    The 2004 Summer Olympics took place from August 13 to 29 in Athens, the birthplace of the Games, and marked the return of the Olympics to Europe for the first time since 1992 in Barcelona. With 202 participating nations, a new record was set, surpassing the previous record of 199 nations set in Sydney in 2000. A total of 301 competitions were held. 🔥
    One of the outstanding personalities of the Games was swimmer Michael Phelps, who won six gold medals and set a new record with a total of eight medals in a single Olympics. In cycling, Leontien Ziljaard-van Moorsel set new standards by becoming the first female cyclist to win a total of four gold medals in her career, bringing her total to six Olympic medals. In canoeing history, Birgit Fischer made history by becoming the first female athlete in any sport to win two medals at five Olympic Games. These impressive performances helped to make the 2004 Olympic Games an unforgettable event. 🤩
