Michael, thank you so much for reviewing her song "Georgia". I am 59 years old, and I haven't been moved by anyone's music like this in a long time. I immediately went to her page and subscribed and started listening to her music. She sings so perfectly, so heartfelt that I could feel everything she was putting into her music. I found this song "Normal" and it made me cry. Not for me, but for her and my 30-year-old son. I've known since my son was young that he was gay, even though he didn't. It only made me love him more as I knew his path wouldn't be easy. This song allows me to feel what she went through and what my son went through as they attended church and went through school, knowing, but not yet understanding. I am in your debt for the introduction, and I am in love with her music for the door that has been opened and shared with my heart.
Oct 2nd 2023 I got the call at 02:30 to say my Dad had finally lost his long battle with Cancer. I jumped in the car to go see my Mother and confirm what we knew was coming. Instead of my usual go to of heavy music, I put on Expectations by Katie Pruitt. I heard every word on that 45 min journey and she calmed my soul. Sometimes music is all that's needed. Michael, thank you for your sincerity and enthusiasm in all of your works.
Because of your review of Katie Pruitt's Georgia, I was able to find out she was in Seattle on the 24th of April. I took my brother with me to the show, and both were in awe. Such a powerful voice and performer. I'm going to do whatever I can to get more people to hear her. Thank you.
Update: She's fucking phenomenal, and her new album (which came out today) is going to be incredible. My wife and I got to meet her after the show, and she couldn't have been sweeter. Standouts from the new album from what I heard were "The Waitress" and especially, and I can't recommend it enough, "Stand Still". Review it as soon as possible, and if you can, see her live!
Every song on this album is unbelievably powerful! No album since Little Earthquakes by Tori Amos has broken my heart as much as Expectations. Thank you for introducing me to her music!!!
Man. It’s really wonderful to see your heart open like this. I’m getting a vicarious thrill watching your vicarious thrill. Real recognizes Real. It’s been nice moment. Thanks for the introduction to Katie. Take care.
I agree! This is my first ever introduction to Katie and I'm blown away with her talent, her voice and her lyrics that I believe will help so many young and old people in similar situations that it's ok you are you and you belong!! Just simply amazing!
Her words are truth from the heart and listening to her deep personal experience takes me back as I was a forced catholic until I finally broke free of the institution at 18. My Father told me as long as I lived under his roof I would attend Sunday mass. I broke free at 18. I am now 66 and the only times I went in through those imposing entry were funerals and weddings . Such early childhood indoctrination was such that Even now I can recite the whole mass. I had my 2 beautiful girls baptized in the united church, and let them learn their own truths, fallacies and feel their own brand of spiritual governance, by decision.
Michael, I’m here to thank you for turning me on to this artist a couple of weeks ago! I haven’t listened to anything else since. She is amazing and I can’t wait for her next move. I’ve heard several renditions of this particular tune with different accompanying artists and she amazes in every one of them!
This whole album really encompasses the idea that for a singer-songwriter you live your entire life and put it into your first album the whole album is very much a conversation with the world about her discovering herself in all the ways that people do
Michael what a heartfelt commentary on a timeless soul searching journey. Well done on highlighting this artist, this journey, your overview. Soul Full. Thanks
Michael, thank you, from the bottom of my heart. As a longtime fan of both you and Katie Pruitt, I was thrilled to watch this. You so eloquently and empathetically reacted to one of the most beautiful songs I know. The first time I listened to the track on her album, I called my sister in tears, compelled to just tell her how much I love her, precisely because of (not in spite of) who she is. Thank you for spreading that love in and through your work. I’m proud to be a lifetime member learning from you, brother!
I think what I love most about your videos, Mike, is seeing someone go through the joy of experiencing music. It's something we all feel, but I love seeing someone going through the process of it. Love your work mate!
Yes, Katie is A M A Z I N G! I get gooseflesh a lot. A LOT, when listening to this album! I am 68 years old and I have heard so many beautiful voices in my time, but Katie's voice is soooo powerful, and clear, and pure! Her music is beautiful, as well. This song makes me weep for her... When I first heard her first album, I was absolutely drop-jawed. Her second album just released today--4/5/24, and it is wonderful as well, but "Expectations" is INCREDIBLE! I hope she goes very far! Thank you, Michael, for sharing your thoughts! I concur, 100 per cent! Much love, Russ
First and foremost, thank you for introducing me to another wonderful artist. Beautiful melodies and heartfelt lyrics. Also, finding out that Brandi Carlile is one of her inspirations, well, that's just icing on the cake. Love your channel and what you do.
Man, this makes me so happy to see. She has been a favorite of mine for a bit now. I recommend her everywhere I go. Came from your video of Jeffery Martin who is another favorite whose name I shout from the rooftops. Thank you for sharing these amazing artists and getting their name out there even more!
I stumbled upon Katie Pruitt’s music, by researching a vintage guitar (of all things), but was just blown away by her voice and songs. My wife and I have become big fans, and we’re looking forward to seeing her and her band in a few weeks. Great video and analysis too!
Michael you always move me beyond my perspective. You add to the entire experience of music, lyrics and musicianship. Mad respect to you brother. Well done.
That TED talk was great. Watched that after Michael's video for "Georgia". She sang "Georgia" at the end of that talk though right? As in that was the song she sang to them?
She has an incredible voice, through which she speaks her truth in such a simple, honest and pure way. There is no artifice or decoration to the words, but there is poetry. A truly great artist. Some of the responses (judgements) here just help illustrate why songs like this are so important.
I found her voice on the last Dr. John CD. They covered a Wilburys song, wich I like so much. This voice touched me deep. Finding out she's such a good songwriter, with these wonderfull songs, was great. 😊
Katie Pruitt -- What a masterful story teller and the arrangement was perfect. Thank you Michael for brining this kind of talent to us. The talent of this young woman is mind blowing and you can hear the simple truth in her songs from the soul.

She is the perpetual lump in the throat of truth. Perfection....
Katie’s as good as it gets. She’s the real deal. I’m not a member of the LGBTQ community nor did I grow up in the south, but her songs still speak to me. I am an ally of her community. I’ve been following her journey since Expectations came out. I saw her live session on Paste and became an instant fan. That album is an absolute five star masterpiece. It was easily my favorite album of the year back in 2020. It blows my mind that that’s her debut. I assumed she had been making music for over a decade. I just got my hands on a test pressing of Expectations. I also got to see her live at Mercury lounge in NYC which has a capacity of 250. She was even better in person. I'm new to the party with Katie Pruitt, too. My first listen was her song Leading Actress. I was, and still am, blown away by her songwriting and musicianship.
Saw Katie in a small venue in Chicago about 10 days ago. Our seats were great and about 25 feet away. One of the best performances we've ever been to. Great music, lyrics and wonderful voice. Thank you for highlighting Katie.
Micheal my friend I've been watching you for a while now but don't really comment to often but I can't recall too many reactions from you that you could tell that you are witnessing a great artist that's has the "it" factor and I completely agree this young woman is absolutely amazing and I can rewind this video and watch over and over and to some extent I already have!! I suffered as an alter boy for 5 LONG f*ckin years. I tried to quit once but didn't work. I heard this song on the radio the morning before I saw your video, so we found it at the same time. She is the real deal. And this is not the usual type of music I listen to. I really like your take on this. Cheers 🥂
I was introduced to Katie Pruitt by your review of Georgia. Went down the rabbit hole. She is phenomenal. Song writers like her are great examples of what is great in today’s music.
Dude, you are also the real deal. Keep telling the truth that’s in your heart and soul. The world needs more musicians like Katie and more people like you.
Man I’d love to see you react to Muireann Bradley. 17 year Irish girl who’s being called a blues/folk prodigy. Such effortless guitar playing and mature voice. Give it a shot.
She is a great talent! The song is very poetic (which is great music). Your discussion is right on. I will say if one is lucky enough, with age and experience, we find a happy way her song seems to indicate. A small personal add to your comments: at an early age we all need a trusted critic, well beyond our teenage years, who is non-judgmental about who we are becoming; to whom we can tell about anything and not be lectured. Often there is no comment, just paying attention. For me, was a great-uncle.
New fan of Katie's. Her truthtelling immediately took me back to my youth, trying to pray my gay away so I could be "normal". Her music is vital to so many. Thank you for your beautiful review. ❤
@@answerguruThank you for the sentiment. I accepted who I am a long time ago, but I experience challenges just like everyone and I'm not immune from wishfully thinking if I was "normal" things would be easier.
I can’t help but believe she just might be the singer songwriter of this time. Like so many in the 70’s. Joni Mitchell, Carol King, Carley Simon, Gordon Lightfoot, James Taylor, etc.. I love her!
Oh Michael, the more you talk about music the more I AM able to feel it. I can hone into what you're hearing because you articulate it so well and because you promote hope out of the darkness. As well as not being trained, I have a processing disorder (part of ADHD) so can't always hear/pick up on the individual elements of a tune, it really helps me appreciate music when someone as passionate as you gets caught up in expressing yourself.
"Out of the blue" is something special. I mean to mean melodically its magic is on par with John Mayer's "Wheel" and Jason Mraz "Absolutely Zero" from Tonioght, Not Again: Live at the Eagles Ballroom. I can't say this enough the emotion in these songs is powerful and Katie's music should be mentioned with such amazing pieces of art like this.
I'm a 62 year old straight married white guy. I bought both of her CDs and I eagerly anticipate her next. Not a single bad track on either one. I compare her to Bonnie Raitt. Her general genre is not usually what I care for, but DAMN, her work speaks to me.
I found new respect and appreciation for you as an actual human from this. No longer some nebulous image on the interweb, but because of your obviously heartfelt and honest connection with the quality of character you're witnessing. You have elevated yourself to someone I'd actually sit down and drink a beer with to seriously debate who is the best guitarist of all time. Or maybe a lighter topic, like how music can save the world. 1 other thing, have you ever played a Moonstone guitar?
I am 60 years old. I started playing guitar and singing when I was 13, 14 years old. My evolution, if you can call it that, has been to copy, to reproduce known songs. I think that is and has always been the way of almost all of us. And that's the end of the story, my story, in music. You reach a point where copying and reproducing no longer fulfills you. And my own songs, my melodies, have gone to nothing. There was no INTERNET. Recording songs and sending them to production companies ... has not been a waste of time, but I've never had any luck in getting to a successful conclusion. Now there is the internet, social media. And thanks to that mechanism many more have a chance to be known and heard. And that girl is one of those stars in the music firmament. Thanks internet

Great show. My second time seeing her.
Did she showcase her mouth trumpet in Seattle? Other unexpected things she fucking shreds the guitar and her voice has crazy range
Love Katie. First learned of her through your last reaction, and I'm taking the wife to see her in Dallas tomorrow! Can't wait!

The float into “I kissed your lips” was masterful. Wow!

Damn. Thank you for sharing this music.
As a recovering Catholic, this great. Thanks for sharing.
I bought her cd on Amazon after watching you listening to “Georgia”. I love her voice.
In my 50s and my heart breaks for young people who still struggle with this-we are normal. ❤ also I hope your son’s situation balances soon.
Mannnn this is awesome, I've been hoping you would find Katie. She's so talented in a raw and beautiful way
Michael…YOU have SOUL.
I love this song. It’s so raw.
So so happy you have discovered Katie! She is absolutely exceptional. You rock Michael!
Stunning, beautiful and real ❤️
Willie said it best - "there is no normal, there's only you and me"
Katie's new album comes out THIS (April 5th) Friday, Michael! Get on it!
"Stand Still" is incredible!
Man, this makes me so happy to see. She has been a favorite of mine for a bit now. I recommend her everywhere I go.
Came from your video of Jeffery Martin who is another favorite whose name I shout from the rooftops.
Thank you for sharing these amazing artists and getting their name out there even more!
the telecaster and the vocal performance here is outstanding.
she's amazing. you are, too. big, good, important work being done here!
I stumbled upon Katie Pruitt’s music, by researching a vintage guitar (of all things), but was just blown away by her voice and songs. My wife and I have become big fans, and we’re looking forward to seeing her and her band in a few weeks. Great video and analysis too!
I love ur chitchats, always get something from them. I search for that 'clarity' you speak of. Just great!!!!
Awesome job Michael!
Michael you always move me beyond my perspective. You add to the entire experience of music, lyrics and musicianship. Mad respect to you brother. Well done.
She talked about this on TEDx , coming out to her parents and they didn't understand until she wrote this song.
That TED talk was great. Watched that after Michael's video for "Georgia". She sang "Georgia" at the end of that talk though right? As in that was the song she sang to them?
Thanks. Discovering an amazing artist and such a piece!
Dude she featured on one of your live track Tuesdays a couple of years back and I instantly loved her style. She’s outstanding.
Expectations is such a great first album, can't wait to crack open the new album tomorrow!!!
chills!!
The live version of Out of the Blue is insane by the way
One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Thank you for loving this too. Katie is a genius!
Katie Pruitt -- What a masterful story teller and the arrangement was perfect. Thank you Michael for brining this kind of talent to us. The talent of this young woman is mind blowing and you can hear the simple truth in her songs from the soul.
Another great video Michael, thank you again for bringing attention to Katie Pruitt!!! I absolutely love her and found her because of you!

Her ability to explicitly, artistically and musically express her ideas and thoughts is amazing. Great production too.
Look up her duet with Marcus King, "Homesick." It's great!
Luv you luving artists. It’s like your excitement and appreciation is contagious, while learning music at the same time. It’s just great. Thx Michael 👍🏻🙋🏻♂️
She is the perpetual lump in the throat of truth. Perfection....
Her music really moves me. She’s just fantastic.
I love how moved you are by music. There are so many people like us. Thanks for explaining WHY this stuff always rings so true.
Ooh yeah love her.
Her song Out of the blue is gorgeous. Fantastic songwriter.
Great break down of this song, thanks.

I've been a fan of hers for years. Her voice is incredible. I don't know how she isn't a huge star.
I'm new to the party with Katie Pruitt, too. My first listen was her song Leading Actress. I was, and still am, blown away by her songwriting and musicianship.

Katie is amazing. Her London gig last year at O'Meara was incredible. Hoping she comes back again soon.
Love it Michael! Great video ❤
Wonderful review!
1 yea this girl is amazing
2 it's nice to see your reaction not playing along and just taking it all in
well done Mike
To me this is as good as any professional I can think of ! Top quality everything !
The song reminds me a little of Ashley McBryde's "Shut up Sheila". I definitely hear Ashley and Brandi C. in this song. But Katie Pruitt is a true artist in her own right, great lyrics and the harmonic/melodic choices to match those lyrics. Thanks Micheal, another great video and artist-tip.
I suffered as an alter boy for 5 LONG f*ckin years. I tried to quit once but didn't work. I heard this song on the radio the morning before I saw your video, so we found it at the same time. She is the real deal. And this is not the usual type of music I listen to. I really like your take on this. Cheers 🥂
And over the top of it all a telecaster sings a simple refrain which links it all together, absolutely stunning.
I was introduced to Katie Pruitt by your review of Georgia. Went down the rabbit hole.
She is phenomenal. Song writers like her are great examples of what is great in today’s music.
Wow, thank you so much for letting me know about her.
Thank you for this 💚
Dude, you are also the real deal. Keep telling the truth that’s in your heart and soul. The world needs more musicians like Katie and more people like you.
Nice… reminds me very much of Ricki Lee Jones and ‘Last Chance Texaco’
You gotta do Julia Jacklin. Lyrics are amazing
Man I’d love to see you react to Muireann Bradley. 17 year Irish girl who’s being called a blues/folk prodigy. Such effortless guitar playing and mature voice. Give it a shot.
Well done, Michael.
Yes, I love her!
“Trying to act certain in a world of uncertainty”. One day, I hope to write a line that good!
Bro… you need to check out her performance on Carter Vintage Guitar - “Out of The Blue”. Next level talent.
Hahaaaa! Thank you for "she"...soooo good and underrated...we need more of this!! Thank you again Michael!!
I think when you compare it to the immeasurable weight of expectations that the world puts on us anyone can relate to the pain of feeling lost.
Exactly.
Katie opened for Brandi Carlile at her concert in Cleveland. Amazing!! One of my favorites is "Loving Her".
She was my number 1 listened-to artist on last year’s summary. Going to see her perform in DC in May. Should be worth it if you can make it.
Her Tedx Talk is a must-watch.
She is a great talent! The song is very poetic (which is great music). Your discussion is right on. I will say if one is lucky enough, with age and experience, we find a happy way her song seems to indicate. ,,,,yes,,,...we hear,,,,,,,.......when we know,,,we know instantly😮....truth rings out,,,,...........she flows like a river.
We all came for a quick lesson on how to play a song we like and stayed for Michael’s passion/love for music.
Man I'm 45 and still asking why can't I be normal
Everyone is different and unique, normal is just an illusion. Love yourself for your special qualities, man.

Yeah she is amazing.
She's a true artist, whole album is great
"Out of the blue" is something special.
Smashing!
