Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing in 2005 in the"End Of An Era" concert, in Helsinky, Finland, then with Tarja Turunen, the first female singer of the band, together with the bass player, Marco Hietala. This was also Tarja's last concert with the band, she was fired immediately after the show, with an open letter. Bitter-sweet memories..
Also a recent sad news - these days Marco Hietala, the bass player and male singer of the band announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
As I saw you enjoyed this powerful performance of both Tarja and Marco. Hope you'll try some more.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals) - you just heard her. She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile).
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

Curiosity about the concert where they performed "The Phantom" ("End of an era", it was in 2005): Tarja Turunen (the amazing lady singer with a magical otherworldly voice you just witnessed) was very sick during this show with a fever and severe throat infection. She didn't even know if she'd be able to sing that night, yet she did it marvellously, so if this is not the best she can do, just imagine how damn incredible she is at her best!😍
Well, I hope you're planning to react to more of them, you'll be amazed and mesmerized! I mean, they're simply incredible, their music is... God, no mundane word is enough to describe the magnificent otherworldly realm that they've created with their music!!! It's pure magic! Anyway, they had three singers so far (I think other people already mentioned this in comments): Tarja Turunen, the first one and co-founder of the band, who stayed with them from 1996 to 2005; Anette Olzon who sang with them from 2007 to 2012; and now Floor Jansen has been their vocalist since 2013. That being said, I'd like to list down here my suggestions of songs by them with all three singers (not to compare them!!!, just to enjoy the special and unique elements that each of them brought to the band, and feel "eargasms" (😆) from their music in all eras, 'cause they're all equally great artists, just in different and unique ways, and the whole band is incredible). Floor also sings this one perfectly (I'll put here later the link for her performance as well), but I personally love the way Tarja sings it better, I feel like she deeply understands the crucial importance of the instrumentals (especially the epic orchestral arrangement and choir), and the unspoken soul of the song; if you listen closely sometimes it even seems that she uses her voice like an instrument, often blending her sound with the orchestra's, becoming one living soul with the music. It's just so perfect!

Now, since I'm also a Tarja addict😆hahaha, I followed her solo career far more closely and can assure she's been doing a stunning, beautiful solo work too. I just love her so much! Like, her operatic, expressive, strong, dark, powerful yet heavenly and pure voice, and the deep emotional magic she's capable of delivering through her renditions, have always given me more goosebumps all over my body, bringing tears to my eyes with every breath and touching the depths of my soul ❤! I feel like she put an everlasting spell on me since I first listened to her, when I was like 13 or 14! Haha. So... I mean, as such a huge Tarja fan that I am, I must present you with her solo career work, where she shows much more of her inner power imo, plus she has much more freedom now since Nightwish "broke up" with her, she composes and writes her own songs, plays piano, sings however she wants to, and just fully liberates her truest artist soul. It's not mandatory of course hahaha. I mean, you don't need to do any of these reactions if you don't feel like it. I highly recommend that you try some of these though, it's magic:
(Side note: her solo musical style is quite different from Nightwish, even still having plenty of the symphonic metal elements as main references such as some kinds of guitar riffs, the epic orchestral arrangements and her remarkable operatic vocals, but she incorporates aspects of many other styles, AND it's just as magnificent!! I love the fact that she just walked her own path and found her "artist self", never trying to copy or recreate her old days with the band, and I absolutely LOVE the results of her choices, I hope you like it too.)

Here she sings while playing a grand piano, showing some dramatic nuances of her expression and voice, kind of "gothic vibes". She delivers such a touching, emotional and beautiful performance! It makes me shiver and cry every time! I've never seen anyone react to this performance, but imo more people should do it, it's a "forgotten" treasure!

-Since Tarja is a classically trained lyrical singer who often performs in classical concerts, reacting to some of her classical performances would be awesome too, if you have time for it, of course haha, AND if you're into some classical music stuff as well (I love it, I'm a metalhead but also a classical musician, so..... surely I love it😆). Here she shows some super high notes of her soprano vocal range and quite an agility that is really impressive, for her voice has a little more dramatic, heavier and darker timbre, and this in lyrical music world generally means, in short, that the singer (man or woman) won't have so much agility due to some physiological features.

Tarja Turunen "Mein Herr Marquis", if you want to hear Tarja, (you just heard her in her last concert with Nightwish) sing full opera style. She is the original Nightwish female vocalist, 1996 - 2005.
Nightwish is a symphonic metal band from Finland. This was a very good rock style rendition of "The Phantom". Marko Hietala, the bassist, singing the role of the (scary) Phantom, and I love it. His highest note was G5.

I love the voice of Tarja, the woman you just heard. 💖 Nightwish is a Finnish band that emerged in 1996. The group has 9 studio albums, 5 with Tarja, the original vocalist, 2 with Anette, the second vocalist, and 2 with Floor, the current vocalist. The three singers have very different voices and styles, but are excellent in their own way. I would like to suggest one more reaction to Nightwish with Tarja. True story. Initialy Nightwish was a acustic band untill they asked Tarja to sing with them and they had to change to metal because her voice.
Oh no. Gabriel already found this, with his open letter. He refuses to accept that Tarja founded the band and defined the entire genre back then, but there you go.

Ill suggest every song from the end of an era concert(this concert). In particular Slaying the dreamer, wishMaster, ghost love score, creek Mary blood, the siren, wish I had an angel.
Ghost Love Score was the last song of the concert, and Tarja's voice was really spent by then. It's much better to listen Romania or Montral performance. Besides those have the low volume background choir too, End of an Era version has very loud background choir and it drowns the vocalist. I would always choose another concert, except for "Phantom of the Opera" and "Creek Mary Blood".

Not to mention many other good Symphonic metal bands: Within Temptation(Angel, Paradise, Final destination, And we run, try those for instance) you will be amazed by the voice of Sharon Den Adel, pure angelic voice. Try to Sirenia, Xandria(Save my life, The lioness, I'm in love with the darkness for a few honorable mention. Try to listen to Lake of Tears(guy singing) witch sound like Metallica but with a synthetiser(Rainy day away, dystopia, Hold on tight, Head of phantom)......there are many many very good frontwomen singer from other symphonic metal band. Can't mention each other band here.
