I watch these videos with my two girls at night ages 3/4. They call them “grass stories” ❤! Tonight my oldest says, “is that Ryan?” Your a household name. Keep doing you! Thx
This project or at your homestead would be a great opportunity to do an in depth dormant seeding series. I have read everything on dormant seeding and still feel there is a lot to cover, especially what you can do in the spring to increase results. What if I have a really dry spring, etc, etc.
Time of year + ideal weather + irrigation + Elite seeds + straw blankets + 3 weeks = winning formula? Sure seems like it’s a recipe for success. Can’t wait for what this looks like in the spring update!
I’m pleased to see the bare spots because I also have them. You’re a professional and I’m not. Nothing is perfect in the grass growing business. I’m always learning from you. Thank you 😊
This video was super encouraging for me. My renovation with RK Elite TTTF this fall is going pretty well, but I have some patches I am a little worried about because they don't look perfect like some of your grass growing turns out haha. Seeing some imperfections in this reno makes me feel more accomplished and ready to see what it looks like in the spring!!
Keep up the interesting videos , im from Montréal Canada and i love youre 2 channels. Youre my favourite reference for grass maintenance. Thank you Ryan, keep up the good work. Youre fan Marc.
I just mowed my first mow on my Ryan Knorr Lawn Care Elite Perennial Ryegrass stand, dropped a mere two weeks ago (yes I used a light push-reel). I cannot believe how awesome it looks and how fast it came in. That stuff will grow anywhere. Putting down a half-strength shot of EqualizORR this weekend to give it a boost. The Scotts Triple Care worked very well, but fair warning, be careful. Even the slightest over application will bleach your blessed new PRG (for awhile). Anyway, it looks amazing, I cannot wait until Spring when it really hits the gas. thanks so much, Ryan. You da man.
Wow! That came out very well!!! My Overseeding project in my back yard might have gotten hurt. I dethatched. Put seed down. Sprayed with Air-8, tenacity and threw down some fertilizer. We were forecast to have rain Saturday from The Remnants of Hurricane Ian on Long Island. Got about 1/2” Rain Saturday. Kinda misty and drizzle all day Sunday. Then the storm just sat off the coast and it rained almost all day at points Monday until early Evening today. Hope it didn’t completely wash out my work. The forecast originally was just rain Saturday and some Sunday. Not 5 days in a row.
I live in PA. They say for my area fall is the best time to seed. However, I started part of my seeding project in late summer. That part of seeding turned out great. The other half I did in early fall. Temps went wacky (40s at night and low 60s in day). The other half of my seeding project I did at the recommended time (fall) turned out worse with hardly any germination. I’ll be doing my seeding in the summer from now on against what everyone says.
I also live in PA, south central. I had the exact same thing happen. I broke my renovation up so I did not have too much to handle and started late summer to get a head start. My second part started in the fall, mid September, did not do as well. I just assumed my attention to detail waned for the second part, but there might be something much more sinister afoot.
Pennington makes a seeding straw. Sold in bails. It has tackifier in it to stick the seed to the ground. Worked really well on my steep slope. Steeper than this yard and I had a lot less washout.
Yeah I just used that! Was great in some areas and not great in others. I would use a super light layer at the tacking effect is legit after a couple of watering. My new rule is if you can’t see the dirt then it’s to much. Hope this helps someone, I’m a all trial and error rookie!
@@juniorrealtordavesoffice2435 you are correct, I used about half the recommended rate. I need to stop telling people about it or it will soon be impossible to find or the price will be outrageous like Milorganite.
Hey Ryan have a question. When laying fertilizer in places that your pets frequent, what do you do to get the fertilizer down and still be safe for pets? I haven’t been treating my back yard because it’s the only place my dog will pee but want to get a fall treatment down as I am in Michigan
I doubt I'll get a response but, I started renovation my lawn 2 months ago. Killing all the grass and weeds. 3 weeks ago I dropped 1.5 inches of compost on the entire yard. 4 days later the rain rolled in for almost 5 days straight. I now have the opportunity to use a drop seeder and lay grass seed down. But I'm worried that I might have a frost in the end of the month. Thoughts?
Hey Ryan, I did a full renovation in my front yard with Ryan Knorr TTTF and did Ryan Knorr Perennial Rye in the backyard. They both look amazing, but there are still a few bare spots I would like to fill. Do you think it is too late to overseed? I live in Northwest NJ and it has been getting into the high 30s, low 40s at night, with a bunch of overcast / rainy days, so I’m not seeing a lot of growth on spots I seeded over the last week or two.
Check your soil temps. Cool season Grass germinates best with soil temps 50-60 degrees I believe. So day time highs ranging from 60-75. I live on Long Island and we got a lot of rain since Saturday. My soul temp has been averaging 50-65.
Hi Ryan, how would you compare the straw blankets used in this project with the Futerra blankets you've used in the past? Especially on a slope? Thanks!
Hey Ryan. My wife and I just bought a new house. They just finished building it the end of August and have grass seed and straw down already. I'm not sure the type of seed they used. I'm curious what advise you have to prep it for winter. We live in Wisconsin, about 20 min north of Madison for a climate perspective.
Do you have a recommendation on seed blankets to use? The sides of my house are sloped as I have a walkout basement and this fall my seeding didn't go as planned with quite a bit of washout and seed not staying in place.
Hey Ryan! So when you see gaps of sprouting, whatever may be causing it, should you go ahead and overseed or just wait and hope the current seed down eventually comes up? Or even fill in some wash out with some soil and reseed? Just wondering if the first set of seed will eventually make its way out. Thanks!
I'm having issues with a lot of moles after my renovation. I would really appreciate some advise to get these guys out of here and stop them from ruining a successful project. Thanks!

Ryan, if you were to say reel mow this TTTF at 3-4 HOC, would a 5 blade reel be ok? I know you talked in a previous video years back about only needing a 3 blade at higher HOC but the one I want is a 5 blade and I have the same grass and same desirable HOC
I can’t workout who actually installed this lawn. I’ll just be honest, if it was my client paying for that result I’d expect them to be extremely disappointed, and I would be too. Huge areas of almost zero germination, other very patchy areas, tyre tracks and a washout area unaddressed for 3 weeks.
Thanks for the reply. Confusing Ryan, as you continually use phrases “we’re” doing this, doing that, we’ll keep working at it. I’ve been burnt once sharing the job with a client, flat out refuse to work for a client that wants to help in anyway now. Blame for their faults will always end up on your lap. I'm in Eden Prairie, MN, a south west suburb of Minneapolis. I got a late start on my complete renovation. It's bare ground, similar to this property, but roughly 10,000 Sq ft. I'll finally be in a position to seed this weekend, all 100% TTTF, but I'm wondering if it's too late and if I should wait until Spring. Temps are going to drop into the mid 50's during the day, and high 30's at night. I hate to wait for Spring as the rains are much worse than fall, but I'm worried I might be wasting $700.00 in high quality seed. Should I seed now or wait until Spring ??? Thanks.
Hey I am in Eden Prairie as well, just moved start of September( small world). I over-seeded TTTf at the end of September. I wish I had answer for you, however I’d argue I’d you are going to plant this season I wouldn’t wait. You could also try pre-germinating it to speed up the process or maybe plant half the yard now and wait on the other half of you are nervous so you aren’t risking everything. Fescue comes up quick so it’s possible to get it up but I certainly wouldn’t wait
The thing to be concerned about would be that you just don't have many weeks of maturity before possible consistent freezes at night. I think there's no doubt you could get it up and growing but it would just be how much is going to survive depending on the weather. If we had a crystal ball it would be easy but of course the weather is all over the place most of the time so it's just going to have to be a gut decision and know you can fix things either way over time.
Question for you, what if you just have a small sloped areas that are may be 2 -3 square feet max that are continuously getting washout, what should I do about those areas, should I use a straw blanket, because last time peat moss and it just washed out.
You can buy organic seed tackifier and straw mats. The tackifier worked great in my yard. Your can also get someone to Hydro seed the slope as it sticks like glue...

Great results for bare ground seeding! Well done Ryan that’s a big aera to cover.
Would LOVE to see an update in May on this. My front yard is sloped too. Debating the Grand Slam or Fescue on it.
Even the pro gets so much bald spots, i feel much better about my overseeding this year now.
I didn't manage this day to day but some overseeding is no big deal. Good luck with your project!

Hey Ryan, I did a full renovation in my front yard with Ryan Knorr TTTF and did Ryan Knorr Perennial Rye in the backyard. They both look amazing, but there are still a few bare spots I would like to fill. Do you think it is too late to overseed?

Is it too late to seed here in Central Iowa? Give it a shot or wait until spring to frost seed?
Have you tried a tackifier?.... wondering if a straw blanket is better than a tackifier?
Nice, very useful info. Do you think it's too late to seed in Minnesota now?
Hi Ryan, how would you compare the straw blankets used in this project with the Futerra blankets you've used in the past? Especially on a slope? Thanks!
Futerra is best on a slope. They just happened to be pretty expensive and delicate to work with so I use straw in a lot of other cases.
Does straw blankets have weed seeds?
Looks great. Who’s lawn is it and beautiful house!

Is it safe to use ammonium sulfate as my “winterizer?”
My soil ph is 7.2 so don’t mind the drop in Ph. If so, when do you apply?
