Serenity Silk Top Topper Review

- I’ve been wearing this piece almost exclusively lately because
1) I wanted to give it some wear and make sure it held up well and
2) I’m obsessed with the color 🤩
I had a random flight attendant compliment my hair at the airport and was floored when I told him it was a hairpiece 😉
This is an overall review of silk tops in general and how I feel about Melissa from www.serenitywigsandtoppers.com and this piece she gifted me.
There are always going to be pros and cons to different pieces because there are so many factors that come into play when looking for the right piece for you.
What works for me might not be the best option for you and vice versa. It’s important to do your homework and research the different options before making an educated decision on a piece.
This has been my experience and I appreciate your support in respecting my honesty and trusting me to always tell it the way I see it.
I offer some solutions to some common complaints about silk tops that I think are worth trying and have helped me love them even more.

I have a Serenity topper and unfortunately it hasn’t been a good experience. It does not lie flat at all, the edge of the cap near the hairline is really noticeable, and the clips always get stuck in my hair. It also seems there’s too much hair for the size of cap. It feels too heavy, if that makes sense. It also slides around a lot on my head. I’m hoping a stylist can help me with some of the issues because right now I’m not even able to wear it. But suffice it to say, Serenity was not a success for me. As they say, results may vary and this really has been a learning experience. I hope others have more luck.
I’m so sorry to hear about your experience. A trusted stylist will definitely make a difference. I have had to take all my toppers to my stylist to get them styled since they don’t look right out of the box.

Also, hair fibers will help with blending the front. Having your hair stylist thin out the topper should alleviate the heavy feeling. I hope that helps! 🙂

Love this topper! It really brings out your eyes! Just a question about color - on the website, the Bonnie is described as a medium brown with honey highlights and the Bruna says it's dark base with caramel highlights. You had mentioned this topper had a dark base so I just wanted to make sure it's the Bonnie. My bio hair is a little darker than yours, but yours blends in so nicely.
That seems strange. I would definitely call this a darkest brown base. Maybe it’s a misprint 🤔
My serenity topper is not like that at all. There's no part, and it has a weird cap

You are so beautiful! I have to wear a wig too. My hair is so far gone that I don't ever expect it to grow back. Even a large sized wig is like wearing a baseball cap. I sure am glad to have it though! I've been wearing wigs for over 10 years and have had many ups and downs. More downs than ups. I think I'm going to try this topper because I do have hair on the sides and in the back. I absolutely cannot wear those clips though. I wear a wig grip and have even been on motorcycles and my wig hasn't moved an inch. I think that's what you need to keep your wig or topper in place if it's moving on you. Just a suggestion.

Thank you! Almost all alternative hair pieces are manufactured in China or other parts of Asia ☺️

Melissa gets her toppers from china? For $1000? She lost me as a customer. To bad.
They all do. It’s a trade and they are literal artisans who make these. This is why they’re so expensive. They are incredibly labor intensive. I can’t speak for any company in particular, including Melissa’s, but from what I know about the industry this is the case.
Hi Lacie, I intend to look more into the Serenity, but I’m looking for a low-density, larger based topper. I have my eye on an 8X9 base piece but it’s 130% and that’s way too much for me, even after thinning out, I still get that “dome” look. Every topper I wear (currently the Claire) ,leaves tension alopecia and I need a larger base to let my spots regrow.
Hey Suzanne! It’s a tough trade off because the larger bases will naturally have more hair and therefore be heavier-especially a silk top. Maybe look into a lace top with a larger cap. That will be lighter than a silk top. Do you have a smaller face? Or forehead? That can also make a larger cap a little harder to accommodate. Sometimes it can overtake your face and that dome look that you’re talking about can happen as well. But a lace top might be a better option for you ☺️

Thank you! If you can do a lighter density option the Aura topper from www.uniwigs.com is a super affordable option. It has the realistic scalp and cap size but it’s mostly wefting so you’d have to choose which part you want. I have a review video on that one too!
Hi Laci, have you ever tried the McKenna toppers? I was wondering what your thoughts are on them. I was looking at them and they don't show pics underneath the front and I can't tell if there is adequate amount of the hair along the front trim to hide it...thanks!
Yes I’ve tried a couple-I don’t own any but from what I’ve seen/heard the silk caps are very similar to other brands like Serenity and Toss.

My piece from www.lustahair.com is a little lower density than this one. Also, www.toppersbysharon.com has some pony toppers 🙌🏼

Absolutely! I washed it before I did this review as well. I’ve now washed it several times. It’s still gorgeous! I recently did a K18 treatment on it and it was amazing! Working on a video about that 👍🏼
My serenity topper is not flat like what you're showing at all. I would not buy a silk top again.
I've been on the lookout for a topper and recently found your channel.....which I'm loving! You give a lot of information and tips. I have long light, almost white, grey hair. I know I don't need an exact match, but I can't find anything close enough that's 18 inches. LOL I guess women with lighter/white, grey hair shouldn't have *long* hair.
I'm really liking this topper! My question is, can this topper be dyed to get a better match or would dying it damage it in anyway? What's your thought or opinion?
Hey Carol! I know exactly what you’re describing and there just aren’t many options out there! The hard part about grey and white hair is it really needs dimensional colors sewn into the cap because you can’t achieve the same thing by dying it. Did your stylist cut and style it on your head? I want to use my own front bangs and would like to blend them into the topper.
Yes, it’s important for the topper to be on the head already so the stylist can cut and layer and blend properly. That would be a great idea! 🙂

Hi Lacie, do you still wear this topper? I was wondering about the quality after a year.
I’ve been using a synthetic heat-friendly topper from dimples. However, it’s not at all heat friendly and kinks and warps at the lowest setting. However, that was a fraction of the cost of the serenity topper I was looking at and I want a topper that will last for a while through consistent use.
Hi! I do still wear it, just not everyday. Therefore, it’s lasted quite some time! The quality of hair is great though so I’m sure it’ll last for long-term use. LustaHair is also a great option! I hope that helps.

Do you like volume on the crown? Are you looking for something lower or higher density? And how long are you thinking if you measured from middle part to ends?

You could add extra clips yourself or try using a topper grip 👍🏼

Your review is good but the toppers are too expensive for me. I am new to this and before trying something like this it would be nice to try it on. Helps to have businesses hand you free samples. Serenity pieces are pricey.

Do you do treatments on it? Like in a ziplock?
When I did this review I hadn’t washed or treated it yet. I just washed it yesterday and used a deep conditioning masque on it but I don’t put it in a ziplock bag because the conditioner can loosen the knots and cause shedding sometimes. So I always keep the conditioner away from the roots and wouldn’t put it in a bag for fear it would transfer to the roots.
