This is a great tutorial. Thanks! There is also a Microsoft Image Resizer in the Windows store. You can also use the "resize" option which is hidden in the side menu of the photos app. There is also an image covert and resize program here: www.dvdvideosoft.com/products/dvd/Free-Image-Convert-and-Resize.htm The program also can also rename the files. You can also uninstall Image resizer and install Power Toys that includes the image resizer: docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/powertoys/ With Power Toys you can turn off the features you don't use in the settings and Image Resizer is updated along with the other Power Toys.
@@alisonleigh You're welcome. Power Toys also comes with a program called Power Rename and it will tell you when there is an update if you have your notifications on with Windows 10. Auto capping can be useful.
THANK YOU. I have been trying to hire someone to screen cap all my exploring videos so I could have photo prints of some of the scenes, but people weren't getting it done. I've had VLC forever and I'll be able to get this done automatically probably in a week! You are an angel to my productivity
Perplexity: Windows decorations in VLC player refer to the visual elements that surround the video playback window, such as the title bar, borders, and control buttons. Awesome video. Very helpful, Thanks!
Thank you very much Alison. Very good tutorial with clear explainations and understandable vocabulary so that everybody can understand. I applied your method and it works perfectly. I needed this badly. Thanks again.
In order to extract every frame from a dvd or video in either jpg or png format, do this: Tools>Preferences>Video>All Settings> Advanced Settings>Video>scroll down and uncheck skip frames. Also, remember to change the recording ratio to 1 while in the Scene Video Filter itself. To stop capturing frames, uncheck "Scene Filter".
The only thing, I don't like about capping, is the numbering. The numbering starts out with four zeros which makes the number extremely long. VLC should remedy that for it's next release. I think VLC should also automatically create screencap folders for its users when the users decide to do automatic screencapping.
Subbed just because your sadness eminates. Also, because I had no idea a capping community was even a thing. Also, because I need screenshots.. anyway, hi!
Turns out that VLC hasn't updated the screecaping part of VLC. As it turns out, the only way that images can be saved into a directory is really: Video>All>Advanced Preferences>Video>Scene Filter>Directory Path Prefix. All of that work just to get images into a specific folder. That's just a lot of work AND you have to write in the path.
Hi Alison. I did all the settings like you did. I restarted VLC with the video, but it did not start capturing and the folder I specified stayed empty. What went wrong??
Belatedly (sorry!): It depends on what you're using it for! My use case is for screencaps that people turn into expressive icons to use for roleplay, so capturing as many expressions as possible is important. In that case, I usually set my frame capture to every 20 frames. Anything less and it seems to capture redundant/too similar frames. Admittedly, capturing a screenshot 20 frames generates a TON of screencaps and it's tedious to sort through when I capture movies. (But I do it anyway.) If you don't need to capture every little smirk and microexpression, you can set that to a bigger number and take fewer screenshots. My best recommendation is start with maybe 20-30 and let it run for a minute, and then look inside your screenshot folder to judge if the screencaps are to your liking for what you need them for.
Sorry for the late reply, but it's at 1:05. Tools > Preferences > Hotkeys You'll double click on the hotkey you want to change and it'll pop up with a dialogue that says "Press the new key or combination for [whatever action you're changing the hotkey for]" then press the button(s) for the new hotkey you want.

Well done, everything including the pitfalls, thanks! Do more!
