This is by far the best video an amateur golfer cam watch and start to get good at golf very fast with practice
Thank you---I like these ones as well :)
Nice. No one teaches the game of golf as clearly as you. Can't wait to try that alignment stick through the range bucket drill.
Appreciate it Dave! Hard to go wrong with these drills....unless you're in the small percentage of golfers who hook the ball too much!
Your observations of the common flaws have really hit home for me. Also appreciate that you are not afraid to repeat the essential changes that are needed.
:)
This is really good stuff Eric, and I personally have never met or seen a coach cover these things in such detail, and answer the questions that people will in reality ask.
Appreciate it my friend!
I Coach a High School Golf Team, this will help some of my new players...…...Thank You so much
Happy to help!
Great drills! I had immediate positive results. I will use these drills in every practice session.
Love to hear it, Michael!
Wow this really helped instantly! Haven’t played in a few months and my swing was off. I feel really good about my swing now. Thank you!
Love it Brooks! These are good basics to work!!
Turned in a 86 after starting back up a month ago. Was barely breaking 100 last month. Thank you for your drills but especially this one.
My pleasure!
Wow. I’ve watched countless videos and this is the first one I’ve seen in a long time that I think can help. The face down of the club i e had no idea about. I thought I had to open the face.
Hope it serves you well, Jeremy!
Probably the best series of drills I have ever been given.Took them to the range today and hit the very best clean, straight strikes... ever. The other benefit is the hanger drill automatically set my wrists in the right positions. Hope I can take what I've learned today to the course next week. THANK YOU ERIC!!
MY pleasure Ian...whether it shows up on course next week or not shouldn't guide your future work ( I understand what you're saying) but its an important part. Keep working it n matter what and adjust accordingly.
@@CogornoGolf Not to worry, I won't abandon these drills (or your other teachings) because of a bad round or two. I understand I have to ingrain these drills in muscle memory
Amazing lesson- this is are year guys - breaking 80 - thank you - Keith
Thanks Keith! Hope this one helps your game! :)
Excellent teacher. Very clear instruction and easy to do drills!
Appreciate it! Hope they help!!
Always love your content. Swinging the club better then ever thanks to you. Wish you would post more on putting and chipping.
Thanks, Courney!
You are the best coach on youtube i don`t miss your videos thanks you
Appreciate it my friend :)
Simple yet necessary… thank you 🙏🏼
You got it!
You have earned yourself a
New sub. I’ll also be recommending your channel to all my friends who play. I’ve only been playing for 9 months and my best score is a 101. I struggle with a 75 yard slice that still goes 250 and fatting a lot of iron shots
Love it! thanks for being here! Keep watching and hopefully these videos will help.
If you have the slice I would watch the "draw" videos, best practice station I've ever seen, how to use the hands in your swing.
you need to get that face square first
Really like the self talk routine for every swing doing the drill.
Has to help reinforce the purpose of this swing practice.
Yessir!
1) Grip with Vs pointed to the right collar bone.
2) In the takeaway, tilt the club face down (I think of this as a slight reverse “motorcycle throttle” with the left hand).
3) At the apex, keep the club face tilted down and left wrist flat.
4) Swing under the alignment stick.
5) Follow through with the right hip.
You mentioned the tip of the alignment rod should be about 3”-4” in front of our toes. How far should it be behind the ball?
Sorry if you’ve covered this in the previous 139 comments, but at 6:57 I don’t understand the second “…keep the face tilted down…” at the apex of the swing. I mean, I think I understand keeping the left wrist flat, but how is the club face “tilted down”?
You got it
Tilted down = toe in front on the heel
Explaining tilted down....toe in front of heel here:
ua-cam.com/video/vFOo53zgcLs/v-deo.html&pp=ygUbRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIHR3aXN0IHRoZSBmYWNl
Really excellent instruction. Thank you!
Appreciate it! You are welcome :)
Great Lesson, love the under and rotate(anti OTT)
Thanks!
Really great initiative to improvise and save money..
Yes!
Thanks for this video really helpfull.
Tried hard today on my training recorded session, need some ajustments for the next one :) not close to perfection steal have open faces a little bit, execution felt off here and there, I know with the feedback that the next trainning session not gonna be the same and I know why ! Good to be on track again.
Yessir! smart practice....keep building that habit!
Very easy very good drill - ball going dead straight now - love these tips
Love it!!
camaro dave When you are in your stance how far to the right do you place the stick? I know he mentions that it should be just off the toe line but I’m not sure how far to the right to place it. Thanks!
Another great lesson. Thanks !
Thanks, Orlando!
Should I alter grip if my left wrist does not supinate normally? I broke my left wrist many years ago. Love the drills.
Hey Les! I would have to see to say for sure....but if you cant supinate as much then strengthening left hand grip is an option, yes.
Wish you here in the Philippines here there are not any good golf pro's in Davao, great drills Erik
Maybe one day we will visit!
I really enjoyed the video.
Just found your channel. Really struggling with my golf. Over the top , big slice. I'll give this a try
Glad to have you....what you really need is that draw station....search my name and how to hit a draw" and you'll see the station with the 2 sticks. That will fix
Eric Cogorno Golf thanks I'll have a look
great vid Eric! complete and easy! gracias!!
Appreciate it!
Outstanding drill.
Thanks, Dennis!
Nice drills! Can’t wait to give them a try tonight. Really love your channel and instruction. Easy and not complicated instruction. Great stuff. 👍🏼
Thanks, Ray! Appreciate it!
i dont mean to be so offtopic but does any of you know a trick to log back into an instagram account..?
I stupidly forgot my password. I appreciate any help you can offer me
@Cain Prince Instablaster :)
@Kaysen Graham i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now.
Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
@Kaysen Graham It worked and I finally got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thank you so much you saved my account!
Fantastic video. Thanks
Appreciate it!
What angle and how high (in terms of the body) should the rod be?
Just above the club when you pose it parallel to toes....top of stick just above club. You should be able to see...watch again closely.
I loved this drill, but most of my shots are going left now. What could explain this?
LOTS of micro things could explain it. I would have to see to say for sure...
GREAT drills!
Agreed :)
Eric..any drills for mishits like fat or toe but for someone who swings on plane?
Yep---search my name and "fat" or hitting behind the ball
@@CogornoGolf thanks as always.
Nice tips Eric..
Thank you :)
Fabulous- Thank you
You are very welcome :)
Love this. But if you gonna close the face that much on P2 do you have to swing in to out? If I come a little bit out to in its gonna be a fade/slice or a pull?
Depends on your angle of attack and release pattern...see what happens for ya and adjust my friend
I need to talk to myself more! Great drills
YES!!!
Great tips...as always. For clarification though, how far back from your right leg do you place the bucket/stick?
1/2 to 3/4 down the shaft when you post the takeaway
You're a different coach to most I've seen Eric, and this is another example. Great video. Can I ask, how far away from your hands do you set up the alignment stick for this drill. Is it halfway along the shaft, 3/4 along the shaft, down by the hozel? I ask because it's hard to tell dtl.
Also, you say that your personal preference/feel is that your R/side goes through. Is this 'feel' an alternative to 'turning the L/hip behind you' to clear the hips or is this something else? Finally, do you try and push your R/side through, and is it directly towards the target or somewhere else?
Many thanks
James
Thanks man! Appreciate it!
1. 1/2 to 3/4 down the shaft
2. Yes-alternative feel to do the same thing
3. Yes-after you turn
@@CogornoGolf Brilliant, thanks Eric.
Regards
James
Good stuff Eric.
Thanks!
Eric how do you feel about the one plane swing vs. two plane? You're a two plane right?
Lots of good players who do both by their definition of "one" vs "two" plane...
Should this be done for the driver also?
Yep
Vintage Eric
👊👊
Hi Eric - Do you think that there needs to be some extra mental "steps" to make movement-constrained drills like this stick? I have been taking lessons and working on my out-to-in path quite a bit using the alignment stick, probably 1000 balls by now. I can hit beautiful draws at the range, so much so that it's perplexing to see that shot shape, and the moment you take that stick away - fade machine. I feel like it's never going to happen. Also, do you think it's required that your face is aligned with your spine at P2 (mine is basically vertical) if you make sure flatten out or flex the wrist at the top?
You need to hone in on what you FEEL with the stick.....then. when its not there.....feel that same thing, but exaggerate X1000000 when its not there
-No on face....thats ideal but not required
@@CogornoGolf Thank you, I'll give it a whirl! Thanks for all that you do.
How far off the right foot should the alignment stick be? Thanks!
Not far
I see the club face closed at parallel but at the top it does not look it ..... But I would like to ask what are the advantages of shallowing the club as apposed to coming down to steep as far as ball striking ... Is it compression swing speed just more reliable .... I need a reasonable reason so that my brain will automatically shallow the club instead of fighting over the top
1. Yes exactly....tilted down at parallel is just square....so its square at top
2. Shallowing-speed, angle of attack, contact, height, face control, ability to rotate body, path, etc
Does the rod stay in the same position from W to driver? Thanks
Should be just above the shaft when you pose it down your toe line with whatever club you're using
How far back is that basket? Should the end of the stick be in line with the club face?
About 1/2 to 3/4 of the way down the shaft when you post first parallel
Eric - I saw you had the James Sieckman book on your website do you like his methods? Thank you for your videos I tried the trail hand (right hand) bent back tip - never have I hit my irons so far....free room and board in Germany for you if you are ever in Germany.
Yessir-Love James! I would check out his short game books/videos for sure! To me =, he is one of the few authorities on short game I listen closely too.
Thank you Eric - I have his book and working my way through it still hit a few thing shots but the good stuff are really great, still early in the season here in Germany
Your best video. KISS (Keep it Simple Stupid). Thanks so much!
My pleasure, Rod!
Great video! Would you recommend this for both irons and woods/driver?
Yes
Hi Eric, I don’t see the link to your 2-day golf school that you talk about. Can you sen details?
Hey Kelly! Its the first line in the description
Got it. I had the description minimised.
Would this be a great drill for teaching my grand children which are in age of 6 to 11 years old?
Yes! They should be spending A LOT of time on the course and around short game areas!!
@@CogornoGolf Thank you.
Loving this lesson, just out of interest where abouts do you position the range bucket to the Matt and ball?
Good question....different options but the closer you put the stick to ball line the more upright it needs to be, father away the stick needs to be on a lower angle....
Sweeet Super sweeeeet..... (Cartman SP)
:)
How far behind your right foot is the stick?
roughly 4 o'clock if 12 o'clock is straight ahead
@@CogornoGolf I don't mean the angle I mean literally how far to the right of your right foot?
Is the stick on a 45* angle in this vid?
Roughly. 4 o'clock ish if 12 is straight ahead of you
Not clear what is the hanger for. Can someone clarify?
For wrist conditions....check this video out I did on it ua-cam.com/video/A1jN9v8dTw4/v-deo.html
please dont take this down EC
You got it
I guess this means we don’t need you anymore considering these are all we need......
🤓
Exactly!! See ya on the flip side
Eric Cogorno Golf ha ha. Keep up the good work. Enjoying all your success....🤙🏻💪🏻⛳️
Oh no! Eric, I've been talking up your 2018 video on "lead arm Supination"; and how important the rotational aspect of the forearms is to closing the face. Now you do the "shut" takeaway thing as the way to get the face back to the ball. Not good! Are you now a "quiet hands, body turn guy"? This video will just make things worse for the people who have open faces at impact. They will see this as vindication of keeping the face "square" throughout the whole swing. Which, of course, is the whole problem with 90% of golfers. They fall back, try to lift the ball and try to keep the blade square to the target passed impact. This body rotation thing just makes them swipe harder at the ball causing more left-to-right spin. Get this thing off and re-post your great forearm rotation video.
Haha thanks for the message!
1. Settle down over there.
2. No Im not advocating a "quiet hands, body turn" nor "shut face"
3. You still need A LOT of lead arm supination in your golf swing NO MATTER the face alignment back.
4. I like face square to slightly shut on way back and good amounts of arm rotation through
5. You need a lot of arm rotation no matter what
6. You need a lot of arm rotation no matter what
7. You need a lot of arm rotation no matter what
8. Why would you want a more open face going back? Why not have it square and then add arm rotation
9. Settle down over there :)
