    You should do a review on repair costs, IE: repairs to paint and dents. Tire replacement costs etc.

    Some of the interior trim is covered in "Alcantara", not Suede.
    Suede is fluffy leather and is used on 80's shoes! Alcantara is especially made for a plush feel/ look in cars, boats and luxury furnishings.

    Is there an optional integrated roof mounted solar panel available as an option. This would help with trickle charging whilst stationary and regular driving.

    Don't forget that those Supercharger stations are FREE to use (I don't think this gets emphasized enough in reviews). No worrying about membership or having the wrong RFID card with you. The only requirement is that you have your Tesla with you. Heh heh.

      It's like getting free petrol for life and being able to drive throughout the continent and U.K. for free. Also keep in mind that most people charge at home overnight. Fast charging is really only needed for long distance road trips.

      They won't be free for the upcoming cheaper models like the model 3.

    • @LoanwordEggcorn
      @LoanwordEggcorn 8 років тому +2

      Daniel D Correct, but Supercharging will be available for Model 3 either as an option or as some kind of subscription or pay as you go model. So it will be available, but cost extra.

    Model 3 should start at £30,000 in the UK, not 35. Then take off the £4.5k grant to make it £25,500.
    That's juicy. That's real juicy.

    • @redferret
      @redferret  8 років тому +1

      :) But do you think he'll make it in enough numbers and on time? It's a huge ask.

    • @timaustin2000
      @timaustin2000 8 років тому +1

      +Red Ferret Oh yes it's a huge, huge ask.
      But Musk's talk of engineering the vehicle specifically to be easily manufactured and using engineers to do nothing but study ways to improve the efficiency of the production line itself gives me hope. Big car companies don't look at this kind of thing in the level of detail that Tesla is starting to.
      There will be a car in 2017. Whether they'll make 100,000 of them in Q4,.... well, I'm not wholly sold. And I don't really expect the first six month run to be all that profitable, if at all. But neither do I think they'll make a loss.
      By Q3 2018 I think they'll be making some serious moolah.

    • @redferret
      @redferret  8 років тому +2

      Hmm...yes Q4 next year will be crunch time, eh? By then GM will have the Bolt on offer, and no doubt Nissan and Renault will have consumer priced 200+ mile EVs on sale too. My prediction is that Tesla will end up as the Apple to the rest of the world's Android in EVs. Or they'll be bought out if things go pear shaped with the launch of the Model 3.

    • @LoanwordEggcorn
      @LoanwordEggcorn 8 років тому +1

      Tesla is definitely the Apple of cars, only better. ;) We hope the other car makers will start to build more EVs. So far, aside from Nissan, they're not doing much. What other EVs are self-driving and have free fast charging? None.

      Too many. Will tesla still be in business (I think it will), will the grant be available, will electric really ever catch on?

    • @redferret
      @redferret  8 років тому +4

      I think electric (or some sort of alternative fuel) vehicles are inevitable - as well as self driving Uber style transport - given our climate problems. I just wonder whether Tesla will be caught and outrun by the large pockets of big auto before it has time to settle in as a market leader? It's going to be an interesting few years. :)

    • @LoanwordEggcorn
      @LoanwordEggcorn 8 років тому +2

      The potential competitors (think electric BMW 5 and 3 series respectively) are at least 5 to 10 years behind Tesla, especially given that none have really started to make purely-electric, highly-sophisticated, long-range EVs. Only GM is even in the same range with the 200 mile Bolt due next year. Audi is a potential competitor if VW build their proposed 10 billion Euro battery factory. Otherwise not. And any new battery factories will take say 5 years to produce enough batteries needed to compete with Tesla's Gigafactory. So no, Tesla isn't going to be overtaken any time soon. I wish they would since we need more EVs more quickly.

    ALL of the car manufacturers on the planet have 1 Tesla S and 1 Tesla X. Because Tesla is the Gold Standard and template for all of the other car manufacturers future car production.

    This is not the 2016 model, in fact, it's a P85D, so the car is from before july 2015...

    • @redferret
      @redferret  8 років тому

      Well yes. Except that Tesla is the only car maker in the world that has a policy of continual - and significant - model improvement through software upgrades, I believe? :)

    •  8 років тому +1

      Yes, and they also did a model update in 2016, which looks different and has various hardware updates. But you already know that, since included it in the clickbait title.

    35000£? I thought is 35000$. Doesn't that mean 24000£? I placed my deposit for the model 3 and can afford 30000£ with 5000£ worth in options like autopilot and a bigger battery pack. But I really can't 35000£ for a base model.

      It doesn't matter anymore. This dumb country voted to leave EU, the pound will get weaker than the dollar in the next 2 years and I'll probably pay for my Tesla 38000£(35000$) instead.

    With Air Con using power all the time it is on I was surprised there was no Sun Roof, Electric or Manual. The range has always been the hold back of electric cars (Apart from cost), Which is why some companies went into hybrids, For example I drive a 180 Mile for Christmas with family and a week later the 180 miles home again, Apart from that I could happily have one an hire a normal car for the Christmas journey. Would I buy one of these? NO. Because there in no indication of expected life of a set of Batteries, Cost of a set of Batteries and cost to replace them. Would I be put off because it is an electric car? NO because these days I mostly just go shopping in my car, Last one was a 3 Cylinder 900cc so those don't put me off either

      My P85D can be upgraded to a 90kWh battery for $3000 anytime while still under the 8 year warranty period. I will wait 2 years and then upgrade to a 100 kWh battery. No worries here.

      Hello, How much trade in do you get for the old ones? I am talking about when the batteries have to be replaced when they die, Because a lot of times these days it is the labour rather than parts that pushes the price up

    • @clu4u

      Batteries can be swapped in 90 seconds by robot, the Supercharger stations planned to swap for $60, but no demand. I would want my own battery because I am careful to keep it charged 25%-70%
