    I have a cheap cost effective option on my NPI 2v. It uses a PI manifold from a 2011 crown vic and a V10 Triton dual 57mm Throttle body and 2 phenolic adapter plates to mount the two together. It looks like a composite plastic copy of a Bullitt.

    • @yeanah2571
      @yeanah2571 3 роки тому +1

      Interesting. Just bought an 03 Crown Vic a few days ago, didn't know some of this stuff was an option. Didn't know the 6.8 had a big TB like that

    • @madmod
      @madmod 3 роки тому +1

      @@yeanah2571 Yes sir! The v10 shares the same Twin blade tb as the 4.6L 4v Cobras and the plenum/elbow has all the same vacuum ports and even shares the tps, and iac valve. The only thing you have to delete is egr. The plenum is ultimately going to be used with my Victor Jr intake manifold as a cost effective option for a 6061 sheetmetal plenum but I ran it on my pi intake swapped 1996 gt. It replaced a 04 crown vic plenum that I ported to 75mm on the inlet and turned into glorified tinfoil, ran with an aviator 70mm throttle body. Both run very good and better than stock but the dual blade plenum is more noticeable past 4000rpms. Pretty cheap mod for power gains when done with a pi intake swap but money is probably better spent in gearing especially on a big Vic!

    Stock PI intakes are the best intake for most mild 2Vs making under 500w. Eddy for the big power 2Vs. The other benefit for the PI in real world driving is the lack of heat soak. Nitrous on stock PI manifolds is fine, just don’t spray over 150 and don’t spray under 4000rpm. Good video. I was pleasantly surprised at how the bullitt did. I thought it would have gained more than it did up too even on the mild cam.

    The Bullitt had different exhaust, intake manifold, throttle body and pulleys and depending on sources was only rated 5-15 HP more than the GT. It's not too surprising that the intake alone didn't produce a huge gain.
    I just pulled my Bullitt's motor for a rebuild. I got some ARH long tubes and x-pipe and I'm planning on TFS heads and cams.

Head cam will retard the cam timing events. Cost anywhere from 15 to 40 hp depending on combo. I saw this issue day one in my head. I worked in a performance machine shop and was astounded nobody caught this issue. What's worse is i never said anything and a year or two after the heads released people started figuring it out. The bullet Manifold also adds 40lbs to the top of your engine meanwhile the PI doesnt. However, You have to Port the Bullet manifold and have much bigger Cams and Ported PI Heads, forged internals, and boost to truly take advantage of that manifold.

Which one would be worth the $$$ that question is never answered beyond it flows up top ...which is the description of the product provided by Ford Racing. You said you are using the comp cams XE262AH cams ? these have .550 lift ? I was under the assumption that the NPI mustang heads are limited to .530 lift and either need the spring seats surfaced or special retainers and locks ? could you clarify that neither of these were done and that the PI version of the comp cams work in the NPI heads ? was trying to locate a spring seat cutter and pilot to resurface NPI spring seats for the PI aftermarket cams on ported NPI heads but everyone steers me to bridgeport tools ? I am trying to get s seat cutter that is identical to the seat dimensions because these valve guide seals also have a metal spring seat to keep the springs from searing into the aluminum head ? if the cutter is not perfect the valve guide seal will not sit correctly and the spring sits on the valve guide seal. would you need to machine the top of the guide and run a seal directly on the guide and use a metal washer under the springs to protect the heads ?

      Pi heads arent all that. 90% of the improvements from the full pi swap comes from the intake manifold and cams. The rest of the gains are primarily the bump in compression which if matched, the npi will produce similar HP. The PI heads really dont flow much better than a NPI and both are pretty lethargic. When you consider the PI has 13cc larger intake ports (159cc vs 146cc) that average only around 10cfm greater flow across the low-mid lift range and actually less high lift and peak flow (160cfm @.550 for pi, 175cfm @.550 for NPI), it looks less appealing. You also have to realize, the npi head has a single angle valve job vs 3 angle with a PI head and you start really seeing the issue. A matched valve job will produce greater average and peak flow numbers out of a NPI than a stock pi head despite smaller ports which means the head has better port velocity. The guys who actually know how to port npi's like Renegade got similar flow numbers to MPH PI's but do so with swirl dams in place making a far more efficient combustion chamber vs the pi head which is already detonation prone due to the plug inserts you have to run on almost every casting. Non PI's benefit from thicker decks, deeper combustion chambers that allow huge ptv compared to a pi, and even use the same pi valve spring just installed at a shorter height which allows for more valve control at a cost of max lift before coil bind. You can fit cams with such a tight ICL in a Npi that would bend valves on any pi combo regardless of degreeing and that is more conducive for power production. Johnny Langton went 12.98 @103 in a 3700lb thunderbird on renegade ported NPI heads, stock shortblock at 9.3:1 compression, stock pi camshafts, stock pi intake manifold, while running through a 4r70w automatic. Thats stock coyote territory for a *lot* less money.

I been telling them they are the same intake as the mustang PI intake except different part number and packaging to sell to NPI owners and mustang PI owners that do not know any better ? and on the same line of reasoning the 2005 and up crown victoria and mercury grand marquis 4.6L 2v engines with the PI intake ? other then only one sensor mounting hole in the front crossover instead of 2 and a different part number it should also be the same ? do not know why they put the other sensor in the driverside head but drilling and tapping a hole for the 2nd sensor is quite easy they already have a flat pad. And if for some reason this entire topic never came up before ? might you throw together a dyno run comparisson because been searching the net and cant find anyone that has done this back to back on these 3 intakes ? and to be clear its mustang PI frod motorsport PI and crown vic PI and who knows maybe the grand marquis uses another one as well ?
