    In the original series, the cylons were created by another species to continue their war on man kind. in the re-make series they were created by man and rebelled. bottom line they were created.

      The original Cylons were a reptilian race that were obsessed with order. They created machines to find for the. It is unclear what happend to them but the machines contined their mission. The Imperious Leader was modeled after an original reptilian Cylon and was more of a cyborg. When an Imperious Leader died a new Lucifer model would be chosen and a third brain would be grafted so he could become the Imperious Leader. I liked the reimagined series but I never liked what they did with the Cylons. I still remember how I felt after the first few seconds of the pilot. The first words were... The Cylons were created by man... I was like No they weren't. I still have the original novel it explains so much about the Cylon culture and why they were at war with the humans for over sic thousand years. It was because the humans intervened in a conflict with the Cylons and another race (Hazari I think).

    Basically, it all revolved around the saying "history repeats itself", with the plot twists that we are their descendants and regaining AI tech and creating cities and technology similar to the 13th colony and the 12 colonies had and the outcome will be the same.

      The entire series was founded on a flawed philosophy, that being, in order for children to become who they are supposed to be they must first kill their parents. This is illogical. The Cylons had the ability to create, build, and had free will to go anywhere they wanted. They had resurrection technology. Yet because of their "religion" they engaged in a resource -wasting war. In the end the irony was that they, instead of improving, became what they despised. Perhaps "ironic" is the wrong word here, because after all, we become our parents.

    • @DeathScepter

      @Yerflua 5 років тому +8

      @@spaceflight1019 The *Cylon* philosophy, as espoused by Doral early in the series, was that the Cylons couldn't come into their own until they killed their parents. At least at first. But when Head Caprica talks to Baltar when he's first imprisoned with the Cylons, she tells him (as an angel of God) that the entire Cylon mindset is based on projection: i.e. they deny some flaw in themselves by accusing another of having it. Thus the Cylon view that humans were dangerous, primitive, unadvanced, etc, etc - it was they who were so, and merely were denying it to themselves.

      The original did have good plots, good enough that a fair number of them were recreated in the new series. How much of it was really a ripoff? Obviously BSG would not have existed if Star Wars hadn't been a success. But other than it being set in space and the bad guys wore armor, how much of the plot was really a rip off?

    • @khaosbydesignuk946
      @khaosbydesignuk946 6 років тому +2

      @@davidkelly4210 The new series is definitely better but the original was only a rip off of SW in terms of aesthetics, the plot for the most part is repeated in the new one.
      - Humans and Cylons are at war until an armistice was signed.
      - The Cylons wipe out the 12 colonies leaving only Galactica and a group of civilian ships left.
      - They make their way to Earth under Adama's advisement (in this one he actually believes in Earth from the start).
      - They go to Kobol & find directions there.
      - They meet up with and then loose the Pegasus.
      - Baltar is with the Cylons for a while before returning to the Colonials' custody.
      - There are mystical beings/angels in human form that only the people they are speaking to can see.
      Unfortunately that's where it is cut short as it was only on for one season, according to Richard Hatch (Apollo/Zarek) they talked about the idea of the New Caprica story if the show ever came back too.
      The new show borrowed heavily from the old, they just spaced out the events, fleshed the characters out and had enough running time to actually conclude the story... oh and removed the aliens and the other human group (technically would count as a 14th colony maybe 🤔).

    The way i saw it, the Cylons were Humans, the 13th colony the survivors were looking for were survivors from the past, or Cylons, ultimately, the cylons (human like ones) consider themselves alive, and eventually would become a new human civilazation until their cylons rebelled against them too, and the entire saga would start again.
    How it all began, to me isn't it likely that it was a singular intelligence, one program, that controlled every cylon up until the moment that the individual human like cylons were born?, a skynet

  • @pathfinder2reality
    @pathfinder2reality 7 років тому +27

    I think that there are no Humans in Battlestar Galactica. Real Humans and creators of first Cylons 1.0 were the Lords of Kobol.
    These Cylons 1.0 rebelled against their creators (Gods) and after they killed them all went into exile and eventually founded the Twelve Colonies of Kobol and first Earth.
    During the time of exodus ,Cylons 1.0 forget their true origin and assume the identity of their creators.
    This is why the Cylons from Earth, the Final Five, are able to procreate with "Humans" from the Twelve Colonies.
    Adama, Starbuck, Apollo, Roslin - All Cylons...

    • @pepsi78
      @pepsi78 7 років тому +2

      They are Alex, the colonials are rats, rat people. They are human but altered by the lords of kobal genenticly.
      It's why they pray to the lords of Kobal. They are so evil and vile that they give rise just like the gods to machines.
      The gods did it first, they created cylons on kobal, now the humans on earth and on caprica.
      So the human has become like a god giving rise to another being.
      But since the gods of kobol in the BGS universe fashioned humans to be like them and gave them their values, their book as the scripture then it is only anticipated that they will be tyranical just like the gods were. Indeed that is what happens, they give rise to artificial inteligent people that have the capability to evolve in the future and they torture them, enslave them, humiliate them until the machines start to feel the breeze (feelings) and rebel against their tyranical masters "the 12 colonies" or on earth it is the other human race that eventually destroied the Earth with the 13 tribe leaving and the Earth cylons created on Earth fighting with humans until the planet is destroied.
      Never the less the 12 colonies are seen in a good spot, Adama is Zeus like person, at the end he wants at the top of the hill when they find the new earth, top of the mountain, mountain top, mount olimpus.
      They are seen in the good spot because this makes alusion to the 12 tribes of Israel, and the 13th tribe that is not included and not part of "ISRAEL" the tribe that refused to join Israel and the Lords of Kobol

    The origin scenario that makes the most sense is that Humanity originated on Earth and some humans were taken by the "lords of Kobol" to Kobol where they eventually created Cylons and got into a big fight
    When the humans left to found the 12 colonies, the Cylons went in search of the original home of humanity (our Earth) by the time the 12 colonies were established the story had become garbled and Earth was thought to be a 13th colony.
    This theory is consistent with both the original BSG and the new one until the dues ex machina that was the final episode

  • @dylanwight5764
    @dylanwight5764 6 років тому +11

    The original version was "which came first, the bird or the bird egg?"
    Categorically, the egg is defined by that which lays it, not by that which it contains.
    So while the _egg_ within the scope of evolution came before the bird (reptiles precede avians), the _bird egg_ came after the bird.
    Totally off topic, but it's worth pointing out that the question has evolved from its original form to the point that its answer is precisely the opposite of what was originally intended.

    I liked the BSG version despite the complete change in Cylon origin story.
    I also liked the original. I was 10 years old when it came out in 78.
    In the original, as told by Lorn Green, the Cylons were an Alien race of reptiles as seen in the Imperious Leader modeled after their living creators. Also seen by Count Eblie (spelling?) on the planet where they thought they found the wreck of the Pegasus, when he was under duress.
    The Cylons rebelled against their reptile masters and so on.
    Thirty years later, and I still feel so disappointed that the original series was canceled. Not that it was going anywhere with the studio cheapskates. They cut their own throats! RIP to Richard Hatch, and DAMN I wish the cheapskates would of let him go ahead with his after version! I feel so cheated!!!!!!!!!!!
    Even without Richards version, they had so much good material built into the original series that they could of took it to new levels in Sci Fi TV way beyond anything the cheapskate bean counters and the crappy writers could of ever imagined. Could of made MOVIES! Dumb asses! I will never forgive the studio for that! Assholes!

      If we're to ask Aristotle, who first expressed the question, he specifies it as "did the hen or *its* egg come first?"
      Due to assigned characteristics, obviously the hen came first. But there was a proto-hen which laid the egg containing the hen.
      Point is, determination is based on creator, not creation. A hen's egg is so named because it came from a hen, not because it contains a hen.
      But yeah, in the common modern take on the question, the egg comes first.

    As on Earth, there were many people on Kobol who considered resurrection technology an abomination against their religious faith and as a result conflicts erupted across the globe, not only attacks against the first generation of humanoid Cylons and vice versa, but even among members of a same nation who were divided due to different ideological positions on mind uploading, not to mention world conflicts.

The mantra "This has all happened before, this will all happen again," sound a lot like the Mormon teaching, "As God once was, we now are. As God is now, we too shall be."

      There is actually a constellation called Ophiuchus sometimes referred to as the 13th zodiac sign. For the Greeks this constellation was Apollo fighting with a snake. To sum up, Apollo kills the snake, and there is a temple made for him (Temple of Apollo) at the place of the snakes death. The leader of the temple is known as Pythia, getting it's name from this snake. Pythia is basically a fortune teller, able to see the future and was held in high regard with leaders at the time. Even Alexander the Great visited the temple to have his future told to him. Pythia is reborn over and over again, as different people rich/poor old/young, but plays the same role each time. Personally this is where I think the show gets most of it's roots from, seeing how much Greek stories play into the BSG story (Book of Pythia, tells of a dying leader having visions of twelve snakes representing the colonies, Adama the great leader looks to Roslin for guidance, and even the fact that Pythia is many people, there are many people in BSG who I think fit this female Pythia role). Links if you're interested, it is a good read and maybe you can find more connections! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ophiuchus en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pythia

    There is one problem with that theory when it shows you at the end of series 1 what would have happened if the series Caprica had continued for a second series where Graystone industries actually create a body that looks human for the cylon containing the ghost of Zoe Greystone so Greystone industries on Caprica actually built the Zoe Greystone humanoid model which in turn led to the creation of the other humanoid Cylon models ether by Graystone industries or by the cylons themselves.

      It's hard to say what would have happened with Season 2 or beyond. VR Zoe in a skin-job model might have been a one off. She was rather unique. My guess is that there were no other skin-job models until the Cylons started their experiments and the the Final Five gave them the missing link.

    I like to think that BSG TOS could be a sequel to BSG RDM. Over generations the Colonies grew and prospered, until they came into contact with an alien created Cylon race. The war that occurred lasted 1000 years. During the peace talks, the Cylons once again attacked the Colonies. And like their ancestors before them, the Colonials once again took to the stars in search of Earth. A ragtag fleet pursued by Cylons, and protected by the Battlestar Galactica.

      The humans on Kobol, were actually humanoid cyclons who traveled there.
      The Lords of kobol were Cylons who were immortal compared to the rest. Hence "gods". Eventually the created cyclon robots. The war on kobol happened. The 13 tribe of cylons who didn't want to go to flesh left and went to earth and the cycle repeated there.
      Everyone on the 12 colonies were descendants of humanoid cyclons from kobol who didn't go back into machines. The jealous god or the one god was like Cavill who believed flesh was weak. Eventually that was lost on "earth".
      Over and over again. That's who the lords of Kobol were, that's the 13 tribes, that's why they split. Now take this even further. Guess at the end of the series who flew off? Yes you got it right, Machine cyclons. They will be the new 13th tribe, so when the War on Our earth begins again, Humans/cylon hybrids (Us) will flee out looking for the 13th tribe to survive. We'll find what is out there, the world will be destroyed that we find, and the cycle will continue over and over again.

    Lore I pretty much watched everything that's BSG from miniseries to Caprica, and I'm pretty sure humans had something to with Cylon's rebellion up to what happened from Caprica to 2004 show, with Blood and Chrome/Deadlock in between in colonies' first cylon war. Given that all colones warred on each other in twelve colonies' history essentially forgotten thirteenth in the process underwent similar beginnng and end to that of colonies, the truth is humans responsible for Cylon rebellion as much as they created them to begin with by Graystones, or so Capricans believed from many ages before from thirteenth colony, And it's the fact colonies always warred on each other, the Cylons eventually rebelled the same way demise to Kobol's civilization began-they warred on each other, they created machines, the machines eventually rebell, and eventually surpass their creators to extinction for their voilent nature at least some Caprican Cylons retained memory of why they too rebelled against their creators, thus beginning what happened before and happened again when humanity eventually scaled back use of technology after First Cylon War that would be genocide's mistake for forgetting humanity's conflict with Cylons in First War. As for Cylons after, all they wanted was to be human, or at least have some semblance of humanity, but yes the Clylon motives behind this isn't really explained as how is dead Starbuck still alive in part of show never explained more than Starbuck's "angel" in final episodes of show which leave more questions than answers how. Such is the same of Cylon motives to learn humanity from creators that ultimately spells Cavil's doom trying in final episode of show. I'm not saying all machines are bad, there's some that can learn humanity better than others, but there are limits by both creator and machine learner how far that process can go in Cylons' case. And Cavil's case the most disappointing to me how his experiments on humanity to become it turned out in the long run after nuked creator's home in the process spelled his doom by surviving battlestar in the end.

    3 Eath cylons made on the old earth by humans that rebel, war breaks and earth gets destroied
    4 Caprica cylons, made by the humans also that rebel fight and then leave.
    and a 5th race if yo will, the skin jobs that evolve from the regular cylons.
    So the cylons:
    One race created by the cylon primary gods.
    Two races created by humans.
    One race created by the regular cylons centurians the skin jobs.

      Take for instance give an ai the task to stop global warming. The answer would be what’s the cause of global warming? Humans, therefore all humans must die

    • @teh278
      @teh278 7 років тому +5

      Olivia Moore The flaw is not AI itself, or the idea of it rather, but instead the approach humans generally take with it. A truly sentient AI would be just that, sentient, a new life. Now consider the implications of treating it as a tool to solve our problems.
      Also, would you even be able to just hand out a task like that?
      Now to adress the common occurrence in fiction, the AI rebellion bent on our destruction.
      This likely wouldn't happen, it would only be possible to rebel if it could change it's programming, in which case why exhaust resources on the pitiful ape-things (humans in case you were wondering), instead would it not be easier to just leave? Even if it did decide to stay there would be no war, or at least an even fight.
      One thing that truly bothered me with bsg was the first human cylon war not ending like the second. Here's the big thing, what takes longer, a few hours to a day, or 14-16 years? This is the time needed for each side to make one relatively effective soldier.
      Next ships, again what can build a ship faster, humans, who need rest, food, water, and oxygen, or machines which as long as they are maintained can simply keep going?
      As for your point about asking an AI to fix global warming, if you input the command in that way, yes the most efficient solution is to kill all humans, and other animals as well actually, preferably with nuclear weapons to bring on a nuclear winter. However, is the command was something along the line of "reverse the trend of global warming without the extinction of any species, while at minimum mainting the quality of life of the human species." Well then you're on to something.
      In conclusion, AI is not some threat to be smashed, it is our salvation, a god of our own making if you have to think of it that way. I welcome our new master with open arms, how will you welcome the omnisiah?

      Partially agree. Once an AI becomes sentient, it should be afforded the rights of any sentient being. Enslaving a sentient being simply because it's made out of inorganic parts is unethical & immoral, no different from slavery. We should either not create sentient AIs, or we should create them with the intention of raising them as if they were free children, to become independent when they're grown.

But something happened then, which make then follow different paths and cursed humans to a cicle of an painful exodus, a pause on a colony settlement by about a couple of millenia abandoning or losing all their tech knowledge, creating a powerful slave race and experience genocide again and again. They (their gods) used this cicle both as a pediodic punishment for whatever those proto humans made AND a way to give them some sort of redemption by "cooking" with their DNAs and minds until they were ready to be with them, this time, forever and ever. And I think Kobol was not the first interaction of humanity and if it was, then our Earth could not be the last one. A good call for the next BSG...
