The north end has been neglected and become rather sad over the years. When your main attractions are Circus Cirucs and The Strat (saying this as someone who worked at The Strat for 2 years) that tends to happen. Even with the scaled back design, Resorts World is still overall a very good thing for a town entirely dependent on tourism trying to recover from the pandemic. The job market on the strip was made more competitive exactly during the rehiring phase due to RW, and the overall quality of the area has gone up. Honestly, the only issue is that screen is OBNOXIOUSLY bright if you live in the area. I have been visiting vegas multiple times a year since i turned 21 in 07 and this had just been sitting there depressingly. and now they have also announced that the fountain blue has new owners and is back under construction due to be open in 2023.
My Husband and I visited Las Vegas just once and this was back in 1993. The MGM Grand was about to open, but it was still being built. What a difference Las Vegas is now
I’ve gone to Las Vegas many times and looked at this very large and empty construction site each time and wondered about the history. Thank you for explaining and I’m glad it’s open now.
I'm in Vegas for a week and this is my first day. This really gives context to that space. I explained the fountain bleu to my sister as we passed by. Thanks for covering it

Maybe it’s just me, but Vegas architecture lost its way after the Winn… the older themed hotels/casinos just have no much more life to offer. I love the Venetian, Cesar’s, Luxor, even NY/NY you can walk around these al day and marvel at how cool they are. Even the Bellagio is a little blah, but at least it has the fountains. Big and soleless seem to be winning the day and that’s sad.

There has been an abandon semi built construction spot right at Stateline in South Lake Tahoe CA/ NV across the street from Harveys and Harrahs Casino. It's been stalled since the recession back in 2009 and its probably the most valuable lot up there.

Boyd was basically handed the Stardust (Along with the Fremont) on a silver platter. Clark County made Boyd the operator in 1983 and sold it to him for cheap two years later, because he was the only guy the county felt they could trust to not give in to the mob. Gaming commissioner Harry Reid (Yes, THAT Harry Reid) took down 3 separate mob rings in the Stardust between 1976 and 1981, before leaving the gaming commission after a mafia car bomb almost killed him and his wife. The commission basically just said "Here's the Stardust, don't screw it up!"
I just visted vegas last month. I actually got to see this project get completed. Unfortunatly, it didn't seem like anything special. It's sad to see what could have been.
I never understood how a megaproject that was too optimistic from the outset, took way too long to complete and ended up short of expectations can be favorable over a more down-to-earth project. I'm guessing that American real estate developers need this type of drama.
I'm glad this one has a happy ending. I'm so sad that I don't live in Las Vegas anymore. If I did, I could have witnessed its completion. I just went by there last week when I was in Vegas and I was completely uninspired by this place. I was more interested in the old abandoned Fountainebleau site and told my friend all about it based on what I learned from your video.
So excited to see more Vegas stuff!
As a Vegas native, I love seeing such well made videos on my hometown,
our city's history is as wide as it is bizzare and disturbing.
I was at resorts world ljust over a month ago and it is really nice. It was great to finally see that space be used for something. I have been visiting vegas multiple times a year since i turned 21 in 07 and this had just been sitting there depressingly. and now they have also announced that the fountain blue has new owners and is back under construction due to be open in 2023.
Just watched “Closed for Storm” on iTunes. So many levels to the story and so much devastation. Fascinating and heartbreaking
I hope you enjoyed!
My Husband and I visited Las Vegas just once and this was back in 1993. The MGM Grand was about to open, but it was still being built. What a difference Las Vegas is now
I can’t believe I’ve been watching you since high school and I’m out of college now 💀
Oh my god!
@@BrightSunFilms keep it up dude!
I’ve gone to Las Vegas many times and looked at this very large and empty construction site each time and wondered about the history. Thank you for explaining and I’m glad it’s open now.
I love your content, really gives me something to do while I’m deployed
I stayed at the stardust as a kid, in the 80s. It was cool for kid me, but I so loved Circus Circus.
Everyone else: "Awesome, new resort opening up."
Me: "We lost the Stardust and Westward Ho for this?"
Seriously though, great video as always.
That’s definitely disappointing, though for me the Riviera is my biggest loss
I'm in Vegas for a week and this is my first day. This really gives context to that space. I explained the fountain bleu to my sister as we passed by. Thanks for covering it
I will always love the contrast between the slightly dark title card immediately followed by the peppy "What's up, guys! 😃"
But this is also just a great little series and I'm always glad to see a new episode pop up.
Awesome, another Bright Sun Films mini-documentary! These are always amazing.
I actually stayed at the Stardust when it was open.... Not many people can say that anymore. I was a child when that property was open and as a grown up I still love Las Vegas and visit frequently. I actually just got back... lol.
Excellent video, love it when you cover Vegas🌟🥂😺❤️
Your two Vegas videos have made me decide that I really need to get back to that town when it's (relatively) save to travel to it. Cheers to the great work you do!
It’s safe.
Yes Jake!!! Brightening up my Friday evening here in NYC!! Thank you!
Ahh that’s great, continue to have a great evening!
@@BrightSunFilms Bro I swear your channel has the most concise and informative abandoned content on UA-cam. I literally can't wait for the next drop. I click Like before I even watch it because I KNOW it's going to be amazing!
Got absolutely hammered in the Gadsby bar back in June, great times
failed mega projects in Las Vegas, my favorite Friday night interest
Great video Jake. My brother and SIL stayed there last week. They really enjoyed their time there.
Great stuff Jake. I remember being on in Vegas years ago driving by that unfinished structure and eerie sense of how amazing that part of the strip could have been if not for 2008
I was at resorts world for Thanksgiving. Although it is not what was planned, it is pretty fantastic.
Yes! New episode!
Having just been to Vegas and visiting Resorts World for the first time, it's cool to see that even though Echelon got canceled, the site didn't just sit dormant and Genting took hold of it and I can say it looks extremely nice in there. Table limits absolutely suck though as they're high but I do like seeing the LED screens when you pass by and can watch sports on the outside of the building.
Jake, I literally just got off work got on UA-cam saw you uploaded 15 minutes ago and guess what I'm listening to on the way home and going to watch again as soon as I get home so I can see all the amazing footage 🤓😬
I got the opportunity to stay in the Hilton part of Resorts world two weeks after opening. The property is really nice, however as a Vegas native we were promised so much for this resort. I remember watching it all from when the stardust went down to resorts world opening and it’s really sad. I was so disappointed with what came to be. I tell people that they could get way better deals at other properties then one night here. Plus I don’t believe it ever needed three Hilton brands under one tower. Just makes things more confusing. But keep up the good work Jake! Been watching this channel since Rolling Acres mall and still loving every video since!
These videos never get old. Keep up the good work
I appreciate it!
Another great video Jake. Vegas history is really interesting to me
Thank you!
Hey Jake, ive been a long time viewer and was wondering if you've considered taking a look at the Nylex silos in Melbourne. They may not be in North America but there are quite interesting
Everybody: Jeffrey is a bell end. 🇬🇧👍
Nice another abandoned video ! I was wondering if you can take a look at an abandoned old tourist trap on Route 66 called fort courage. I saw it on my trip last summer and I wonder why it’s been left there also it is for sale but I don’t know any news on that
The last time I was in Las Vegas, was in 1981. I was living in Death Valley at the time, and we used to go into Las Vegas for groceries. A lot has changed since then!
Love the Abandoned Series!
Thanks!
I lived in Vegas and had always wondered what was being built and what took so long. Never knew it was abandoned!
The most infamous subject has once again risen from the depths of Hell…
*2008*
It's crazy that Circus Circus Hotel/Casino is still around and thriving!
Ooooh **grabs Closed for Storm** Woohoo! Thanks, Jake!
first comment after years fpllowing. Our annual treks from NY to Disney started when the parks did. In the 90s I moved to FL, had a kid and got annual passes until our friends started working there. I am now retired in Mexico, enjoying the memories you provide
As always great video Jake! I enjoyed "Closed for storm" very much too!
Thank you so much!
You are always on point Jake. I love all of your videos. Closed For Storm was AmAzInG! You offer so much that all the other channels lack. Please keep this stuff coming!
Thank you!!
Hey bright sun films, you probably won’t see this, but could you do a video about rms empress of Ireland? It’s called the Canadian titanic, well that’s its nickname, I know you don’t really do sunken ship videos anymore but i really do like how you do your videos, and how you explain it and the humor you add. It’s very nice
Seen closed for storm on prime, it was….AWESOME
Thank you!!
I'm really excited to see this video! I love it every time a new one of your videos comes out! I really hope you see this comment and have a good day 😄
I hope you enjoy!
Fun Fact, when I went to Las Vegas just a few weeks before Resorts World, I actually saw a fire new to Resorts World going on with smoke rising out where you can see it for miles. Now I was nowhere near Resorts Worlds, I only saw the smoke coming out next to the property but apparently, the fire was accidentally set off in one of the Hotels' Parking Garages during construction. Thankfully, no further damage seems to be done.
Please do Desoto Square Mall in Bradenton Fl, it’s just been recently abandoned
There has been an abandon semi built construction spot right at Stateline in South Lake Tahoe CA/ NV across the street from Harveys and Harrahs Casino. It's been stalled since the recession back in 2009 and its probably the most valuable lot up there.
Best Abandoned content on UA-cam. Thanks, Jake
Thanks Rob!
Recession really scaled down everything even the pandemic worsen it with ongoing increased interest rates and commodity prices . Vegas deserves a Resorts World brand property. I mean when I was a Kid back in early 2010s I was wondering why aren't any Resorts world and Hyatt brands at the Strip. Great detailed Video....
May I recommend driving through Van Nuys, California to scout locations for episode #69.
Nice
growing up and walking by this building as a little kid always made me wonder why it was there.
Their first mistake was messing with the Stardust, demolishing it completely and not respecting what originally was built there.
In my fictional world, this project never gets abandoned, already finished and successful
Have you thought of doing something regarding the road to nowhere up in North Carolina by chance? It's pretty well-known
More like the one in Baltimore
Carpetbagger did a video on the road to nowhere about 3 years ago. Would like to see brights take on it.
I've never been to Las Vegas, honestly I didn't think there would be many abandoned buildings there due to the fast growing population of the area but thanks to this video I now have a reason to go visit this city
You make nice researched films. Thanks.
I've been watching since the start, I always look forward to when a new video comes out. Keep it up Jake!
Thanks!
@@BrightSunFilms I appreciate the reply! 👍
I was at the Palazzo when Resorts World opened. Absolutely sick casino
I just visted vegas last month. I actually got to see this project get completed. Unfortunatly, it didn't seem like anything special. It's sad to see what could have been.
An Abandoned episode with an happy ending! Well, sort of! Thanks for your amazing work, Jake!
I never understood how a megaproject that was too optimistic from the outset, took way too long to complete and ended up short of expectations can be favorable over a more down-to-earth project. I'm guessing that American real estate developers need this type of drama.
We drove through Begas this morning and marveled at the Fontainbleau- now I wish I had known about this earlier today 😁
I'm glad this one has a happy ending. I'm so sad that I don't live in Las Vegas anymore. If I did, I could have witnessed its completion. I think good things are going to continue for Resorts World but, Fontainebleu needs to be torn down. It's become such a dated eyesore unlike the old casinos that are now dead and imploded.
Fontainbleu is actually being worked on now. I have seen calls for the job through my union hall. They still plan to complete the project.
@@kennethkieffer8669 I really hope so.
I loved the stardust. I really miss it.
