Dr. Pepper fan here. It reminds me of my grandfather; he'd always give us a bottle when we were at his house, much to my mom's dismay I'm sure!
Best soda. Way better than Coke.
Childhood memories here as well: Dr Pepper, dill pickle potato chips, and Tintin books.
Grandparents are the best!🧡
Nowadays many people are vegan or vegetarian...but I grew up where my G-Ma would brine ribs or pork (for pulled pork) in Dr.Pepper or Mr. Pibb (a brand in the south almost the same) overnight and I think the soda does something to tenderize and flavor the bbq. I love Dr. Pepper as well. I made my daughter vegan BBQ using plant-based meat substitute and bake tofu using Dr.Pepper it was surprisingly good
Dr pepper is the first soda I can remember trying. Been my favorite ever since.
This is how I do quick and easy birthday cakes when I don't have time to bake. The soda flavors are less pronounced if you use chocolate cake mix, but sometimes mixing them so the flavors mesh well is fun too. Strawberry soda in lemon cake mix is pretty good.
Chocolate cake mix taste good with coke
that sounds delicioussss good idea
Cherry vanilla colas or DrP in chocolate mix!
I bet you could do some crazy flavored cakes with Jones soda
Shannon that strawberry/ lemon actually sounds delicious and has peaked my interest. I'm not really into cakes but this cake seems like it is light and delicious.. thank you for your suggestion. 🥰
Orange soda cake with whipped cream on top would be delish
with vanilla cake! like a creamsicle
A real Creamsicle!
My mom and I used to make this cake and use it in a layered dessert with whipped topping and fresh fruit like a trifle type dessert. Fast and easy and tasted great at least when layered in w everything!
THAT SOUNDS DELICIOUS STOPP
oh man that sounds so yummy. Might have to try that out.😊
What kind of soda did you guys use most or like best?
@@Loves_Garden orange soda or lemon lime! Orange with lemon, orange or vanilla cake mix are all very good. Might go well w chocolate but haven't tried!
I’ve done ginger ale with spice cake and it was pretty good.
See my comment.
😋 sounds good
try it with ginger beer, even more flavor.
OOH I bet that would be soooo good!
Another good two ingredient cake mix trick is a can of pumpkin puree. I recommend it with Spice cake mix. It's deliciously Autumnal. But chocolate is good too.
That ones my favorite! You should also try it with a box of gingerbread!
Perfect for fall. 🍂
Do you use the 15 oz can of purée? Besides purée do you add anything else?
@@cyana5867 Yes the 15 oz can and just the pumpkin and the cake mix.
@@alib8758 Thanks! I will definitely try this!
My son had an egg allergy as a child so I made this recipe with a Sprite all of the time.
It's a common hack for vegans. Doesn't work on homemade cake mix though.
I've got an old recipe from my mom for Coca-cola Cake. It doesn't taste like Coke.
It's a chocoholic's dream. It's chocolaty, rich, and moist. And the icing that goes on top is even more decadent.
It's so moist that you can't make it as a layer cake. It has to be baked in a lasagna pan.
The recipe for the icing calls for chopped pecans or walnuts, but I don't use them when I make it. I don't make it for myself; it's too much for just one person. I would only make it for parties or other gatherings. The problem is that too many people have nut allergies. So I leave the nuts out. Those who've had it before with the nuts in never complained about my leaving that ingredient out. They just oohed and aahed over the richness of the cake.
How can you post something like this and not include the recepie? Monster! (Just kidding)
Do share the recipe! That's sounds amazing
You always gotta have a great chocolate cake recipe!
@@ricebeansrockroll882
I'll post the recipe this afternoon.
Chocoholic's dream? Count me in.
Here in Sweden we have some really nice raspberry and passionfruit sodas that might be interesting as cupcakes.
And there's also Strawberry Fanta!
Mmm...those flavor sound delicious.
mmmm, now you have me thinking about fizzy home brewed kombucha... mango, or blueberry, or strawberry basil
That moment when it’s 2am and you should really sleep but Emmy just uploaded a video 2 minutes ago😂
YAY!!!!
Back in college when I baked more often I would use 7up in place of water when I made the box mix because it made it moister and fluffier without messing with the flavor. Any time someone would ask I'd always swear by it.
For the citrus sodas, I would add fruit zest to the cake mix to give their flavor a boost. Orange zest in the Crush cake, lemon zest in the 7up and mountain dew cakes.
Or a little lemon extract
I have made many Diet Coke cakes throughout the years. One box chocolate cake mix and one can Diet Coke. I “frost” with whipped cream and sprinkle mini chocolate chips on top for texture. It’s so fluffy and delicious and I don’t feel as guilty eating chocolate cake.
Yep I did this too!
@Kate B please read the ingredients - you have plenty of sugar in cake mix
@@angelikaradominska5512 yes I know, but I still don’t feel as guilty without using the eggs and oils, etc. it was a weight watchers recipe I found years ago and it was only two points per piece.
@@KateB813 half of this one box is sugar I do not know how this is possible
@@angelikaradominska5512 well I only make it like once/year cuz I actually am not a huge fan of cake. And I know if I’m eating dessert, it’s gonna have a lot of sugar. Haha
"Do you like Dr. Pepper? "
Yes, Emmy. I do. 😂 I am a Texan born and raised, and it seems to me that liking Dr. Pepper is a rule for Texans 😂
my husband and kids say i am not texan because i don’t like dr pepper… i also prefer unsweet iced tea, which they say is blasphemy lol
I never was a fan of Dr pepper but Mr pibb is good not as syrupy sweet
"I'm a Pepper, you're a Pepper"...LOL It made me think of the jingle.
Most definitely!🤘
I wonder what the other funky, fun Mt. Dew flavors would taste like with the cake mix? Like, the Flamin' Hot Mt. Dew or the Major Melon Mt. Dew! Also, there's a "mystery" Fanta flavor called "What The Fanta" that's a bright blue color...those would be so fun to try!
The cake mix is 15.25 oz. because once you add the wet ingredients you should have 1lb of cake batter. Baking mixes are probably one of the only products that have remained consistent over the years as far as size goes. All because of baking’s precision of ingredient quantity and ratio.
Yep. You can't hide recipes going wrong, nor can you hide changes in ingredient recommendations to account for shrinkage. So they are forced to keep sizes consistent.
Wait are you saying they’ve always been 15.25 oz? Because they used to be 18.25 oz up until a few years ago.
@@lovesamc
depends on the type of mix, the vanilla one is 15.25, white is 16.25.
the only real picture i can find of vanilla a few years ago is at 15.25 also, at least according to the images i'm finding from blogs posting stuff in 2019.
i can't seem to find any past then. i'm sure it has to do how exact baking has to be to get the same results. clearly shrinkflation is a real thing, but doesn't look like it with the vanilla/white cake mix version at least...i haven't looked at the others. would be pretty noticeable to adjust cake mix sizes because the amount of liquids would change to super weird measurements.
@@rocksfire4390 I have seen some that are 16.25 but I think they are mostly 15.25 now, at least for the popular name brand ones. I know my grandma has some old recipes that call for cake mixes and we are needing to adjust those now because they are no longer 18.25. We didn’t even realize the difference at first until we started baking things. But, as it’s been stated before, baking is so precise so I’m hoping things don’t get smaller! 😂
They used to be 18 ounces for many years.
For the record, I’ve been a Dr. Pepper fanatic for 40 of my 42 years. 😉
Awesome! It's my fan too
😆😆😆
I used this with Mountain Dew for my husband because its his favourite drink, and plain white cake mix. He really liked it and it was easy.
Do the Dew.
That sounds yummy!
There's a cookbook that called the "cake Dr", and it has hundreds of ways to use boxed cake mixes with other ingredients. I first learned of the 7 Up cake when I was a teenager. When I was older, someone I knew made a chocolate cake with Coke. I'm more of a dump cake person..but I don't take a lot of time layering. I dump each ingredient in, spread it out, and throw the whole thing in the oven.
Sounds like I have to try a few dump cake recipes...
@@emmymade Sounds like you need to get your hands on a copy of this book too!
@@beanzbeanzbeanz It's a great book. Though some of the recipes are just as complicated as baking from scratch.
Always thought of these as "dump cakes" as in you dump all the ingredients in together (no layering) in the same pan you bake it in, kinda mix it together and then bake it. We would take these camping whenever we had access to an oven (even a dutch oven works). My favorite was spice cake mix and dr pepper. It is very sweet and sticky. Great for camping though.
I used to make these all the time as a teenager. My favorite combo was strawberry cake made with sprite. Cheap, quick, and vegan if you get the right cake mix.
Dump cake has been one of my VERY FAVORITE things ever since I was a kid. My grandma used to make them for me & now as an adult I like to make them because they are SO easy to veganize 🤤
I made one of these soda cakes with strawberry fanta for my birthday one year and loooved it. White/vanilla cake mix and strawberry soda made it taste kind of strawberry shortcake-y and a little artificial but in such a good way!
I love how you did the retro feel when displaying just the soda and cupcakes. Awesome effect. Yes, I like Dr Pepper.
Thanks!
My mom always makes a 7-up cake for Christmas! It's super good, it's a 7-up bunt cake, and she makes a 7-up frosting with it. It's delicious! It honestly tastes just like a lemon cake 😊
OMFG THIS IS A MUST TRY. such a fun idea with all the different flavours you can do!!
I do love the taste of soda pop when added to a cake mix. So much more flavorful than plain old water. Also, If you try mixing a liter of Sprite with some orange sherbet in a punch bowl - makes a punch perfect for just about any occasion.
Now you have to make corresponding soda flavored frosting for each cupcake flavor 😀
Fanta cake is really popular in Germany! A sheet cake with Fanta as an ingredient, canned peaches and a topping of cream/sour cream and cinnamon. Delicious!
Please please share the recipe
Thank you so much for posting videos 💌
Always interesting and amazing recipes/tutorials most of which I actually try! All of the fruit Nehi or Fanta colas make great cake! The rootbeer and cream soda also add good flavors!
I’ve made dump cake for years. It’s the favorite birthday cake, topped with ice cream. Cherry pie filling, crushed pineapple, chocolate cake mix, two sticks melted butter. It’s like Black Forest cake, but it’s goopy and amazing, especially topped with vanilla ice cream while still really warm.
This looks rly fun and something I can even try rn!
my kids made soda cakes in the microwave all through their school years. it was a cheap and kid-safe treat they could make on their own.
If someone doesn't like soda, you can use any carbonated water (club soda). The cake won't rise as much as a regular cake or a canned soda mix cake would but it doesn't ruin the flavor of the cake mix and the cake is still moist.
If you love lemon flavor, add 7-UP to a lemon cake mix. WOW! So good!
It's the middle of the night and I want to try that now lol
Thanks for sharing your tips!
What would be the point of using club soda though? It wouldn’t taste like anything….Id be the same as using water.
@@kirkxavier777 Because the carbonation makes for a fluffier cake.
These cakes are fun! Also fun is diet root beer with Cap'n Morgan in a glass over ice. 😆. Seriously yummy!
My absolute favorite soda cake mix is angel food cake and lemon-lime soda. It makes such an amazing, no fuss dessert. 🌻
I made such a soda cake once for experimental purposes (regular size) and the crust had an interesting crunch to it. Definitely an option for an emergency cake.
I love making a dump cake mix I make different kinds I do apples with walnuts for fall I made a mixed berry one for Christmas time I’ve also done peach cobbler type one for summer there so convenient super quick to do I love making them
I REALLY enjoyed this video. It was lots of fun to watch! Thank you for sharing ❣️ Your the sweetest. My son enjoys you lots too. He was the one who recommended your channel. Have watched EVER SINCE! I loved your food garden videos and all you have growing. I wish I could see how that's going. Your THE WHOLE PACKAGE! 😉 CONGRATS 🎉
Love it! The soda pop cake really is genius!
One of my favorite combos is a strawberry cake mix with cream soda! I did it a lot when I was a broke student but had pot lucks to attend.
This sounds so good, I'd love to try a cream soda and for sure the root beer one. I'm not a fan of anything with cherries so not a fan of Dr pepper at all. And happy summer time to you Emmy and family 💗💜💗
I've made confetti cupcakes with zevia root beer and it's sooo gooood. You can also make it with plain soda water!
That's cool. I never thought about adding pop to the mix.
So gonna try this!
I love Chocolate Coke a Cola cake. Super moist. Especially with a nice fudge frosting.
FYI- I highly recommend silicone cupcake liners. The cupcakes pop right out. Plus they are reusable.
I've always dreamed of soda flavored cake and im so glad that your living out my dream😭😭😭
Oh I love it- especially a purple cow cake
I love chocolate cake with cherry coke and root beer frosting, i make it every summer and its always a huge hit
Cake mix + diet soda in a toaster oven was how i made 2nd shift tech work fun without needing a ton of ingredients or a fridge.
Definitely loved using diet cherry soda and chocolate cake mix for a black forest flavor.
We did this with coke and chocolate cake mix years ago. so good
I love new videos!!
I did this with boxed brownies, and a can of Pabst Blue Ribbon, it worked great! You can make beer cake, too, and it doesn’t turn out too sweet, it just has a more complex flavor! (I topped the brownies with bananas foster and it was great, if I made it again, I’d add ice cream for a banana brownie extravaganza)
I loved the retro vibes in the video
Wow this brings back memories. When I was in school, we made these cupcakes (pop and cake mix) in Home Economics class.
love you emmy!
This reminds me of when my sister would make a 7up cake.. it’s so good. It’s citrus-y and moist.
I grew up with this recipe! Just change the setting to camping with Girl Scouts and a Dutch oven with hot coals as our equipment. 😂 It was always super popular amongst the scouts and really easy to bring camping since the ingredients didn’t require refrigeration.
That was pretty interesting! Gotta try it.
yay!!! i did these all the time as a kid, we would do mountain dew and root beer cupcakes a lot. though at home and with friends, we would add food coloring on top of it so it looked the color on top of tasting like it, so root beer we'd add brown, mountain dew green.... it was so fun and id love to do a Faygo cake sometime!!
Faygo!
That’s crazy talk Emmy, I love DP❤️!
Love these! I used a red velvet cake mix for the dr. pepper version and it worked out great!
My family's pie dough recipe has always used Sprite (or similar soda) as the wet ingredient. Works very well but doesn't make the pie crust taste like pop. I don't know how far back we've been doing that, but at least as far back as my grandmother.
The Dr. Pepper shade! Just when I was getting over the pickle shade.
I don’t watch most of your videos much anymore but I’m still subscribed for that one rare obscure video that I do find interesting enough to click on and this is one of them and I loved every second of it ❤️
I made a Diet Dr Pepper and chocolate cake mix cupcakes years ago, i remember them being really yummy! No Dr Pepper flavor when mixed with the chocolate.
I ❤️ Dr. pepper so much! One of my fave sodas!
Same is so good!
Dr pepper and german chocolate cake mix is the best I've tried and I did quite a few variations
This is a great way to make cakes for those who have egg allergies. Also love me some Dr Pepper! I’m from Canada and we couldn’t get it here for the longest time. Would only get it when we travelled to the states.
Thank you Emmy, for always brightening up my day!
I've been doing this for years because of my daughters egg allergy for her birthday cakes and cupcakes. Although, I've only used cola, and dark sodas for chocolate cake and vice versa. Now I'm curious about actually tasting the flavors so I'll have to give it a try. Thanks Emmy!
I made cupcakes with Sprite and lemon cake mix and a lime frosting with lime zest.
I was surprised that it was light, fluffy, tender and tasty.
I'm going to try the orange creamsicle next. Orange soda and vanilla cake mix.
My mom used to make a mountain dew cake and its soooo good. Moms is sticky as well and omg it is soooo good!
I think the separating and filming process kinda prevented your rise from being better. The trick with a pop cake is partially that it's easy and fast, but the downside is that being fast isn't an optional thing so much as you gotta be quick or the carbonation that works in your favor stabilizes and reacts with the mix and it won't rise as well.
I always enjoy your videos. I want to try this myself.
Thank you!
Chocolate cake mix with coke or Dr pepper is delicious also! This is my favorite way to make a cake
I'll definitely have to try the Barq's one. I love root beer, I'll drink any brand, but Barq's is farrrr superior to Mug or any other brand I've tried (they all taste watered down).
Oh, boy! If you're a fan of root beer, you'll love the cake made with Barq's.
I'm going to try that tomorrow
I remember the first time I tried Dr Pepper when I was about four years old, before that the only pop I had tried was root beer and my mom's diet coke and it had such a rich sweet spicy taste I immediately loved it
I am of course now wondering how the different varieties of Mt. Dew would do?
I had to try this -I have a bottle of Jones orange and cream soda -I measured out 1/4 box cake mix (115 grams) and 3oz soda to make 6 cupcakes -they are baking right now. Great idea since eggs are a premium these days
Coke with chocolate cake mix is one of my favorites!
Really cool idea and seems so easy that this is one that many will try:)
SO SO easy.
I just did a dump cake with soda. I have made a root beer cake before but this seems way easier! Cool video, I can't wait to see the next.
I used to make these as a kid!! We also had a special Tupperware container that essentially steamed the cake and cooked them in the microwave
Would definitely love to try the Dr. Pepper, root beer, and Mountain Dew! Love all three as drinks so cupcakes would be extra good!!
Yummy, love Root Beer, so would definitely be inclined to give that a go.
My mom and I made an orange and peach dump cake. It’s simple. Sliced peaches, dump orange cake on it and if you want some butter slices took til done. Was delicious
I also agree with some others. Use diet soda. And whipped cream on top. I used it for poke cake. Sugar free pudding as well.
I’ve made this before super delicious and quick
Yes! I adore the Doc.
Tastes good even when room temperature or gone flat.
I actually prefer it flat.
In Weight Watchers over a decade ago, we were taught to mix cake mix with diet soda instead of egg and oil to reduce calories. I guy used to make and bring them. My favorite was a "black cherry" cake - chocolate cake mix, diet black cherry soda, and topped with "lite" cherry pie filling and fat free whipped topping instead of icing. Soda cakes are fine, but I (and my non-dieting family) prefer the mix + can of pumpkin puree + 1/2 can of water. Makes a cake so moist, frosting dissolves, and it's high in fiber.
Nice idea, I can’t wait to try it! 😋
Cool. I'll have to try this recipe. Looks good. Mountain Dew is my favorite soft and so is Sunkist orange usually I mix Mountain Dew With Sunkist orange because Mountain Dew live wire doesn't taste as good as mixed it with Sunkist. Anyway this recipe looks simple enough and looks like it would taste good. Going to have to try this.
I know it would be super sweet, but if you made frosting out of the sodas and matched them up, and yes I love Dr Pepper, but its expensive here in Australia, so I like sarsaparilla instead, awesome video Emmy, love the cakes, brilliant idea 👍🏼👍🏼🇦🇺🇦🇺🦘🦘Cheers from Melbourne Australia
I like pairing a chocolate cake mix with root beer and a lemon cake mix with sprite. Cool whip on top, and fresh berries for lightness.
I make a pina colada cake with vanilla pudding mix, crushed pineapple, shredded coconut. Mix and add maraschino cherries on top. Bake. That's a great way to doctor up a boxed cake mix.
I've always wanted to try this with orange soda and sprite. But you went all out. Nice 👍
Reminds me of something my grandma used make called pineapple upsidedown seven up cake
Wow! You actually made a pitch for a sponsor interesting. I wanted to see more. Your videos are great, thank you so much!
