Thank you for taking the time to show the bleed through so i could understand. It turned out beautifully. I like it being a bar cabinet in keeping with the "dancing music" vibe of the original piece.
Thank you! It was a pain but worth it in the end!
Great save and kudos to dad for his sharp eye!!
WOW What a good find in the dump no doubt. I'm just now at you stripping the top and cleaning it. Its beauty is already showing.
My God, you can fix almost anything. This piece looked hopeless. The end result is very stylish.
🤣🤣🤣 thanks Rositsa!
Challenges, not a deterrent for you, thank goodness. Nice solutions. Hope somebody now has just the right cabinet for their items. Good work. Encouraging to us to try something a different way. Thanks.
Thank you Nancy! I’m too stubborn to let a piece of furniture win! 😂
I really love this piece. It does indeed make a great wine (or whatever) bar. I love the colour. Well done.
Thank you Chanda! This one sold pretty quick too!
Your Dad has a good eye! It came out great. 🙂
Thought the piece turned beautifully, loved the color combinations and the wood tones. Made a great bar cart. As a long time woodworker liked the repairs too. For getting out scratches and other small defects try using a hot iron over a damp rag to steam the defects out. Just don’t stay in one place too long.
That’s a great tip! Thank you I’ll have to try that out!
That is beautiful... imagine it at the dump!!
It's gorgeous. I can't believe that came from the dump.❤
Thanks Kathy!
What a find at the dump. It may have been a pain in the neck but it did turn out absolutely beautiful.
Thank you Stella! It was a pain for sure! 😂
I love it! You literally saved this piece from the dump and reimagined it for a new purpose in someone's home. Awesome job!

Thank you Wendy!
Wow! Beautiful!
Thanks so much Veronica!
I like that! I could so see it in my house!
😁😁😁
Hi, this is my first video of yours, and I must say you have honored this piece's original look. I wasn't sure about the color but seeing it with the walnut stain sold me. It has a stately feel and the sprayed hardware couldn't look nicer. The door pulls are another great addition. That sure was stubborn mahogany but it looks amazing now. The inside details are very cool too. After living with furniture like this years ago, it's fun to see it given a new life. Your multi skilled talent is on full display. It's a beauty!🌷🌷
Thank you! That’s so kind of you to say!
It’s absolutely gorgeous!

Beautiful work! This video is so satisfying to watch, and the result was beyond what was in my imagination... I especially loved how you've put so much attention to details, like the patterned paper on the backing 😍 This is really inspiring.
Thank you so much! 🥰
Wow... That mahogany is tough stuff!!
But you did a spectacular job on bringing that piece back to life!!
Ok, 2 questions for you...
1. How do you research the year of the piece and how did you find that ad?
2. Do you add water to Melange paints?
So the makers plate with the model number and all that info was still on the piece so I popped that info into Google and found out all the info that way. Then switched my search over to google images and found the add that way. I only add water if it’s thick. The lighter colors tend to be thicker because they have more primer in them. For the darker colors I usually just mist my brush to keep it damp and I’m good to go.
Nice job! Too bad they don’t have a tinted shellac for darker paint finishes.
It's beautiful...but questioning whether or not 5 coats of primer was really necessary if you ending up painting it a med-dark colour. Obviously if you had left it white or painted it with a pastel, but from my experience...it wouldn't have shown through if you paint it darker colours. But really nice job otherwise.
Thank you! So I’ve painted mahogany an extremely dark gray after priming in the past and it still bled through and showed the wood tannins even with the darker color so I didn’t want to take any chances with this one.
@@UniqueUpcycles hmmm it must depend on the stain that was there previously.
Very well done beautiful piece
Thank you Michael!
Great job, lots of time and effort paid off! How many coats of paint did you need? I’ve used Melange paint a few times and find it kind of thin. I like the colors and finish just think the coverage can be thin. I like that color, may have to try it! Thanks.
Thank you Kim! I did 2 full coats and then half a coat for touch ups. I usually do 2.5 to 3 coats on all my pieces with the exception of yellows and reds. Those tend to need more.
Wow that was truly a transformation! You really showed that piece who's boss. Sorry that it had to be mahogany, the worst bleeder there is. The finished piece would've been hard for me to let go of after all that hard work.
Jo
Thanks Jo! This was definitely a tough one!
I see these radio cabinets all over
Marketplace here too. I'm not skilled enough to take one on.
Question why do you prime, If you are painting it a darker color?. Would you still see the bleed through otherwise ?
Hi there! Yes you can still see bleed through on dark paint. Especially with mahogany wood. I’ve painted a piece dark charcoal gray in the past and was still able to see the bleed though. Honestly I prime 99.9% off all my pieces. I’d rather just do it first to be sure instead of trying to fix it later.
Wow, that's crazy. 5 coats! Thank you for your reply and keep up the good work. All these good tips are super helpful.
I love it. The color is perfect! Did you sell it or keep it? And, ummmm…you and Ashley are still coming to Michigan, right? LOL🤣🤣I think I better tell her I’m planning this!😆🎊😘❤️😘❤️
We gotta start making the big bucks on YT before we can! 😂
🤣🤣🤣 I’ll be selling it!
@@HensonHomeFurnishings Well, you’re both on your way! 🙏😘
@@UniqueUpcycles You go girl! I could never redo furniture, I’d want to keep every piece!❤️❤️❤️
Awesome! How did you end up getting rid of all the scratches on the top after you sanded!
There were still a few but I left it as having character. I just slowly worked my way up through the grits to feather out what I could without blowing through the veneer.
@@UniqueUpcycles thanks
Wow what a wonderful transformation🙌🏻🌟 I’m curious do you use the primer that is with shellac in it? 5 coats of primer and a coat of shellac I think I would have lost my mind...lol With Mahogany I would start out with 2-3 coats of spray shellac before priming.....easier for me to spray then roll on that sticky stuff. You did a great job....thank you for sharing 😊kim
Thank you Kim! Yes I did use the primer with the shellac in it. I was close to losing my mind on this one! 😂
What you have used here is a random orbital sander, NOT an orbital sander!
When you use a caulking gun to fill gaps, you will find better results by pushing the gun rather than dragging it.
When applying varnish (or paint for that matter) apply across the grain so you fill ,the grain then brush off along the grain, so you get a better result and a fuller grain. This was a technique taught to me by a professional painter.
@@keithhaycraft3765 thanks for the tips!
Beautiful, love the color... awesome job.
Thank you Lydia!
Love it ❤️❤️❤️
