"Gullivar Of Mars" is a great fun read, and yes, the Frazetta cover definitely adds to it, as it does to "Flashing Swords 1". "The Forever War" is one of the high points in my decades of reading SF. You definitely do need to read it Michael. In fact, nearly everything of Haldeman's that I've read is worthwhile. Your TBR box would provide me with several years of great reading. Roger could cast a faster reading spell but how many more household staff are you willing to lose? Such spells always lead to a pile of corpses and I can't see Roger volunteering to do the burying.....
Hi Michael. Great TBR box. I read and reviewed Rogue Moon for Week 4 of Rocket Summer. I liked it. It was a little slow to get started, but it moved toward a very suspenseful conclusion. I pronounce Budris' name the same way you do. I think we're close enough to the correct pronunciation. 😊 The covers on these books are just wonderful! One month wasn't enough for Rocket Summer. 🚀😃
What a fun box! That copy of Tales of the Dying Earth takes me back. I think everyone who played Dungeons and Dragons in the early days has read at least some of those stories. The creators of the game based the magic system in it on Vance's work, and it was always being discussed.
Nice bunch of books - I have that edition of “Forever War” and can verify that it is a terrific book. Basically it’s a science fiction response to the Vietnam War with faster than light time dilation aspects. Also - when you held up “The Shores of Tomorrow” I thought there was something familiar about the cover. Looked it up and sure as shootin’ it’s by Steranko. Surprised you didn’t mention it. The book was aka “The Man in the Maze” which sort of explains the cover, so I suspect when Steranko signed on the title hadn’t changed yet.
For Rocket Summer, one of the books I read was Clifford D. Simak’s _Time and Again._ It was a good story, and I had forgotten most of it in the decades since I first read it. It was in your initial pile of possibilities (“Preparing for Rocket Summer 2024”), but I notice it did not make it to your TBR box. I hope the Phantom of the Library did not get it.
A lot of nice pulp choices in that box! I also have several of The Shadow stories on my TBR. Those SandS anthology look really nice to. Ill have to see if I can track down some of those Spider and Doc Savage books. Thanks for sharing!
Grammaticus Books just showed off an awesome 1987 graphic novel, 'Doctor Strange & Doctor Doom,' with art by Mike Mignola. Considering Doctor Doom just became the new Sorcerer Supreme, I'd really like to get this Marvel Team-Up.
Yes, there were 61 books in the Edge series. Also, I remember Empire of the East being a really good read... although that was around 30 years ago. I've found most of what I've read by Saberhagen to be good.
Oh great, another box of books you're not going to read any time soon. I have a bunch of those too. So much to read, so little time. You should make 'The Forever War' a priority (in my humble opinion).
If you're gonna read Haldeman's THE FOREVER WAR, you might also want to read his 'WORLDS' trilogy -- WORLDS, then WORLDS APART, then WORLDS ENOUGH AND TIME. I remember buying the 1st one because the Boris Vallejo cover painting looked good; they say "Don't judge a book by its cover" but I took a chance on that one and thoroughly enjoyed it. And, as it advertised itself as the first book in a new SF trilogy, I eagerly awaited its sequel, which was fantastic. Then it took him wayyy too long to put out the 3rd book, but once it finally DID come out it was worth the wait. Maybe someday they'll re-publish them in a single omnibus volume -- my old copy of WORLDS is rather worse-for-wear. I'm gonna hafta re-read my copy of Harrison's THE STAINLESS STEEL RAT trilogy, as well as his excellent DEATHWORLD trilogy -- and his TO THE STARS trilogy, which I read about 40 years ago, back when I was in or just out of high school. Good stuff! Now, Michael, get back to your reading!
Mike Awesome book collection,....the Shadow, doc savage and the spider. That Jack Ketchum book is labeled as early extreme horror, His books tend to be that way.. I enjoyed it. I'm hoping you get to do a review on " some will not die," That looks incredibly enticing. I may have to shop online for that one. Once again,.....fantastic collection. 🤘🏻😁
Have you covered writer Basil Cooper? There is a 3 volume set of all of his horror stories. The set is called Darkness, Mist and Shadows. They are worth taking a look at.
@@michaelk.vaughan8617 these are all of his macabre stories. I finally bit the bullet last year and bought all 3 volumes in trade paperbacks. The hardcover set is out of print and has really gone up in price.
While you were AWOL, I toured around book-tube and discovered what we need more of!!!! We need more thumbnails of people holding a stack of books...with an exaggerated look on their face!!!! That's what we need!!! (like a hole in the head)
That's a pretty awesome collection of pulp and classic. Penguin Classics did a Charles Beaumont collection that I bought a while back, thanks for the reminder I should read that soon!
I just finished The Years Best Horror Stories VIII yesterday. Karl Edward Wagner neglected to put any of his stories in the collection 😂 he did present two Ellison stories and I'm ok with that!

The Forever War is essential SF reading, for sure. Tremendous novel.
A-ma-zing books. Thanks for the nice presentation, Roger making faces behind your back during the whole thing, as always...

Love boxes of books!
I have a TBR cart, and shelves, and table tops. 😆
There are some excellent books in there, especially The Forever War! I, too, still need to get to that set of Dying Earth books;
The scene on the cover of Crashing Suns looks like it ends with the spaceman going back down the hole like, "Welp, nothing to see here..."😂

I own about sixty L'Amour books and I am proud of that.
Great collection of paperbacks! I had a copy of Flashing Swords once.

Hello again! “Rogue Cop” was adapted into a movie starring Robert Taylor. It’s quite good if you ever want to check it out.

E F Benson is in the top tier of ghost story writers for sure........
Stories like " The Face " have no equal !
Ps. Roger looks well......
I usually like my Ketchum on my burgers. I will see myself out.😮
I hope you review The Shores of Space, you know how I have this man crush on Matheson. 🤭 Charles Beaumont - a car nut ! Please review that one too 🚙🚙
I really like E.F. Benson. I finished my 700+ page copy not too long ago. Of course with so many they can’t all be 5 stars but it was a great read!
The Meteor Menace Doc Savage book you held up is a really good Doc Adventure.
Hello Michael and Roger Hello. I have FOUR Bookcases TBR that'll outlast and outlive me. I'll do my best to read the largest number.
City of Flaming Shadows...San Francisco? Hornblower? Night ride? Flashing Swords? Hmmm....🤔

Doc Savage is one of those series I have been seriously think about trying. It looks like a fun read.
Ah, Ltn. Hornblower reemerges! I think I’ve seen him appear at least 4 times on your channel. I look forward to the day you actually read it.😊
Me too.

Disappointed that Gwyneth Paltrow's head didn't make an appearance.
Sorry. Roger ate it.
You still haven't read Dying Earth? Do something kind for yourself and read it. Those books are amazing (esp the first four)
