If I can get it to work, I wouldn't be opposed to livestreaming a Smash Bros. session as Mega Man. I haven't played enough to remember all his moves yet, but Charge Kick would be a pretty obvious choice, yeah.

X1 is so obsolete after all the other X games, mainly because the boots upgrade is... what you already start with in all the others. So exciting.
I think they needed to have that gradual transition from Classic to X; giving you the dash ability right off the bat would've overcomplicated the learning curve, but it was a smart move to make it the default in subsequent games. But yeah, once you see all the upgrades you eventually get, X1 hardly feels like powering up at all.

Ok I'll be the first to admit its really awesome to see you kick the absolute ass of the classic series. But its nice to see some of these amazing fails as well, its a very nice change of pace for little bit.
GeminiLaser you promised us this. When you play x3, I will be expecting a no damage, buster only, minimalist speedrun of that game. If you don't, I will be disappointed (possibly)

+Sam Legler i know this is an old comment but ooh, no dash really puts things into overdrive, dashing in megaman x3 is almost required for every boss encounter. not to mention no extra damage from dash shots

Yeah, doing a X3 Speedrun without dashing is like doing a TAS without using the tools themselves. It pretty much ruins the whole point.

Which do you prefer? Like if you HAD to choose? Classic or X?
Classic, no question. Easy to learn, challenging to master. The core gameplay of X is just a smidge more complicated than I prefer, and the story is generally darker than I like. I still enjoy both, though.

It can be tough to get into! Lots of things to keep track of.
This is one of the things I like about being on GameCola staff with you. I get to hear from you more often and I actually get a relatively first-to-know basis on what's going on and why you aren't uploading and stuff is happening.

I know it's probably going to be a while since you actually get around to the Mega Man X series (it took this long to get through MM1-6 and half of 7!) so I just thought I'd ask, I was playing Mega Man X5 recently (and I just finished it), and I want to know your opinion on that game. Considering it was supposed to be the end of the X series I think it was quite a good "end", of course they did revive the series though in X6 but still.

There was one thing that I kinda hated though and that was that the final levels seemed a little bit overboard with Quickman throwbacks. The first stage is literally Quickman's stage with the Yellow Devil at the end (my two most hated things in the classic series).
The second stage was a nice throwback to the first MMX Sigma castle, but then the third level was... I don't really know, it seemed like quite an interesting level with the boss choice at the end.
Then the last level *oh boy the last level.* I definitly liked that stage, and this is where my complaint about the Quickman throwbacks comes in. The music in that stage is awesome for a final level theme (and for the at the time final stage in the MMX series before they revived it), but it was nothing more than a really awesome, "cyber remix" of Quickman's theme. this is evident during certain bits of the song, and it really bothered me that they went so full on with the Quickman theme for the last few levels.
What is it about Quickman they love so much?
Anyway, I'd be interested in hearing your opinion on X5.
I like X5. I think they got a little overambitious, throwing in the ability to duck and a ranking system and a countdown timer and the virus mechanics. I also think the story got a little messy, or at least the dialogue was occasionally nonsensical; I feel like that might've been a translation issue, though. Some of the challenges are a bit more difficult than fun, too (see: all of Squid Adler's stage). Still, the music is phenomenal, the core gameplay is solid, the bosses and locations are interesting, Zero is at his best in terms of abilities and control, the tie-ins with previous Mega Man games are nice, and I agree that it would've made a good conclusion to the series.I believe Keiji Inafune has stated that Quick Man was intended to be a sort of nemesis for Mega Man, long before Bass. That's why he's got that extra coolness factor and is allowed to have part of his boomerang head stick out beyond the edge of his boss portrait in MM2. The Yellow Devil and the Quick Man lasers are arguably the two most iconic challenges from MM1-2 (perhaps in part because of their infamy), so it makes sense to have them back, but once again the developers were a little more enthusiastic about the concept than the execution-I like the Black Devil fight because I'm a masochist, but the laser section is excessive and unforgiving. I still don't hear even the faintest hint of Quick Man's theme in that tune, and people have been saying that for years.
I do see what you mean by Squid Adler's stage, it took forever just to get past the start of the level and then I found out that I needed all the energy pellets as well, and the locks, god damn I hated those locks. I actually beat most of the game as Zero and it felt perfectly fine, but then when I realised I needed X for some of the items he felt so much weaker than Zero, probably because you have to charge up the shots to actually do a considerable amount of damage. Also the virus mechanic seemed a litte strange to me, if you're playing as Zero all it does is make you invincible and in some situations there isn't enough of the viruses to actually fill up the meter. I still don't fully understand the point of the ranks either, I assume it was to let you know how well you were doing at the game but it just didn't seem right to me. I also know what you mean about the Black Devil fight; it was pretty enjoyable, but it caught me off guard at first. The ducking makes that fight a lot easier though, but that's really the only point where ducking is useful. (Over than Duff McWhalen's stage, but you're forced to either duck or hide in the little holes to get past the laser blasts).
Anyway, time for either MMX4 or 6, which I keep reading is one of the worst.
Yup yup yup. X6 I think is the one you've read is one of the worst; X4 is a fan favorite, at least at last check.

After watching this I downloaded a SNES emulator, and beat Megaman X in about 5 hours

Mine too! Despite not really enjoying the fortress stages that much, but I think that's my problem with the entire X series. Off the top of my head, I'd say Star Wars, X-Men, and...some sort of giant mecha anime I probably haven't seen. Did I miss anything?
***** IIRC, Sigma's first form in X3 is a Captain America reference with the shield thing going on. & you are correct about the first 2 games: Jedi Warrior (Sigma's first form in X), and Wolverine (Sigma's first form in X2).

Poor Green Biker Dude! Yeah, I was surprised by the damage output on that beastie as well. I agree that Barney was funnier; this was a last-minute throw-together video (I had something else planned, but ran out of time for it), but I'm pleased it's as entertaining as it turned out to be.
