  • One of the #1 things we think of when we think of Wisconsin is...CHEESE! And not only was eating cheese at the top of our Wisconsin to-do list, but we also really wanted to see how cheese is made. We found an awesome, small, family run cheese factory called Union Star Cheese that offers tours, but after learning they start the cheesemaking process at 4 AM we had a crazy idea: what if they let us join them at 4 AM to see the entire process? And they surprisingly said yes! We hope you enjoy this video as we get to see how cheese is made and also try some squeaky and fried curds!
A HUGE thank you to Jon and the entire Union Star Cheese Factory team for letting us join you!

We are heartbroken to learn about the passing of David and Jan Metzig 💔😭 We are thinking of the Metzig family and all of those in the community who loved them.

To be perfectly honest with you I didn't think I needed this in my life but I found it very enjoyable as well as interesting and let's be honest who doesn't like cheese

Yes! You made it on a cheese tour. Love your dedication to cheese and to seeking out the smaller, more independent cheesemakers. I loved your nervousness around the squeaking...haha...made me smile. You always know you have fresh ones when you get that squeak. Fresh cheese curds are also DELICIOUS if you warm them up...even for a bit in the microwave. They are also so incredible on nachos. And yes, fried cheese curds are basically Wisconsin's state food, so I'm glad you got to try that too. You'd be surprised at how many different varieties of the fried kind there actually are. Hope you got to try a lot more with your time in the state.

As a Wisconsinite who worked through college in an old-school, family run cheese factory, this video made me so happy. Especially when you got the experience squeaky cheese curds!

That was awesome! Big thanks to Union Star for letting you observe the entire process from start to finish. I've always enjoyed tours of production facilities and seeing how things are made. One of your best videos to date.

We so enjoy watching your adventures. As soon as I saw the Wisconsin cheese making adventures, I knew that I had to share it with my father-in-law. When he was 3 years old, he went to live with his uncle and aunt on a dairy farm in Iowa on the Mississippi River. When he was 16, he went to work in a cheese factory in Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin. He has shared stories with me about making cheese. We watched the video and when they began cutting the curds, he told me that was his job in the cheese factory. My father-in-law will be 95 years old in two weeks. A+K, thank you for putting a smile on his face and bringing back wonderful memories.

OMG I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU MADE IT TO MY HOMETOWN (Oshkosh). I’ve watched you both travel all over the country and to see that you two visited my hometown is crazy to think of. Thank you so much for highlighting and supporting our local businesses!! I hope you enjoyed your time here in America’s Dairyland

Next time, go to the Wisconsin State Capitol. Four of the best fried cheese curd places in Wisconsin, all on Capitol square. We did that tour. Had no room left in our stomach.

Truly a swiss-consin experience. I brie-lieve you picked a gouda cheesemaker. Also see you were able to include some cheesy puns in the comments! Even cheddar than I can come up with! 😂🤣

Besides the care and knowledge by those making the cheese the secret is in the soil and the grass. When the glaciers receded they left specific minerals. I am definitely biased being from WI but the cheese is definitely different than other states by far! Yum! Going up in October. Can’t wait! Thanks for video.
