Ryan I really want to see you do some test plots of hybrid bluegrass! More people need to know about this stuff!! Spf30 hbg seems to be the best one as of now. Would love to see it!
most years, I want to take one of those power rake machines to my entire lawn 😆
I never get tired of seeing a newly seeded soil projects RK.
Would love to see an update on that Buffalo grass plot. Very interested to see how it turns out
Great Job Ryan.....and Kelsey!!!!!!!
Can't wait to see the results!
My back hurts just watching you.
Respect the production put in here. Great info in a beautiful presentation. Keep on keeping on!
Enjoyed the video. Will be fun to see how it all turns out. Thanks Ryan.
just beautiful
I'm anxious to see the results of that. Thanks!
Hah - Can’t wait to watch! My KBG arrived today!
I’ve seen so many lawn videos from Southern states where lawn care seems easy. I moved to Missouri from Texas and I’m still figuring out this transition zone. It’s much tougher to get my lawn where I want it. So glad to finally find a pro in the transition zone. Hoping to learn from you!
Crossing fingers it doesn't storm now. Lol. That soil @3:15 nice! Thats awesome stuff!
You gotta love the Midwest Wisconsin and Iowa that was missed by the glacier and we got that beautiful silt from the Mississippi River and yes when the ice melted the Mississippi River was several miles wide. I live at the old shoreline where all that dark black sandy just the correct soil compesision required for healthy turf
You can always fill that barrier strip using a 2.5 cubic foot bale of EZ-Straw seeding mulch with tact. Covers 500 SQ FT.
Of course, that's assuming you haven''t had a down pour yet. I've used it with good results.
Getting all that work done, I thought it was time for an ice cold Keystone 🍺 not rain! 🌧 😆
First Aussie 😁. Ryan, it’s all happening on the lawn ranch , great video . 🤠
Coincidentally I have started a renovation of my front lawn using your KBG! I started this project as a result of a new driveway and figured it was a good opportunity to fix some things in the lawn that I didn't like. So i put down some Glyphosate to kill off the grass when the very next day you released your episode about you killing off these plots for a KBG & PRG renovation. I took that as a good sign that I am putting into practice what I have learned from you over the past few years. Now I get to see my results as compared to yours side by side which is really a fun experience.
KBG monostand for the win!
You've had really good results with the straw blankets, cool to see. I was nervous about weed pressure and went with the Futerra blankets and they saved me big time. I had to seed 17k sq ft of Midnight/Mazama in the Spring on a ton of slope and it turned out excellent. The blankets really held everything in place.
And I never see birds are an issue. I may have to invest in a blanket
Oddly enough, I seem to have caught the RK seed planting curse. It's trickled down to central Illinois and hit me. I planted seed a week ago, with only a 20% chance of rain for one day for the next week. I got almost 3 inches in less that 24 hours and rained some every day since!! Good times, good times. 🙃
I’m trying a kgb and prg mix in my yard this fall. My lawn was mostly fine fescue and tall fescue and I don’t like how I have bare spots every year that show up so I’m hoping the kgb pulls through and takes care of my problem in a year or two.
Bluegrass in the blue ribbon ice cream carton!
Thanks for sharing. Iowa soil is great! The Ventrac has been an awesome piece of equipment for your new property.
You're probably tired of seeing me say this, but come to long island sometime and check out the crap we have to deal with for soil!! Amendments are the name of the game here.
I'm undergoing construction at my place, and I'm prepping for a bare ground renovation. You have convinced me to rent a harley rake.
Good idea
On track to do my first ever renovation on 500 square feet with your tall fescue next week. Wish me luck.
Good luck.....hope it works out for you
I've predicted pouring rain in your near future 🤣
A few more plots added. Gonna be green from space
Hey any chance you'll be visiting your old neighborhood? I'm curious what your old lawn looks likes.
Yup almost bet on a heavy rain
is it a good idea to use the same Starter Fertilizer in your description for over seeding with your tall fescue seed? The parts of the lawn we used your seed on last year, look better than every other part of our lawn btw.
I’m pretty jealous of that machine. Lol
I love your content. But a lot of us after having watched your content for so many years would like to know specifics. How long did you turn on your irrigation? How many times a day? what was the exact fertilizer you used? What was the spreader setting you put on your Spiker spreader? For laying down seed. The reason I asked for that is a lot of us are purchasing the equipment that you’re using and we can approximately use the same settings that you use. We don’t like to calculate settings on our own if we’re watching programs like yours. Just food for thought. Love your content. Congrats on the new home!!
Ryan included a link in the video description for the fertilizer.
For watering a newly seeded (or reseeded lanw), know that the goal is to keep the seed moist (not soaked) so that it will germinate. How often and how much to irrigate depends on so many factors including output of the sprinklers, weather conditions (heat, humidity, sunlight, wind, rain), soil type, whether the sead was covered by blankets or something like peat moss. You do not want to let the seed dry out. This might mean watering 2 or 3 times a day or even more in hot/dry conditions where the water evaporates or drains quickly. How long to water in each session could be just 5 minutes or 20 minutes or even more (depends on the coverage and output of each sprinkler head). Here's a link to a video of Ryan's where he explains watering for a new lawn. ua-cam.com/video/vmHGTyjYx2U/v-deo.html
great video's!! my question is fertilizeing lawns with dry or liquid. What do recommend for people with dogs? I know you have dogs wondering what you are doing?
Hi Ryan, i just purchased your KBG and excited to begin renovating. I had a few question tho. I have a problem with nutsedge and crabgrass and bought tenacity and sedgehammer .
1) can i mix the two together with a surfactant and blue dye to check where i sprayed. If no, when can i reapply the other herbicide without damaging the lawn
2)after using herbicide, when can i start seeding? i took a chunk off my lawn bc of the crabgrass so a majority of it is all dirt
3)do you suggest apply fertilizer before seeding or at the same time of seed? and how often should i be applying fertilizer? i live in NY
It’s the Scott’s spreader
Can I completely cover low spots on the lawn and re-seed over was was growing grass (ie without killing the grass in the very low spots)? Thank you
Do you think that it is a good time for lawn renovation for more southern residents? or should I wait for September? :)
Waiting for germination bends time more than a black hole lol
One think I’ve noticed about your lawns. It seems you never have any issues with Poa A , Poa Triv , Bent or any other eye sores popping up. It’s one color, one texture through and through. These “ grassy weeds “ not an issue in your area or do you just have the magic touch ?
I had *excellent* results with pre-germinating KBG this spring. Hard to do at scale though.
What'd you do exactly?
@@soundofsilence21 Connor Ward has a great video on it. If you are interested I would watch it. But here are the basics:
- Weigh out your seed and put it into paint strainer bags
- Cover completely with water. 5-gallon buckets work well. You'll need something to weigh down the seed, as it will float.
- Change the water every 12 hours. Otherwise the water can become toxic, or something.
- When you're ready to drop the seed, get as much water out of it as you can, and then mix it into something dry to spread it with. I used mason sand. I won't lie, this was a pain in the ass.
- Regular overseeding tips apply from then on. Cover it with something, keep it moist, etc.
Rule of thumb is that 1 day of soaking will knock two days off germination time. I soaked my KBG for 6 days and had first germination in 5 more.
@@esond thanks, I started soaking my kbg today, plan on 5 days changing the water twice daily. I was going to mix with milo (equivalent) as a carrier and then add Scott's triple action for seeds. Should I be worried that's too much nitrogen? The carrier is slow release. Top with straw and keep moist.
@@soundofsilence21 personally I would just use the milorganite, it shouldn’t need much just to get established. You can add all the fert you want later.
@@esond the triple action was more about adding weed prevention. Is there a better option?
I've got a kbg and tttf lawn but I want to convert to rye and kbg. By just overseeding year after year, can I bump out most of the fescue?
i am on day 14 of your KBG/RYE mix. Very nervous the kbg is never going to come in.
Can you make a video breaking down your seeds you have on your store. What makes them elite? There are so many cultivars it’s really hard to follow
ua-cam.com/video/khcjQvABIPI/v-deo.html
Ryan and Kelsey’s recipe for rain, grass seed and straw blankets 😂
Missed us last night. Must have been a miracle
@@ryanknorrlawncare there goes your perfect record! I really enjoy all the content from both of your channels. Your new property is breathtaking!
When is the earliest you can kill your yard to start over? Is spring an option?
3:26 People are going to be PISSED lol
Hi Ryan, do you plan a lawn with a blend of KBG and Rye? What would be interesting to see. Like a blend of 70% Rye and 30% KBG.
I have an 80/20 blue to rye plot in the main 6. We sell that one on the website
what did you have your drop spreader set at?
Is the straw mat expensive?
I hold the view that introducing even a minimal 1% of Kentucky Blue Grass (KBG) could lead to it dominating up to 90% of the lawn within a span of twenty years, due to its highly aggressive spreading growth nature. Given KBG's propensity to overpower other grass varieties over time, it's advisable to refrain from incorporating it, particularly for Fescue lawns. Should the need to mix grass types arise, adopting a cautious approach might entail a subtle blend consisting of 95% premium Turf Type Tall Fescue (TTTF) and a mere 5% ryegrass. This strategy, particularly if the objective is to attain a luxuriant and dense Fescue lawn, appears prudent. It's not a Monostand but damn near it.
I haven’t had a chance to watch this video yet. But what do you think about a perennial rye and bluegrass 50/50 split. I live in Michigan and it will be a high sun area!
I had it at my old house and didn't love it. 80/20 blue to rye is preferred if you mix those types
@@ryanknorrlawncare Thank you! I just found you on UA-cam and have binged watched probably 100 videos in the last month! Going to start my fall renovations on September 1st thanks to your videos.
Ryan, living just south of the Twin Cities I often find this time of year difficult to start a reno. The temps for the next week are all in the low to mid 90s. Do you recommend still starting a reno or waiting?
As long as you can manage water appropriately it works great but the evening humidity can get interesting
🌱👍
Anyone know of a good resource/site for identifying issues from a lawn photo?
(A community site or something? I assume this is a thing lawn people do to help each other, since the number of possible issues is overwhelming.)
5:56 Did you share the link for that calculator? I always struggle with elite seed bc there's no seed rates and conversion for Scotts spreaders

What are your thoughts about SUNDAY products ??
👎
Just put down my elite p rye last Friday here in CO. Already tons of little guys poppin up all over, 5 days in!
Is Connor Ward okay?
Is the straw cheaper per sqft than peat moss?
I've found over the years peat washes way too easily so it's not worth the money and effort to do it all over again
I would love to see some more Elite Kentucky Bluegrass. Jacklin is a great company for this and varieties like Award, Everest, Impact, Beyond and more..
This is likely my last plot of blue 😄
@@ryanknorrlawncare I have been following for years and you never really used Elite varieties. It’s probably why your results were not as perfect as you would like.
@@stefanjovovic8695 you mean like midnight, mazama, blue bank? I had award and didn't like the color and also a few others.
@@ryanknorrlawncare Yes something like that. It’s weird you didn’t like Award. It’s one of the best growing varieties here in Canada with a very dark green color. I guess it might be too warm where your from for KB.
@@ryanknorrlawncarewhy is that? I thought you liked kbg?
How much water does bluegrass need
A lot usually
Not first
Not 2nd
Anyone know what happened to the lawn rebel?
RK needs to do a wellness check on CW. I suspect his side hustles/businesses have been a top priority
I don’t know… me too
He pretty much lost his yard due to all the snow and I don't think he had time to recover for his shortened growing season
@@Legendary_UA I thought he killed it off last fall or something, seemed like it was starting to come back this spring in a video
Awesome video. You should have a budget and simplified plot using the equipment the average homeowner would have. Like your early renovation videos.
Clarification! Want to completely cover lawn in very low spots and re-seed over without HAVING TO KILL grass in very low spots before covering with 3-5" of sand/soil mix
I watch and love your videos but seems your always laying a new lawn
I bought a very large property. It doesn't seed itself :)
@@ryanknorrlawncare sorry if that came across blunt lol I was only thinking why are you speeding again apologies for anything I wrote wrong mate
@@sgtpepper8148 no worries! I'm always working on projects and fall stuff usually involves seeding somewhere.
Love your work and your videos my I'd love all land to make a lawn unfortunately I have a tiny garden say 10 ft by 15 four stripes is all I get when I mow 😂
