rly, so actually it was an amazing result and for sure great for his confidence and career.
We dont have enough of everything because no one cares about it, there is no developement from both the music and tv industry. Not enough confidence to make it abroad etc. Thanks god we were able to create ESCZ and slowly build it as a platform, as this is only chance for artists to get such exposure.
I disagree with you regarding LUNA and your criticism about the static nature of the performance. Although it's a dance song, it relies on contrasts, similar to the hits of the Swedish icon Robyn, who doesn't typically have elaborate dance choreographies. Furthermore, Luna's vocals in the verses are whispery, while they gain dynamism in the choruses. It was the same during this performance. In my opinion, it was a good performance, although admittedly LUNA is preparing something more theatrical and visually elaborate choreographically for the May performance, so the pre-party was just a modest warm-up.

I see Mustii's hype and odds deflating after this, the song is too slow to build (I literally felt the need to fast forward to get to the end), the singing is questionable, and the lyrics are very repetitive. Was my biggest disappointment of the night. On the flip side, Nemo showed real talent, and I agree that the fashion is questionable, they need to be smart about not alienating the viewership with over-quirkiness, focus on good singing and interesting song and message.
All songs? Isaak from Germany was there but on UA-cam is next to nothing to be found about his performance. Wiwibloggs for example has covered every entry but Germany‘s. It‘s really annoying how much our singer is ignored.

idk if delegation can do something about global rights... but his management or publisher are not rly helping him. Especially if I consider the sad fact of very bad German reputation at Eurovision

I noticed that the @eurovisionspain youtube channel (www.youtube.com/@eurovisionspain) is starting to release higher quality versions of the performances at the Pre Party ES. So far 'We Will Rave', 'Nemo', 'La Noia', 'Zorra', & 'Baby Lasagna' have been released. I thought the vocals in 'Zorra' need a lot of work (although I absolutely love the composition). 'La Noia' seems to me like a song that could have been written many years ago! Not exactly 'contemporary', ... the same I could say about Armenia's. Greece's, which is also 'folkloric' somehow feels more contemporary to me.
yes, Zorra needs a lot, its kinda sad to watch it. The rest - I am preparing video of each in a "funny" mash-up

I don’t agree that pre parties are important. They’re fun if you attend but that’s it. 2016 2017 2019 2021 barely attended any if none at all
they are important for artists - to practice and also promote, prepare for Eurovision. Also for community around Eurovision. But they are not that super important to focus just there.
Oh. It’s very important! This is the first experience the artists have with wider/international audience.
