Hi John - about to choose between two amazing 61 key controllers - would like to know if you would recommend the Oxygen 61 PRO or the Arturia Keylab ESSENTIAL 61? Hey Mike. Thanks for the work you’re doing, much appreciated. Now I have a question for you that I hope you can answer. Where did you find the information that the Keybed is the exact same as on the Keystation 61? And when you rate the keybed 4/5 - is that reflecting the price range or is it in direct comparison with, let’s say, a fully weighted digital piano? With love from Scandinavia Sincerely Mosi
@John Mike - Have you tried the M-Audio Code 49/ 61, and if so - how does it compare to this keyboard? I'm leaning more towards picking up the Code 61 because of the placement of the pads, but wondering if there is a noticeable difference in the key beds? Great video, thanks so much J
Im coming from a dawless ecosystem. Decided to do a softsynths one and was ready to pull the trigger on a keylab but last moment this boy went on listings so i brought it home. The how easily it blends with studio artist and reason is mindblowing but i feel is like the unofficial fl studio midi keyboard akai knows... Long time ago when i was studying i had the komplete S49 mk1. This one feels more noisy but quality build its not bad at all overall +aftertouch im extremely happy with it. Looks good also next to my jdxa and juno106 .
i use it with cubase 11, there's two mains problem, the pitchbend is lagging, and using the oxygen pro make the rec always armed on the first track (i have to disconnect the midi port set on mackie control to disarmed the rec on the first track) so i can't use the transport etc...other than that the keybed is ok, the pad aren't enough sensitive but workable...hope that m-audio support will react fast with a new firmware... i have the launchkey mk3 no bug but the pad are small (good sensitivity), the keybed is strange but workable and no note repeat
What do you think of the 25 key version? I can't afford this larger size version right now and was looking for something smaller in size/budget. I'm not trying to record a full song performance, not at that stage yet and I like having my song creation workflow being through loops. Couldn't decide between the Akai Mini MK3 or Arturia Minilab MK2 and after looking at some videos of the 25 key Oxygen Pro it's blowing me away.
I got the 25 key version a week ago. It’s a really well built controller/board, but the DAW control out of the box isn’t great. I use Logic and although there is “Logic” preset, the manual tells you to use the ProTools preset. That is using Mackie/HUI commands so transport controls are ok. Everything else is a bit meh... Looks like they haven’t finished all the preset work yet. The preset editor on Mac is really primitive, but I did manage to create my own USERDAW preset and by configuring Logic, I am getting reasonable DAW control. There is no proper manual for these keyboards yet, just a quick start guide. Hopefully that will arrive at some point. This is my first keyboard and I made the jump based on the claimed Logic DAW support, so I am a little bit disappointed that it’s not there out of the box. Alternatives I looked at were the Nektar impact LX25+ and the Arturia MiniLab. Both of these can be configured to support Logic. They are getting a bit old I suppose, so I chose this one.
I'm thinking of buying this keyboard. Is it better or worse than arturia keylab essential to play piano? I'm asking just because I'm not ready for real hammered action keyboard yet. Too expensive for a novice
@@Johnmike So I heard that arturia essential has simple synth action keys. not even semi-weighted. Did I miss something? Should I consider something else? The problem is that I use FL mostly as a DAW and there may be a problem with Novation or some other budget keys. afaik both arturia and oxygen pro work with FL right out of the box
In your extensive experience, if you had to choose between Novation Impulse 49, and between M-audio oxygen pro 49, which would you choose? I want an almost professional feel on the keys, good pads, good daw integration, good support with logic x.
Novation might be a better package in terms of key feel...they both have pretty much the same logic intergration...a better fit for logic might be the Nektar T6..has deeper interfration and control
It's nice seeing what these boards do. It'd be nicer seeing someone do something with them.

@@Johnmike Thank you John Mike. And how about selecting banks of channel mixer? I mean you have 8 channel mixers (with pan, solo...etc.) Can you move to the next 8 channels and so on? Tell me yes please.🤔
@@ivangonzalez3523 yes it can be setup to do so
@@Johnmike Thanks I'm done.🙂
I am trying to choose between this keyboard and the Arturia keylab essential 49 which one should I get?
Between these is go for the Arturia
Thanks man for video
Sorry Which midi does not have that clicky sound???????
@John Mike please answer my q
Great video! Helped me loads and I can finally decide on the next best keyboard for me. Just wondering, what laptop stand do you have?
With love from Scandinavia
Sincerely Mosi
I’ve had the keystation 61 so I know the feel...and yes because of the comparison
@John Mike - Have you tried the M-Audio Code 49/ 61, and if so - how does it compare to this keyboard? I'm leaning more towards picking up the Code 61 because of the placement of the pads, but wondering if there is a noticeable difference in the key beds?
Great video, thanks so much
J
I have...here’s a video I did on it...ua-cam.com/video/skJUSRdL-dA/v-deo.html but if I had a choice I’d probably still go for the oxygen
👍👍Thanks for pointing out the lack of expression pedal input. Pro? No. I checked m audio website and it's not mentioned there.
Is the keybed same arturia essential in touch? They are semi heavy so do you think there are many different?
They are different
I can tell you that arturia essential keys doesn't fell "premium" like I heard, but are reaaaaly disappointing. Worst than m audio 49 for example
@@michelepeccini12 I am returning mine. It was very disappointing. I want to know what would be the best keybed on the market for a 61keys
Thank you so much for this review.
Very informative reviews for a beginner like me. Thanks, this world is so different from guitar.
Hey Mike! Great video man , I just ordered one . Question, is this a good midi keyboard to start with ?
Yup
Hey! Would love it if you kinda did a tutorial on how to loop with the Oxygen Pro! Thanks!
Can this be played with out a computer or is it exclusively to be used with a daw?
With a daw
Looks like a nice controller, and great review. For my head though, the Arturia would work better. Love the t-shirt BTW!!
John Mike, is this the same keybed as M-Audio's Code series (I know you've reviewed both)? Thanks.
No it’s different
I'm between this one, and the Roland A800 pro ! Does the Oxygen has the same keybed ? Any opinion about the differences?
Check out videos of bugs and glitches of these pro series... people are having issues
How hard is it to set up in cakewalk by bandlabs?
I would buy this board... if they got the endless endcoder instead of the regular knob.
i use it with cubase 11, there's two mains problem, the pitchbend is lagging, and using the oxygen pro make the rec always armed on the first track (i have to disconnect the midi port set on mackie control to disarmed the rec on the first track) so i can't use the transport etc...other than that the keybed is ok, the pad aren't enough sensitive but workable...hope that m-audio support will react fast with a new firmware... i have the launchkey mk3 no bug but the pad are small (good sensitivity), the keybed is strange but workable and no note repeat
I think having the 25 key would be good...but I also really like the Akai as well and think it’s a solid buy for the price and functionality
They are getting a bit old I suppose, so I chose this one.
love the review. how does this compare to the Nektar Panorama T4/T6. I'm a LPX and cubase 11 user and am now looking for a new midi keyboard to use.
Gonna be dropping a comparison video soon
What keyboard did you end up getting? Im also thinking of getting the T6 but still undecided
I'm thinking of buying this keyboard. Is it better or worse than arturia keylab essential to play piano? I'm asking just because I'm not ready for real hammered action keyboard yet. Too expensive for a novice
It’s about the same
@@Johnmike So I heard that arturia essential has simple synth action keys. not even semi-weighted.
Novation might be a better package in terms of key feel...they both have pretty much the same logic intergration...a better fit for logic might be the Nektar T6..has deeper interfration and control
nice video....one question? which keyboard would be the next step UP from this if you wanted an expression pedal input
Which would you recommend, this or Arturia Keylab 61 MKii
I think its better de arturia, buy its 100€ more expensive
Which board would you say is better arturia key lab 61 or this board?
I got a head to head coming soon...I need a little bit to compare the two
@@Johnmike Can't wait! I'm having trouble deciding between Arturia keylab essential and the M-Audio oxygen pro.
Good video my man!!! This one or the launchkey for Ableton looping? Is the keybed on the novation mk3 bad?
I don’t care for the Novation Keybed...but it might be better at live looping than the oxygen...we shall see...doing a comparison soon
Sorry I have a question about Gospel Musician iPad apps. Which the best to get? Are they all different?
Would you recommend this for somebody wanting to learn How to play
Sure
@@Johnmike I was a little overwhelmed with all the features. I will be purchasing it. Thank you.
