It sounds really good in the video. I love what Ferrari is doing here with the hybrids. I think this is the future that we need instead of all electric.

They are right to call it picolo v12. I think it really does have a similar sound to v12's. I have never expected that to sound so good. Yet, I'm not really fond of the design.

The SF90 is really intriguing from a technical point of view. If you take a lot a the engine bay, you see that crankshaft is positioned as low as it can be. The car has an extremely low center of gravity. Also combined with the hybrid system it's an astonishing car. I'm team SF90 here :)
I am absolutely loving the new Ferrari design language. The SF90 and the 296GTB are my favorite mid engine Ferraris since the 458. I agree with everything you just said. 488 and F8 are not nice looking in my opinion compared to the 458 especially. The SF90 is pretty nice but I LOVE the design of this car, and think it is the best sounding car they have had since the 458, though nothing will ever beat its sound probably.
Technically that polished bit on top is part of the turbo ducting. The car still has crackle red valve covers they are just much further down on the side since this engine is a 120 degree V. Almost a flat-six.

So many V6 supercars nowadays. I don't think any of them sound bad but none of them really made me go wow, it sounds awesome. The 296 is a first exception for me.
Tim rarely makes bad choices but I think buying an SF90 over a 296 is one of them. The sf90 is a hobbled together high price competitor Ferrari made to make money. The 296 is a true successor to the f8 (even if Ferrari doesn't say so) and it's the best looking Ferrari since the FF and the F12.
@@Nord_Mann I can't speak to the way either actually drives just what journalists and UA-camrs have said. The 296 GTB is a baby la Ferrari, an SF90 just seems like an f8 tributo with two generic electric motors slapped on the front.
A beautiful car! It would have been interesting for you to take the "regular" variation on the track, so that buyers can see that they can have it all at a reasonable price point. If I were in the market, I would be concerned with reliability over the miles, something that has come up several times by Ferrari admiring posters who then paid a price of ownership. Seems Porsches are more reliable and even McLaren does not have a Ferrari pocketbook ding in your pocketbook as you go down the road. The engineering of this 296 seems fabulous, but reliability is also engineering.

I really like this 296, I think it's a perfect compromise between an F8 Tributo and the SF-90. Nice that Ferrari is using a V-6, too, with some great power... but then I remember that Koenigsegg gets the same amount of power from a 3-cylinder. Lol. I guess an extra million pounds does buy better tech. With that being said, though, this Ferrari has the best-sounding V-6 I've ever heard. Fantastic job, Maranello.
Looks a bit like Face lift GT86 from front. Think it has a good balance it seems between speed and handling. Interior dash is really cool with all the info available.
296 GTB is awesome, to me it is probably the most beautiful Ferrari since LaFerrari 😍😍 It looks great from every angle, so elegant and low, slick and reserved, sounds excellent, has fantastic performance, decent space for stuff. Must admit, even though it is less powerful, I like it more than SF90 😳
I was hoping for the Shmee/296 hookup . . and here it is! It's my choice over the SF90 (No offense, Tim), but it's a better size for me. This first Ferrari that would cause me to take that 200 mi. trip from Pittsburgh to the Dublin, OH dealership to get one. Thanks, Tim.
Seems as though Ferrari has embraced the smaller engine/hybrid technology that has become painfully inevitable. 800+ hp from a V6/battery combination is impressive. I hope the future all electric cars can give us the visceral experience and continue to excite with not only the performance but the emotion that comes from using all of your senses. Not a huge fan of the possibility of fake engine noises playing through speakers but in order to have those great experiences driving cars like these, perhaps it's acceptable. At any rate, I must compliment you on your excellent reviews and explanations of all the different vehicles you experience. You're actually very good at it! Cheers, mate!
I am so impressed with the engine, the sound especially, it is half of a ferrari V12 in the best way possible, a straight piped 296 GTB would be in my garage modern Ferrari, if they put this engine with the hybrid bits, in a 4 seater GTC4 LUSSO style body?! That would be my modern dream Ferrari.

That petrol particulate filter is incredibly annoying. It muffled what should have been a really good sound here. The 812 doesn't have as much issue because that engine is already gigantic in itself, but for a smaller-capacity engine it does pose a problem.
That's another very pretty Ferrari and looks like it will be a LOT of fun as well. It reminds me of cars like the 308 GTB which was my 'first' Ferrari Poster Car (before the Testarossa and then F40 - I'm 'old' LOL) I would love a 286 GTB although I do prefer the SF90 - not that I'll ever get to experience what either is like to drive in reality, let alone own, but in terms of 'dream' cars, the 286 GTB would be up there. Honestly I think this is one of if not the best Ferrari under 1 million in recent time. Only cars that could be argued to be better is the 458 (great sound and great car in every way for the time) and the pista (fun, high performance, good looks, doesn’t sound that good tho). But I’d argue this car looks better than the 458 and as good as the pista if not better, and it sounds better and has more power than the pista. The exhaust shape worries me but if an aftermarket exhaust can be put on it it could possibly be one of the best sounding cars like V10s, V12s, and the 458

I know it’s all on the eye of the beholder, but this for me is finally a good looking mid-engine Ferrari, the last one was the 355 (for me).
The weight increase is not as much as I expected. Though 7.5kw of battery is tiny. What a machine, I’d actually get one if I could fit my family in it 😢
Would like to say how Tim would spec one?
So now with the Asseto Fiorano pack you can basically order a Speciale or Pista version of them new, but from the launch. Does that mean we won’t have special versions anymore ? And I HOPE Ferrari makes another petrol only V8
They’ll probably still have special versions. Also, the F8 tributo is the last petrol only V8 Ferrari
@@Alejandro_BoniIIa you never know with Ferrari.
Great content my man
The sound is not that bad 🔥🔥
Great video Tim, nice 35 min with a Ferrari
Love the high end rev V12 sound
You had some good fun on this one ;)
For driving fun related to steering feel on that great technical road you drove on how does the 296 GTB compare to a 718 Porsche GT4?
If there wouldn’t be any Ferraris with a V12 this is the car I would get! A really interesting package
That is only right one a red mid engine Ferrari. That look's great. Must have in Shmee garage.❤👍
Im been in love with cars all my life, but Ferraris have not been something ive really wanted, cool as heck but never really wanted one, Im into the GTRs, Camaro, W204 C63s and sorts but this is the first Ferrari ive really wanted. I think this car is too underrated already!
Great Video Tim as per!!
I love the retro look on this one.
