The biggest issues are what they've removed..no fish interaction this time (feeding, healing, petting), not dolphin training, no aquarium, no island base, no land based creatures to spot, no classical music, the rpg element is completely watered down, quests are pretty much gone. The fish/salvage collectathon is there...but that's about it . The dives (single and multiplayer) are very enjoyable..but they've destroyed the story mode/rpg element and made the game far more bare bones.
I would trade multilayer for everyone you mentioned + few other bits.
It’s crazy to me that after 15 years and at the end of the switch lifecycle, they’re definitely relying on fans of the series coming back. It’s a very small niche of gamers who loved the original two games. That said, it’s so bizarre to me that they decided to cut so many elements from the original formula. I’m not paying $50 for it, despite being a long term fan. I can wait for the sale.
They took the Mario Sports route of cutting features and expecting the addition of multiplayer to make up for it…
I was really hoping it would be more like EO2 but it seems like they’ve cut a ton of feature to the point that it just isn’t worth the price :(
Same, I absolutely adored E02 and was even considering buying the console to play Luminous. But I don't think I will at least for the moment.
This game is perfect for so many people. The only thing it lacks in comparison to the originals is in story and worldbuilding. Sadly this is my favourite aspect of the OG games. That and the side quests. But then again i was never able to experience the core gameplay in a multiplayer experience. Which i feel would fill that void considerably
I'm having a blast exploring in this relaxing Game, I love this game so far
Some outlets really are trashing the game for what it is not: A realistic survival simulation. This is not Nintendos Saubnautica. The game isn't even far from being full priced (paid 45 Euros for the boxed copy). I have no real ties to the older games but always wanted to "dive" into the series and currently having a blast, and I'm not even playing Online. It's one of those very obscure series Nintendo owns and it's made for an even smaller audience. Maybe my biggest surprise with Another Code that Nintendo brought those forgotten series back.
Couldn't agree more. Ppl r mad it doesn't have suspense. Its ridiculous to downgrade a games score for something it's not even trying to be. Endless ocean is a relaxing experience...nothing more Nothing less. Got my copy and can't wait to dive into it tonight. Also, if u r enjoying this game I fully recommend trying out the wii titles. They are amazing
The problem is the game doesn't seem to be a good Endless Ocean. Endless Ocean 2 was deeper than the first one (sorry for the pun). It had more gameplay elements, various biomes, various NPCs in its story... Luminous is shallow even when you compare it with the first one on Wii ! It's so sad.
The problem is that they’ve cut those features that WERE there in EO2. The reviews are justified in that regard.
@@andreworders7305 they didn't cut them....if it's a new game . If it was a remake or remaster and it wasnt there....then they cut them. But this is a new game so...they didn't cut anything. They decided to focus on something else. Like multi player. That's like saying giving the 2nd game a bad score since u couldn't add ur own music to the game. It's ridiculous. Esp when this game added a 30 player multi player . But whatever....can't make everyone happy lol
I haven’t seen anyone say that.
And even then, inaccurate criticism does not void justified criticism.
What I HAVE seen is people saying the game simply lacks content. The game clearly lacks polish, and surprisingly doesn’t look that graphically appealing, not to mention the use of ai.
It’s clearly *not* on the level of its predecessors. It lacks their soul.
What this game and its predecessors are what I call ‘therapeutic games,’ games that encourage you to relax and take your time with exploring.
This game is exactly what the original is. You just swim around and check out the environments and creatures. I enjoyed the Wii versions so I’m excited to dive in. It’s not a day one for me but it will be add to my wishlist.
While I do find the removal of past features from the Wii games very unfortunate, I'm still getting what I wanted out of this game: sheer relaxation, no real challenge and a beautiful environment to go through (very beautiful game, too!). And the online is a very welcome touch. The price point is however a tad too high for what it is, I agree too. I bit the bullet and don't regret it, but for many others, I'd say wait for a sale.
Do we know if they plan to add content post-launch?
I want to check out this game, but it seems a bit too pricey at the moment for what the game is. I’d love to just relax and swim around finding fish, but not for $50.
Ikr, I don't even get all the hate, that it has no story, 'iTs NoT LiKe ThE oRiGiNaL EO' idk what or how classic Endless Ocean was but this looks very nice. But I'd rather watch an ocean documentary in 4k than this for 50€ so I'm kinda waiting for a sale too sadly.. I'd really like to experience the wonders and vastness of the ocean myself too tho ...
I'm over 100 hrs in, still loving the game! (Didn't play EO2.) The "story" is aweful, and I HATE the AI, but exploration is addictive. I'm so glad there isn't any "danger", time limit (solo), or air gauge to keep track of. Finding the last few fish, tags, and mystery board entrys is challenging. I hope they do more events, while people are still playing, as the first one was fun.
4:35 Dang, Violent J really let himself go.
is there multiplayer with random players or just friends?
You can play with random players 👍
After several hours of gameplay, I have to say that I'm a little disappointed. There are a lot of missions and options missing from Endless Ocean, a lot has been left out. I think that's a shame, the story is also progressing very slowly for me. You now have a huge sea and no longer have several areas like fresh or salt water, in this game everything is somehow in one sea. The fact that you have photo assignments or collecting orders to earn money is also missing here. I haven't spent any of the money on this game yet, I just don't need it because you can only choose different colors for your gear (not even different styles). The colors are all too bright for me. Exploring is fun, but even if you see a special fish now, it no longer stands out as much. I still remember in Endless Ocean 2, for example, how the giant shark was presented... here in this game it just swims around randomly. Interesting locations such as the Crystal Cave are also missing here. There is a big ruin or the same sunken ships and that's it. The side missions are always the same (swim to the orange area and find a specific fish there). No own reef or the possibility of equipping an aquarium like in the second part. I have now fully explored 5 free maps and can now continue with the story. Hopefully it will be a little more versatile💪🏻 but it's very good for chilling and switching off.
It’s literally just a relaxing game for fish and ocean lovers. Some of these reviewers had wild expectations. One even criticized for no combat.🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
We're big fans of the originals so we knew what we were getting into. Though I do miss Nineball Island ;)
The second game had combat, an aquarium, you could play personal music in the first game using an SD card, you could also touch the fish, feed the fish, interact with penguins...
After playing a bit, I found it fun, but definitely very not great. It's incredibly overpriced and underwhelming. The lack of being above ground is very stupid in my opinion as in previous titles there were times above water. How hard could it be just to not be able to swim to the surface of the water and poke your character off the surface. For the downgrade from previous titles, I rate the game 2/5 which is incredibly low but the game is fun for what it is, but I wish I did not buy it.
@@JsYTA there was no combat, a bit of "shooting" at sharks but you took no damage getting tail whipped by a shark and you can't die. You could just avoid dangerous animals in most cases as well. I also hated that aspect of the second game, one of the few things I like about this 3rd game is they returned to the "no creatures are dangerous" mindset of the first game. I don't want stuff getting in my face knocking my character around, I just want to explore and look at fish.
@@SohiHien the wii games still did a better job in the simple act of exploring and looking at fish. The movement with this one feels robotic, and there are no pointer controls to interact with fish.
The thing is this game really doesn’t feel like an endless ocean game. I grew up with EO2 and played countless hours finding all the fish, treasures, and gaining enough pelagos to reopen the cavern of the gods. Just the whole vibe of having a team of divers go on an adventure across multiple different seas, meeting up at the island or aquarium, unlocking all the different diving gear. It’s just not here at all. The controls feel different too. Never would I find myself wishing a game had floatier controls, but here I am. And yea, I get that this is more laid back and doesn’t intend for the creatures to be dangerous (even though they added Thanatos and multiple large, dangerous marine reptiles), or have scary situations, but that’s also something EO2 excelled at. When I play subnautica, I’m afraid that a leviathan will kill me. When I play EO2, I’m afraid I’ll find something in the depths that I shouldn’t. This game had so much potential to expand on a bigger story, have more unique designated areas to explore (rather than one big randomized area), have a campy yet endearing cast of characters, and have more secrets to find. Seriously, I was shocked when I started to find many of the named mythical creatures from EO2 within the first hour, having done absolutely nothing. I remember having to do puzzles and waiting for full moons and following birds across the world to find certain creatures. I don’t know. This game is certainly its own experience, but it seems far from an endless ocean game…
I will buy this but I’ll wait for a sale or discount.
I'm thinking that might add to the game later. Probably some dlc. Still gonna get the game. I never played the first two games. I didn't have the systems when they came put originally. Its just Pokémon snap but with fish, and seems to be more simple. Thats not a bad thing. Sometimes yea just want to hang with the fishes.
The 1st game is awesome u can add ur own music to the game. The 2nd is good too but u can't add ur own music. But the 2nd one does add some suspense. Each game including this one(the 3rd In the series) have their own special touch...this one being multi-player.
Fishes dont even swim away when i get close to them. The sharks are not even scary. And my oxygen tank seems endless. I guess i prefer dave the diver where i keep count of my O2 as well as fishes attacking me sometimes while others swim away. I wish they could make features like having and o2 refilling area or fishes attacking or swimmin away to make it difficult to scan the fishes. But its chill and im still in the fence if its worth it for the 50 bucks.
- much less voice acting
- no above water areas
- no more aquariums
- less story
- no custom music
:/
No voice acting. It has a ai speak and nothing else. The other diver character just gurbles like... "ugly bubbles" is the only fitting description.
Does it have an oxygen meter?
no
You can't get out of the water........ So no
Thanks, I just thought there might be a system where you had to reach the surface in a certain amount of time like in some other diving games
@@Nickleotidethere’s no rush for reaching the surface, but you are limited in time for each dive. It’s one hour iirc.
There is no oxygen meter, no upgrading your gear, nothing like that.
I've been loving this game!! Exactly what I wanted. Took me back to the two old game 🥰🥰🥰
As a fan of both Endless Ocean games, this is just a massive disappointment. There's no reason for the last title to have more content on it than the new one. Wii game to a switch game.
It’s hard to not be disappointed, the Wii games did more in a few ways…
I've only managed to play with like 4 to 6 people maximun and they are all Chinese or Japanese or korean, same thing
What’s the goal here?
Hmmm. So it’s just swimming and checking out fish? Interesting
Doesn't look any different to the original wii games even in HD, if you enjoy diving games I would recommend beyond blue, yes it got mixed reviews but as a diving experience it is really immersive
The game is good for those who never played the old ones before. Endless ocean 2 was such a perfect game, just kinda short but it’s normal due to the time. This new one sucks, sharks don’t attack you 🤡. The maps doesn’t seem to be realistic. Endless ocean 2 was scary at night, you didn’t know what could show up while ure diving
how is sharks attacking you a plus? I'd rather no attack!
@@sandiego2380 the atmosphere of the game gets more intense knowing you can’t go around without paying attention cuz a shark might attack you
@@Ayxancatchem which I hated! I don't want this game to be intense lol. The one thing I like about the new game is they went back to no attacks from sharks.
If this game was like 20 bucks I'd be all over it. $50 it seems like an expensive tech demo aging hardware that strips away all of the features that made the last one a fully-fledged gaming experience never mind just doing more with the fantasy and fascination of under see expiration and studying marine life
It's clear they think multiplayer is going to be what keeps this game float. But even that is pretty limited in interaction
What the f what the f let’s go, bro !!! Finally finally finally welcome endless ocean 3 aka Endless Ocean Luminous
I hate how many reviewers are comparing this to Subnautica. This is not supposed to be Subnautica!
EXACTLY! If I wanted Subnautica, I'd play Subnautica. I don't want to play a survival game *at all*. I want to play an exploration game!
I don't see any reviews comparing it to Subnautica. I do see it being compared towards Endless Ocean 2/Deep Blue. They took away a lot of things you can do in the series.
I personally am very very disappointed in the game and agree with most of the reviews calling it disappointing for a Endless Ocean game.
@@PestilentAllosaurus I saw several compare to subnautica or abzu and being upset there is no battle mechanic or dangerous creatures. Of which I am VERY happy about. I hated the attacking sharks in the second game.
It's such a cool game but why in tf is it $50, so many more people would buy it at $30.
This would have been a great free game for NSO. Nintendo could update it periodically and add micro transactions and the player base would stay active for a while, I think.
People can trash it all they want along with the sucky reviewers I say get the game experience it go in blind it’s about exploring and channeling your inner child ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I did. It's extremely disappointing. It doesn't feel like a Endless Ocean game at all.
I fully agree with the disappointing reviews.
Not worth the time OR money.
First thing I did was turning off the voice audio, that voice was so bland I don’t think it’s human. My first impression was the same though, missing the story bits and charm of the first Endless Ocean on Wii. I would consider this an interactive encyclopaedia first and hardly a game. It could have functioned like a nice screensaver when zoomed in on a fish if it wasn’t for the constant overlay of the user interface (*see edit). Would have been great if the game just showed the image and simply returned the user interface after a button press. The random items to collect are so random they just seem pointless. Visually it’s fine though. The first view on the Whale Shark was impressive enough to stop and watch. It’s a game that exists and can keep you busy but I feel it misses a lot of the charm of the first game. Of course this is after I’ve played for about 3 hours and not have tried the multiplayer. So maybe there is still some fun to be had. That voice though…. 🥱
*Edit: There is an option to turn off the interface when swimming or watching a fish by pressing the minus button, but it needs to be pressed everytime. Wish it was the other way around. Still it can be used as a screensaver
Good to know you can turn off the audio, I’m hoping to get this game in a couple of weeks so watched a playthrough of chapter 1 and wow that voice was annoying.
It's not human lol. It's an AI voice and it says as such all the time in the game. Your main companion for the game is Sera, the AI voice.
@@SohiHien well awesome, doesn’t change my opinion though. It sounds boring af
