    Very useful video. In regards to iodine, I eat Dulse and nori seaweed and was wondering if I should get my iodine levels checked before taking any type of iodine supplement as I know seaweed is high in iodine?

    Some people with genetic disorders that include methylation issues don't always process folic acid properly, so taking the other source is better

    Thank you for the info. 17weeks pregnant here.
    I live in Norway it’s always cold here. Is it too late for me to take vit D since I am 17weeks?

    I'm new to this family.
    After 3 months I'm planning to get pregnant. I heard folate is good than folic acid. But we both don't have any idea to choose the best prenatal vitamins. Could you please suggest the best one for us?

      Definitely best to book a consultation so that I can get an idea of your diet and find the best prenatal vitamin to provide you with all your requirements.

      I am sorry to hear of your experience! I hope you are recovering well. Unfortunately, I cannot give personalised advice on social media. I recommend asking a women's health care professional that is accessible to you.

    I noticed a lot of prenatals on the market contain folate (as folic acid) 600 mcg DFE (353 mcg folic acid). At first glance you see the ‘600 mcg’ and think that’s enough but then in parentheses it has a smaller amount under 400 mcg. Can you explain?

    • @NourishwithMelanie
      @NourishwithMelanie  2 роки тому

      Yes I can understand this is confusing! DFE stands for Dietary Folate Equivalent. This is used as folic acid supplements or fortified foods have a far greater bioaviabilty than folate found in food. This means to reach your needs, you would need far less from supplementation compared to dietary folate. The conversion is 0.6 mcg folic acid from fortified foods or dietary supplements consumed with foods = 1 mcg DFE. So 353mcg DFE (various forms of supplemental folate) = 600mcg of folate. I hope that helps!
