Interesting history, I didn't know any of this before. The Golden Delicious name kind of worked I guess because I always mentally compared it favorably to the Red Delicious and was more satisfied getting it. Now reflecting on it, you're right, it's a rather meh grocery store apple.
Hay bro, I heard farmers market. Tomatoes are a lot better than grocery store tomatoes. Probably similar with apples. tomatoes grown in the ground are a lot better than tomatoes from grocery stores because I guess a lot of tomatoes in grocery stores are grown hydroponically, not in the ground. I don’t know about the apples though.
I have some friends out in Pennsylvania who have definitely fallen down what they refer to as the tomato rabbit hole; that is, with so many varieties, there’s a lot out there to try. Just like with apples. And they have mentioned the same point you bring up about produce in general being far superior when you go directly from farm to face instead of having a middle man in between. Thank you for your comment, and enjoy the rest of your weekend. 🍎🍏
The tomato’s are grown hydroponically and are picked when they are green; they ripen the tomatoes with ethylene gas, so they look ripe but do not taste ripe
Wow! I was not aware that this apple was from West Virginia. Guess I should bve embarrassed about that, since I live in West Virginia. Guess that explains why they are so widely available here.
You never know when, where, how, or from whom you will get the chance to experience the simple pleasure of having learned something new! It’s a great feeling, that unexpected insight or bit of info that comes along to fill in the gaps in our understanding / knowledge.
It’s kind of funny that you would say that because just the other day I was thinking about how apples don’t have any pretense to them, like if you wanted to learn about wine. There’s that certain sort of stigma to it that apples just don’t have. And if I may be so bold, if you have the good taste to be watching AppleQuest videos, you can’t possibly be that uncultured. lol

@@PRODBYSMH Thanks for filling in some details on the tomato front! Gonna keep that factoid in my back pocket for future reference.

Not gonna lie, as a store bought golden delicious enjoyer, I kind of feel like an uncultured swine now.
Which is fair, 'cause I am.
