I was 14 years old, when my brother Pat, the former Southern Area Light Heavyweight Champion, took me to see this. I can remember it as though it was yesterday. And I still have the programme to this day! My brother Pat was Fosters chief sparring partner at the BBBC gym in Haverstock Hill in Hampstead. Bob was a great person who took time out for all the fans that turned up to see him. Finnegan, did the UK proud that night. He couldn’t have lost to a greater champion. No disgrace there. RIP both of you great men. 🙏🏼🥊
Wow. Although he lost that was one of the greatest efforts ive seen from a British fighter. Not just up against any world champion either but one of the greatest light heavyweights ever in Bob Foster. Enjoyed watching that.
Bob Foster, with his lanky non- muscular build and pencil thin legs, looks like he couldn't break an egg with his punches. But he had wicked, one punch knockout power. Natural, God-given punching power.
Foster had a beautiful left!! Thudding jab. Finnegan looked like he was hit with a power punch. This crowd had Finnegan feeling invincible. Such an advantage with the adrenaline kicking in. Kind of amazing how Foster leaves his left so low almost insultingly low baiting the his opponent to attack so he could catch them on the way in.
I love a good fight, the country or nationality of the fighters is of no importance to me. With that said I’m curious if all Brit commentator’s so biased?? They always seem insecure or something. If I was from England it would bother me. Through the first few rounds if you were simply listening and not watching you would think Finnegan was lucky. He was skilled as hell but for whatever reason these commentators just can’t give credit we’re credit is do with the British guys. it’s infuriating.
Actually Foster was much more noted for his left hook! His ko's of Dick Tiger & Mike Quarry with that hook are among the most noted in history when you talk about left hooks!

And Foster was so good he fought both Ali and Joe Frazier.
Awesome upload and RIP to these two legit Don's of the Noble Art.
Great fight by Finnegan and foster, all heart and soul, just like so many other boxer's of his Day.
Thanks again for the great nostalgia.
What's a GREAT performance by Finnegan!! Showed great heart, belief and skills!!👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Thanks for the video, DAVID KIRKWOOD
Finnegan deserved to go the full distance. One of the best fights I ever saw!
22:33 This exchange to the end of the round makes me smile from ear to ear. The overwhelming underdog making it known that he didn’t come to lay down.
this was Ring's Fight of the Year for 1972, by the way
Really?

Foster had that thump
The Best LightHeavyweight Champion Bob Foster. Great Fight Chris Finnegan.
43:59 straight cross from Foster is straight on the button. What a punch and what a chin by Finnegan to shrug it off in the 13th...
Great quality. Thanks!
Wow! Whata match!!! New Finnegan fan.
Hardly any clinches the whole fight. Great to watch.
Good observation.
A real old school fighter Chris Finnigan, great effort
So Finnegan was 24 when he won Olympic Gold in 1968. Very late turning pro at the same age.
Foster did a job cutting that ring off
..but never rushed his attack. He knew that he would wear-down Finnegan.
would love to have seen a prime Conteh against Foster!
Foster wouldve beaten Conteh in my opinion.
Foster would've mauled his way to an early ko
@@Lord_Hillcrest Foster would have towered over Conteh and had even more sharpshooting room with an enormous reach advantage. A blowout!

Best fight ever.
folklore

He was the British, Commonwealth and European champion.

These are real warriors and hard men Not like the crap today I’m social media jokers Nancy boys
Finnegan didn't have a ko punch, personally I would never take up boxing without that.
Calzaghe
That’s what Foster said about Finnegan but that he had trouble with left-handers. He said his saving grace was that he could jab him.
Ali didn't do too bad😊
46:22 Quick count.
🤣🤣🤣 Could've counted to 20!
@@t9190kp That's true but it was a quick count nonetheless.
