Comparing the B&T APC to the GHM (What are the differences?)

- This is a video I made to help answer a question I get a lot. Which is better and/or which do I recommend? The B&T APC or GHM? Well, there are many differences and the biggest often cited is the price. So is the quality any different? Do they shoot the same? Are the ergonomics different? Well, these are my thoughts and I do my best to answer all those questions.

GHM 45 is a gem. Got mine 6 months ago with telescoping brace and Obsidian can, Holosun 507c ACSS Vulcan on mount. It is so choice :)

Great review. One thing that I don’t think you touched on is that the GHM9 seems to have been built from the ground up with the aftermarket in mind. The APC9 doesn’t allow you to swap handguards or barrels, the GHM9 does (whether they’re actually in stock anywhere is a separate issue). Plus, the fact that the GHM9’s buffer is on the bolt means that the stock assembly / receiver endcap is so much easier to manufacture, allowing for third party support. If you don’t feel like shelling out $600 for a stock, you could always buy a third party 1913 adapter and throw your preferred 1913 stock or brace on it and come out MUCH cheaper than you could ever get an APC9.
As I see it, the only practical differences between the APC9 and GHM9 are that the GHM9’s charging handle reciprocates, its receiver is slightly longer, and the optic rail sits about 1/2” lower. I wholeheartedly agree with you that the APC9 might be a touch better, but in no way is it $800 better - you put it well in saying that the APC9 is only really worth it if you want to be able to say you own the flagship model.

And then unfortunately today the GHM9 is 1300-1500 and the APC9 is 2500 on the lowest end

I have an GHM Gen-2 with Glock lower, love the aspect of changing to an aftermarket pistol grip..Rainier got a pre-covid time deal for 1200ish ..

Fascinated by both of these and the SP5 - carbines own my interest. I know a lot about manufacturing and you make great points about the different complexities, machining, etc. My guess on the price difference is "MIL-Spec" versus Consumer spec. Just like the SP5 running on the exact same production lines as the MP5, my guess is the APC9 runs on the same lines to the same spec as the SCW9. That would easily account for $1k up charge - your additional payment is buying the Mil-spec.
You are probably right. But also remember that many civilian things are better than the mil-spec stuff.
Thanks for the great review. I actually like the aesthetics of the GHM better. The extra height of the APC makes it look a bit blocky/bulkier. All beautiful though.

Thanks for the info, was really wondering about the differences. Still leaning apc but im also still researching. I only ended up looking at b&t because of the longer barrel but quality is keeping my attention.

Great video, I own both the APC9 Pro Glock model and GHM9 Glock model as well.
When I was doing my research into B&T I thought that I had read that the difference between the two is that the APC9 is full-auto rated and the GHM9 is not. The APC9 was designed to run full-auto, that’s why it was adopted by the U.S. military.
This may be why they are priced differently.
It could be. I think I have seen FA GHM9s though.

I have an APC9K and I'm thinking of switching to the GHM9. The APC9K is very compact, but the issue is that its too compact for my liking. Its hard to get a comfortable grip on it without using a VFG. The handguard is too short for any meaningful attachments as well.
I agree. I always prefer the full sizes in the B&T line.

I recently purchased a GHM9 Gen 2 with the 6.9” barrel. I think the 6.9” has a better look than the 4”, not to mention better accuracy and grip and attachment room.
I bought the telescoping brace with Gearhead Works Tailhook (yikes $600).
As I understand the Gen 2 takes AR-15 replacement grips.

GHM has a better line of upgrade options say you want a SD conversion kit the GHM is way easy - the APC you have to purchase a completer APC9/10/45 as a SD weapon. Other than that from design standpoint they share a 80% parts commonality and this is a interesting point as most departments / agencies/ militaries had specified in requirements requests (should B&T be awarded a substantial contract) those requirements are met.

What do you use to clean your guns? These both look immaculate! I love my APC9 Pro and Gen 1 GHM45. Trying to decide if I need a Limited APC9
I just use basic CLPs and just take a lot to time to get down into all the edges and crevasses.
I think I'm going to go with the GHM9 with the Glock Mag Lower as my go to Truck Gun to compliment my Glock 19 CCW Sidearm!

For both guns would you go with the Glock lower?
I personally prefer the B&T mag lower.
@@1mmotown I personally like the Glock lower only because I carry a G19 or G17 and like the compatibility of having interchangeable mags. To add to that I also did purchase a Lingle Industries lower that accepts CZ Scorpion mags ….

The problem is they sell the APC9 to the government, so they can't drop the price for civilian markets. They are the same quality, different implementation that they wouldn't use for a MIL bid.

They claim there is a teflon coating on the apc and the r&d was soaked up on that model thus the price difference

Dose the APC .223 pro have a softer recoil than the gen 1 ? The way you describe the APC vs the ghm?
I don't think it is supposed to but it does. Both use the same buffer system
Do you think it would be best to get a ghm 45 and then an apc9 SD? I want to get the SD sometime in the next year or so but I found a ghm45 for about 1300 and I don’t have a .45 yet and it seems like a good deal

@@thetexasgunvault the only thing that’s weird is that the mags for the ghm45 are 100 buck apiece even though the regular 9mm mags are I think 35-50 bucks

I am so sorry to hear that. Is it is generation 1? Are you using hollowpoints? Have you contacted B&T?
@The Texas Gun Vault Reloaded second generation, sent it in, and they "fixed" it, and yes, but it jams on flat nose subsonic rounds and jammed on some underpowered ammo which is to he expected. The main jam problem was actually fixed by putting a scorpion lower on it.

My GHM has buzz sawed though ammo and never jammed once, the quality is outstanding

They are very sweet shooting guns.
The APC is made to be carried by Police and other authorities. It's more rugged, the steel is hardened differently and it is designed for full auto. It feels less flimsy than the GHM9. But yeah, if you don't want to spend the money the GHM9 is a valid alternative.
What steel? The upper receiver is extruded aluminum. All of the steel that goes into the bolts is the same regardless of the weapons platform. I do agree that the APC is more rugged and stronger in its design, but I believe the materials are the same.
Does the GHM 45 shoot hollows?
The latest generation does.

Prefer my ghm45. Would still take a real HK SP5K over an APC.

Typically yes, but you can hit targets out much further.

I trust your opinion so I have a comparison I’m in the market for a sub gun I’m looking at either a B&T ghm in either 9 or 45 vs the sig mpx k…. What are your thought and opinions on the 2 would love both but can only afford … I’m looking at value per dollar and parts and or upgrades and I’m looking for dependability

The Sig will have lighter recoil due to the rotating bolt. But the APC is the best of all the guns.

That is a tough one. Both are awesome. I think it boils down to which one you think looks better.
