It’s been two years since this video dropped and it’s still helping ppl like me! The dealership quoted me $250 to diagnose this and disconnect it. I did it myself in 20 minutes
I did it, it helped but now it’s back. Sometimes my car turns on sometimes after driving hours I stop at gas station and it’s dead!!! Jump start and back on the road. My alternator is working because my car stays on after jumping. It’s when I turn off car that the battery is dead..
@@luisfontanez1770 you must have another problem then maybe an old battery or something. I don't really know but the bluetooth link wouldn't leave it dead after just a gas stop.
@@FullThrottleCars I’m gonna check my battery because I jumped that car so much over the last 2 years while that Bluetooth was draining the battery. Maybe I ruined it. A friend of mine fir some reason it was the ac relay but that I don’t know how to diagnose because the ac compressor kicks in. It’s like I know when the car is gonna start. If I open the hood and you listen by the fuse box and put the key in. When u halfway turn the key, I hear a clicking sound coming from the fuse box. If no noise the battery acts dead. If I leave the battery plugged to the jumpsuit cable like I’m charging. I know when it will start. I wait 3 minutes and the click sound hits the fusebox and I tell wife. Start and car starts strongly. I could leave it 20 minutes and if that click doesn’t happen it won’t start. I’m think Battery is weak and maybe only starts my fuse box at a voltage. But I don’t know jack about cars. Just common sense if it applies. I will check my battery for damage
I know this is an old video, but it really helped me out with my TL. I appreciate you taking the time to film the step by step instructions. Thanks buddy
Great video. You are helping tons of people avoid stealerships. In 2012, I had this problem with my TL (had the full technology package). Back then, there were no videos whatsoever. I replaced the positive and negative cable harnesses along with the neutral safety switch, but it still died every 2 days. After extensive research on the web a great person posted a detailed tutorial that pointed out that it was the Bluetooth module above the garage/light switches. He posted detailed instructions and it was a 10-minute fix.
Thank u so much! Asked the mechanic about this a few years back because it was always warm. Went out to the car today and it was dead yet again. Such a simple fix. Took me like 5 min thanks to your video!
I have a 2005 Acura TL and . My battery did the same thing and after taking it to even a electrical mechanic not even they could find out why or what was causing my battery to die. Even the new battery I had bought.4 years later the car lot guy I bought my Acura from told me about the Bluetooth issues and I watched your video and it did fix my battery issues . Thank you
20 minutes, no issues with the disconnect on 2004 TL. The unit was still warm after being off for over 30 minutes. Was having to maintain a trickle charger on the car at night prior after 2 battery replacements to be able to start regularly. THANK YOU!
Awesome. Good work. I have two tl and one came with the free link already unplugged. Got another tl recently and this video showed exactly what to do without listening to 10 years of history. Thanks

Thank you for the video. (I am no mechanic). My battery was having issues starting my acura rl, and then it died. My new battery seemed to work great for a few weeks, and then started to seem like it was barely turning the engine over upon starting it. (I noticed it would seem to have this issue starting in the mornings) I saw this video and removed the Bluetooth unit , and now my acura now fires up great each time. (My hands free bluetooth unit was located in the front passenger side kick panel just on the right side of the legs under the glove box.)
Man, my 06 TL has been driving me crazy with the battery drain. The HFL stopped working a while ago. If this solves it for no $$ I will be indebted to you!

For 09-14 TL the Bluetooth module is buried down in center console. I am about to replace mine but interesting if the Homelink is what is causing the battery drain issues. The homelink module is up in the roof on that generation.
Thanks for making this video I couldn't remember if the bezel was screwed in or snapped in. These TLs are pretty good cars but the blootooth module is a POS, I had to replace it twice and I'm just unplugging it from now on.
Just copped new battery I’m glad I found this video… I will give this a try and definitely lyk what happened. Just to give hope to another individual reading this.
I did this years ago after seeing this video to mine and the battery has worked perfectly, BUT ... now I have my key FOB saying that it cannot link for customization of the settings. I can still open close pop the trunk, panic button, but I cannot access keyless remote settings in the menu. I wonder if the bluetooth has anything to do with that?
Interesting. As far as I am aware mine still works with those functions. I do not believe Bluetooth is how the key customization communicates but I could be wrong.
I’m confused. I have 2009 TL and guy on a different vid showed that the HFL module was down near the gear shift. Is there 2 separate modules? Like an HFL one and a Bluetooth one? Also did the diagnostic trick on my nav screen and it’s showing everything is good/green including the HFL. The mic icon randomly turned red after sitting on that screen for a few minutes. So I guess my question is is there more than one module? Could it still be the HFL module even though it shows good when I ran diagnostics test? And if so, would it for sure be located up top by the mirror like in this vid or is it a he one down low near the shifter?
The 2009 TL is redesigned from the 2008 so it may be in a different location. I just know it is in the location in this video for the second generation TL (2004-2008)
I’m not sure what you mean in terms of running diagnostics. The issue is the HFL module stays on so as far as I know the system functions normally it just doesn’t turn off. If your diagnosis says it is good it still might just be staying on after the car turns off.
That other module is the Homelink like a garage opener. Also someone said the Bluetooth did music. Sadly it was just for phone calls. To get music there are a few Bluetooth add ones. I use the USA Spec module. Hooks into the XM in the trunk and it’s like a aux input where you press the XM button once or twice to switch to it. It also has a aux in too but you would need a long aux cord from the trunk. Works best with phones though and then any music app.
Anyone know which cable is responsible for the Homelink garage opener? I already disconnected the Hands Free link bluetooth module and something is still draining.
@@FullThrottleCars Turns out the homelink is another PCB plugged into the overhead light circuit board. Disconnected it and the overhead lights still work
Very helpful video! Had the Bluetooth disconnected and put back together in 10 minutes :-) Question though, the Handsfree Link still says Bluetooth rebooting, which is what I believe to be the issue in the first place (battery drain). Since the bluetooth module is now disconnected should I assume that the bluetooth rebooting won't be and issue and continue to drain the car battery since the bluetooth module is now disconnected? Thanks again for your video!
Good question. I don't really know. I never hit the bluetooth before or after disconnecting so I am not sure what would happen. My guess is it should be fine and the car is just trying to find the bluetooth system while it is on. But I dont think it should keep trying to reboot when the car is off.
The trick is to disconnect this module with the car ON or a least with the accesory ON… then you proceed to disconnect… thats how then the system will STOP booting… if you disconnect it when the car is OFF, it will for ever keep searching/boosting this module
I am not sure. If it is the same system then it may have the same issue. After you have had your car off for a while, come back and feel the area where the Bluetooth module is. If it is warm then there is a possibility that the module is still running even with the car off. If this is the case then it would be the same issue. You can also probably google to find out if your model had the same problem.
