There's so much charm and beauty packed into this single minute clip. The gorgeous background, the earnest emotions in Pongo's expressions, the simplicity of the dialogue, the subtle music. Modern Disney movies can be good too, but they just can't quite capture the magic in these old ones.
When I worked at a veterinary clinic, this happened frequently. So heart-warming to see life revived! Today we are celebrating the 6th anniversary of our granddaughter coming home from the hospital, after having been born at 26 weeks and spending 3 months in an incubator. God is good.
Hi Mariah, I hope your granddaughter is doing fine at the moment. We had our twins born at 32 weeks, I can understand how hard it is to raise a premature baby, especially in the first year. Best, Anthony.
Perhaps the best moment in the movie because of how it was presented. Roger solemnly accepting the situation but still wanting to give the puppy another chance to live. There is no background music score, just a momentary flash of lightning and the clock ticking. Pongo quietly moving in closer to watch Roger. And then. . .success! 🥲
This whole event actually happened to Dodie Smith. Her dalmatian had 15 puppies. One of the puppies was stillborn, but her husband managed to revive it in the same way that Roger does in this scene. This was what inspired Smith to write the book in this first place, along with her friend's comment when she saw all the dalmatians "They would make a perfect fur coat".
When I was a kid I always assumed that the puppy that died and was revived was Patch but I later learned it was Lucky Still I always thought that the tiny thing was very adorable! 🥰❤️
Interestingly enough, the puppy that almost died in the book was named Cadpig, and was female. There was still a puppy named Lucky, but he was a different puppy. The book stresses that Cadpig was weaker than the other puppies, so it made the traveling difficult after Pongo and Misses Pongo rescued the puppies. I always thought that this subplot was dropped because they never explicitly stated that the puppy that almost died was Lucky in the movie version (it was only mentioned in promotional material), so I always still assumed it was Cadpig. Later, when I found out it was Lucky, it made a lot more sense. Lucky is the one lagging behind in the blizzard scene, the one that gets caught under the snow pile washing the soot off, etc. The subplot was retained in the movie the entire time, but Disney messed up by changing the puppy's name and not telling the audience that.
Lucky sure was one special little pup. Seems like he was presumed to have come out stillborn when he was first born because he wasn’t moving. It’s possible that he was a low birth weight which may have taken him a little longer to either start breathing or moving around. Roger rubbing him like this kinda helped to wake up Lucky and have him show some signs of life. Definitely makes sense why Lucky earned his name when he was born. 🥰
I helped my chipin dog deliver 8 puppies and one wouldn’t breathe because she was too overwhelmed to help them all. We had to kind of swing it up and down to help shake all the liquids in their noses or lungs loose. It worked and she was a very strong healthy pup!
I love pongo and perdita and all the Dalmatian puppies but lucky is one of my most favorites out of the bunch, he overcame the odds with the help from his family and survived and became something special in animation and live action, he’s a miracle pup
Roger Radcliffe has always been one of my favorite “Disney Guys” based on this scene alone…and I love it when Pongo “boops” baby Lucky’s nose at (coincidentally!) 1:01 as if saying, “It’ll be okay now; Daddy’s here!” 🥹 (I could be wrong, but I don’t think they ever explicitly say that Lucky was the puppy who was saved in the 1961 animated 101D, but they did say so in the 1996 live action remake and I’ve accepted it as canon in both versions all my life 😊)
I watch this animated movie when I was a kid, it's pretty charming and the animal characters do have emotions. The live-action movie, on the other hand, is way more emotional than the animated movie. Even though the animal characters almost noticed the emotions.

What I wanna know is how is it even possible for a dog to be able to give birth to 15 puppies in the first place? Most dog breeds ( including Dalmatians ) females have 10 teet however can have only up to 6 puppies at most. It's even said in the wikipedia that only 6 out of the 15 puppies actually have names
well do you have any evidence to support this ? Because I doubt all of them would be able to even live as long as they did if it were even possible to have a litter of 15

Well when a was 10 I had a kelpie dog named Jessie and she gave birth to a litter of 28 pups, unfortunately the runt died because he couldnt reach the breast in time for being so small and slow. Did my dog break a record? haha.

Powerful Scene because of The scilence...🤔
CPR for little newborn puppy. Roger is hero of that evening.
I swear that puppy was called Lucky
I wanna say it was odd ball.. cause of thr pink nose but I could be wrong
@@frequentblondie Many say it’s Lucky - since anyone would be lucky to escape death.
My mom tried that with a new born kitten and it worked.
I did it with a newborn puppy and brought him back to life ❤❤❤
They do it all the time in vet offices!
That means... Disney saved Several lives with this Scene!
He knew what He was doing!

What a concerning thing for a friend to say 😂
My favorite scene was always this one. You could see the disappointment and than the happiness in Pongos eyes!

I think, I have to watch The movie again
@@curtthegamer934
Cadpig is included in The 101 Dalmatians The Series with Lucky Rolly and Spot the Chicken..
@@katelynthewhitewerewolf6376 I actually knew that. But I think the animated series was a different continuity.
@@curtthegamer934
Neat and there's also 102 Dalmatians I'm surprised it hasn't gotten an animated movie adaptation.
I totally watch it.
Newborn Baby Lucky is so cute and adorable.
I like the lightening when he's rubbing away. Like the scene in Frankenstein. It's alive! it's alive!
I Know, ITS a Cartoon, But this very Scene touched my Heart as a kid
Should it matter if it’s a kids cartoon or not?
The one thing about this scene that always struck me as odd even as a kid was the speed that clock pendulum was going at.

I researched and that was actually cadpig from the series
Lucky’s so cute. He even touched his daddy’s 👃🏻.
I did the same as Roger. But my puppy still die.
In the real world. Miracle it's very hard to come.
I did the same thing too when my cat gave birth to 2 stillborns. I was devastated.
It is sad, my mum did this when my dog had puppies to two of them. She saved one but she couldn't save the other one
Look closely, when Roger is reviving the 15th puppy, he moves exactly to the sound of the clock
Aww that adorable kiss Pongo gives Lucky when he comes out of the cloth ❤
i like coming back to this clip for *certified seratonin™️*
It's was like a miracle from God that the puppy lived
So cute when that puppy peeks out.
While it is never mentioned in the movie itself, in the book it is explained that the revived puppy is Lucky.
Roger was ready to accept the puppy, Lucky, was gone, but for his beloved Pongo, he would at least try to save his puppy.

That lightning and thunder outside.
It’s like a Frankenstein’s monster reference.
How fucked up would it be if Roger just went “It’s just one of those things.” and then it fades to black.

Yes it can. This was based of something that actually happened.
It's not 100% but it's worth a try. It's suppose to help stimulate the breathing if I remember.
it can! it simulates being groomed after birth and triggers a reflex to "wake up" and get the blood flowing. it's not 100% but its a real thing!
