without the late, great Levi Stubbs, i just can't bear to watch this....my heart breaks when i hear anybody else sing this....sorry it doesn't make it for me, and never will.....R.I.P. Levi...missing you...a dedicated tops fan..
I was fortunate enough to see The Funk Brothers grace the stage in Windsor back in July. I am only 33, and I felt myself taken back in time it was really neat hearing all these great songs played live. It's just unfortunate that alot of these great singers are no longer with us.
Loved the song . Theo did a good job ., But It was far from the GREAT LEVI STUBB . Obie was on the Video so I know Levi was around somewhere keeping a eye on his guys . Now both of them is gone and I miss them so.. R I P THE CAPTIAN & OBIE You are THE TOPS
I appreciate that Northern... Sorry, I was just venting. Motown had such a special sound and the engineer could have used more care. For instance, the drums on Motown records were always at the foreground of the mix and had an open feel. The engineer here pulled them into the back in the mix and used a controlled mic up method. Just simple little nuances can make or break a sound. I'm probably being too critical, but this just doesn't sound like Motown.
The sound engineer that did this show screwed up big time. The mixdown is horrible. The band sounds like an American Idol backing track, but even worse. Sorry I'm being so critical but if you're going to spend the bucks to hire The Four Tops, The Funk Bros and put on a big budget show like this then you better damn well get it right.
