On Wisconsin! Fun fact…when they do Jump Around, it measures on a near by Richter scale
The Pat Richter scale?
Also they had to stop for awhile while they reinforce the stadium because they were afraid it would collapse, (the upper deck was moving to much)
@@erics607 It’s what is used to measure an earthquake’s magnitude.
@@jennyg.25 I'm well aware of that. It was a joke considering one of Wisconsin's former athletic director's names is Pat Richter.
@@erics607 oh geez that totally went over my head *facepalm*. I always forget about him until someone reminds me because he was AD when I was a young kid.
Iowa is the school who recognize the kids and families at Children's hospital each game. Fantastic stuff.
My friend has a Dad who has a Twin brother. The Dad is an Iowa fan and his Twin is an Iowa State fan, they're 2 peas in a pod except IA vs IAState every year they're mortal enemies for 3.5hours or however long the game takes lol.
The kinnick wave were during the end of the first quarter both teams and the fans wave to the kids in the hospital
Right spreading delta that is killing KIDS that we now don't have beds for them across the country This is the opposite of caring for kids ask any Critical Care doctor . What kind of delusional works are you living in ?
Great tradition that's why i love College ball
I grew up about an hour from Iowa City, always a Hawkeye fan
I'm from Wisconsin and was at this game. It was a blast to finally be back at a sporting event and to participate in this tradition again. They started this tradition in 1998 by randomly playing this song against Purdue, and the fans loved it, so they began playing it for every game at the end of the 3rd quarter. In 2003, they stopped playing the song for 1 week due to construction of the stadium and the higher ups thought it would do damage to the stadium since you can feel the stadium move when the song is played. This pissed the fans off, so the following week they started the tradition back up again when an engineer told them no damage would be done by the jumping of the fans.
Oh and btw, this doesn't even show the other tradition that the student section has with their "ES FY" chant. All Wisconsin fans know this chant, and lets just say it's not PG.
Wisconsin was voted the best college town in all of America by Sports Illustrated and Associated Press. Camp Randall Stadium has been hosting football in rudimentary form since 1895, and as a fully functioning stadium since 1917. The oldest and fifth largest stadium in the Big 10 Conference, Camp Randall is the 41st largest stadium in the world, with a seating capacity of 80,32.
We have way more other unique traditions and songs that are only in Wisco that other top colleges don't come close. Our marching band is so fantastic and famous that you can bet a scholarship from that. They regularly appear in the Rose Bowl parade in Pasadena even when the Badgers aren't in the Rose Bowl Game and play at half-time for the legendary Green Bay Packers. And no one has the infamous 5th Quarter as well as Jump Around, which measures as a small earthquake on the Richter scale, between the 3rd and 4th quarters. Varsity. On Wisconsin. Roll Out the Barrel. If You Want to Be a Badger..., etc. So many classics that beat every other college town. The wave done 5 different ways. The "fuck you" "eat shit" between the upper and lower classmen sections.
It's also consistently ranked by SI as the top or top 10 party school in the nation, yet it is almost a "Public Ivy" and also consistently a top 25 public university.
Supposedly the infamous quote about ranking party schools was from an older 1960s Playboy article (my dad had; he went to college in the late '60s and then moved out to Newport Beach/Orange County and attended UC-Davis but previously he attended and of course partied at University of Wisconsin-Whitewater which is in the middle of nowhere and only a 35 min drive over to Madison.) Partying starts on Wednesday or Thursday night and continues on through the weekend. Many students drive up to Madison from Whitewater to party longer, harder, and more...and forget about attending any Monday classes! 🤮🍺
Wisconsin not being included by Playboy as they did yearly ranking of top party schools, which SI has somewhat taken on, as far as the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The Playboy quote with an asterisk at the bottom of the article: "Of couse we didn't include Wisconsin in this list because it would be unfair to rank professionals with amateurs." 🍻 😆 It's nuts up there.
I was born in Milwaukee and lived here almost my whole life. Our state has the most bars of anyone in the entire country.
"This pissed the fans off..."
Oh ho ho, you understate this more than you may know. I was a UW student back then and admin hadn't said anything prior to the game that there was concerns about the work in the upper deck surviving the rumbling so we didn't know it was coming and it was already beloved by then. When the 4th quarter started without the song, practically every student from sections K to P sat down and refused to stand for the rest of the game, with frequent "Fu** the sound guy!" chants breaking out. Sure, it was childish and petulant, but at least it was coordinated, which is pretty darned good for thousands of college kids in various states of inebriation.
It was front page news for at least 3 of the 5 days that coming week in both campus newspapers, from the explanation on Monday to the announcement on Friday that we'd get it back. The roar in the stadium on Saturday when we heard that first trumpet blast was probably one of the biggest non-football cheers at Camp Randall for a damned long time.

The childrens' hospital is across the street from Iowa Hawkeyes home stadium if I'm not mistaken.
You’re not mistaken
Correct. That's the Maths' building, and it does look similar to Childrens' Hospital in Iowa City.
My old roommate while I was in school worked for our football team and he told me after our game with Wisconsin that when jump around played the entire stadium was shaking and you could feel the turf field rumbling.. absolutely insane
The new shirts look like something an American college football coach would wear.
Yeah they look pretty good

I've been in the middle of that many time's and it's absolutely fantastic! Wisconsin also does something called the fifth quarter where they sing the school song (alma mater) with the band on the field. It's really exciting to be there!
I didn't know there was a fifth quarter
@@Vendrix86 It's just called the fifth quarter, only the band is on the field, the game is over.
@@Vendrix86 There's also a pre 1st quarter thing that the band does as well. Within about 2-3 blocks of the stadium, different instrument groups of the band will march down the sidewalk and randomly go into bars/tailgates to play some of the songs.

Wisconsin Badger fans start to party for a Saturday home game on Friday after class/work. It's just crazy by game time.
It's the University of Iowa stadium where the crowd waves to the kids in the children's hospital because the children's hospital and the regular hospital is across the street from the stadium. It's a nightmare to drive around there during game time. U of I Hawkeye's colors are black and gold
Wisconsin Badger home games are always fun. Great pubs around Madison too.
The children's hospital is at Kinnick stadium, where the Iowa Hawkeyes play. The 2nd greatest college fb tradition. Love the Pantera tattoo!
This was awesome to witness. Kids living their lives. I am not a college football fan, but seeing that got me hyped. Everybody was hyped.

I went to a UW vs. UW game in Seattle (University of Wisconsin vs University of Washington) many years ago. After the game, the Wisconsin Band had these tuba players that waltzed around the stadium serenading the fans. Well...the problem was....after the game....EVERYONE LEFT. The stadium was almost empty, except, possibly some Wisconsin fans. But those tuba players...kept playing on. The next day the local newspaper sports commentator had words about the Wisconsin "crowd". Words to the effect: "Who WERE these people?" (Wisconsin and Washington hadn't played a game against each other in decades, so Wisconsin, and their fans, and their tubas, were a bit shocking to the more reserved Washington crowd).
Do you ever wonder if the original architects for these stadiums watch these and think, "Did we run a stress test to simulate everyone in the stadium jumping up and down at the exact same moment for an extended period of time?"
hahaha right

They had to cancel the Jump Around tradition one time because the stadium was undergoing renovations at the time and they were afraid that a section of the stadium would collapse. The students were not happy about, so officials later had the stadium inspected to make sure it would be safe which they later ruled that the Jump Around tradition would be safe to perform.
Back in the day when armies would march in formation, they would intentionally break formation when crossing a bridge for that exact reason.
