I was watching a Mel Brooks interview years ago and he was asked about a Spaceballs sequel. His answer made me laugh so much. He said " I don't make 2's, but If there was another movie it would be Spaceballs 3: The search for Spaceballs 2" 😂

      He should make a prequel.
      Spaceballs -1: The Inconvenient Menace
It could feature Al Gore discovering the Spaceballs plans to extract air from Druidia, and fruitlessly attempting to warn the universe about it.

Rise of Skywalker gives a lot of good material for the suggested title for Spaceballs 2 (The Search for More Money) in universe though.
      "Somehow Palpatine returned"
      "How?"
      "Merchandising merchandising metchandising"
      "and getting butts in seats"
"well ok I guess those are good enough reasons for me"
      It's HILARIOUS!!!

@Akilleus The thing is that some people get really offended or triggered when there's a movie poking fun at what they did or that reboots something they did (just look at what's going on with Ghostbusters). I mean...granted, that's more of a recent trend then anything. I'm sure that if Boris Karloff had lived to see it, I bet he would've enjoyed Young Frankenstein.

One of the thinks about Young Frankenstein that not many realize, is that Mel Brooks did not write it -- Gene Wilder wrote it. In fact, Gene Wilder spent years failing to convince Mel Brooks to produce and direct the movie.

That's not true, they wrote it together after Wilder pitched it to Brooks while shooting Blazing Saddles. They ended up being released in the same year. What Wilder had to convince Brooks of was the "Puttin' on the Ritz" number.

After four decades of people loving Star Wars to death he's heard pretty much everything ten thousand times over. We should consider ourselves lucky he still puts on a happy face when people talk about it. I'm just glad his voice acting career took off, largely thanks to Batman the Animated Series. Though Star Wars was a big part of my teen and preteen years, when comparing minute to minute I've actually gotten more entertainment value from his voicework than anything he's done for Star Wars.

    • @Baulderstone1
      @Baulderstone1 4 роки тому +11

Mel Brooks is also better when he is making fun of things that he cares about one way or another. Young Frankenstein is great partly because Brooks loved the Universal monster movies. He's good at mocking both Nazis and show business in The Producers because they are both things he feels very strongly about. Spaceballs is fine, but Brooks just doesn't care enough about Star Wars for it to be one of his best movies.
I got to meet Mel Brooks once, and he was exactly as funny and charming as I hoped.

    • @lespauldisciple3349

Adam: Are aware that 'Young Frankenstein' was totally Gene Wilder's idea. Mel got involved when the studio asked him to take on the project.

I saw spaceballs first as well, not consciously, but when I was very young, probably saw the original movies as a child as well, but also too young to recall. So when I got into movies at around 14 or so year old I watched the original movies, but I had this visceral memory of Darth Vader and Luke fighting each other with lightsaber rings and one of them losing it. So when it didn't happen I had this intense feeling of the Mandella effect until I finally saw space balls years later and had it click.

Re-watched Spaceballs last week and I gotta say it's actually a gem. It's aged amazingly well, better than most of Brooks' other movies -- including the Rocky 5000 joke, which gets even funnier every 3-4 yrs and another Rocky somehow comes out with Stallone in a wheelchair with dementia or something. The merchandizing jokes get better with age too, as we watch Disney find new ways to ruin Star Wars in the effort to merchandize it. It's actually moved up my list of Mel Brooks favorites, right in toe with Young Frankenstein and the Producers.

Regarding Mel Brooks, I didn't realize how old he was until recently. Following the death of Henry Kissinger, I Googled a bit to see if there were any other living celebrities who had fought in WW2...
Mel Brooks turned 18 in 1944, and then headed off to Europe. D-Day had already happened before he got there, but he was involved in the Battle of the Bulge. Like most WW2 vets I have heard relating their stories, he was decidedly modest. Yes, he acknowledged that he saw combat in the Battle of the Bulge, but he was then quick to point out that he was nowhere near the area where the worst of the fighting was.
Even if he doesn't want to be described as a hero, and he only played a small role at the end of the war, he is still part of the reason why the Third Reich ended and the Holocaust death camps were shut down. That makes him a hero in my book, and then he also made many great movies too.
