So your neighbors may suddenly be orcs. I read all the books many years ago, they are awesome.
In old-school Shadowrun lore all metatypes have same dna - differences are caused by magic (which makes sense ig, since low magic is what caused them to lay dormant) New editions chalk new metatypes up to small dna differences and mana levels
@@ExeErdna Yeah yeah. I do wonder which one i prefer more tho tbh. Old-school shadowrun overall has cool setting flavor pieces like how spirits aren't defined by the summoner, but are instead either elementals for hermetics or more contextual spirits defined by their habitat for shamans... like, if you summon a Hearth spirit of an office, it might look like a giant office workers. City spirit? "Hey, is that a taxicab glaring at me with it's lights or did i have too much soykaf?"

This was also my problem, they dropped the ball centering on Battletech and gave Wizzards the Click and card game. Once they got their mitts on it they created a Dark Age that Com Star would not only oppose but would have rushed to restore their HPGs. Everything Wizzards touches goes to the trash. Look at Dungeons and Dragons to cut costs their Aniversery Editions used AI and they let down the origional Artists now doing their own things.
I don't know any Catalyst people but considering the quality of 6th edition Shadowrun and the recent Battletech Kickstarters, "love" is not something I see in abundance. In fact apathy or incompetence would be more accurate.

Thank you Splattercat. Modders work tirelessly to create all kinds of extra content for little recognition a lot of the times. And its rare to have their work showcased on a channel as large as yours. It really means a lot to see you do something like this.
I totally agree about the Sega Genesis Shadowrun. Bloody amazing game that did things no other games were doing at the time. So many good systems stacked on top of each other that created an amazing experience that just had so much flavor. I still can't believe how little press it has gotten over the years. It's a game I would adore having updated for modern audiences.
I really miss Shadowrun for xb360. Thanks for the coverage splat. I’ve been enjoying this franchise across so many different media for so long. Happy to see anything related to it.
I loved Shadow Run on the Sega Genesis. I actually played it in the 90's on the Sega Channel that was offered by Cox Cable. It was neet we could download a game and play in from the cable. We played this and some airline tycoon like game i forget. But yeah we were obsessed with shadow run. Hope this mod gets more support.
I remember that contraption! It looked kinda like a 32x. It's a shame that nobody includes one of those in pictures of their genesis with all the add-ons attatched.
I tried this mod out a couple months ago myself, like you really impressed me and reminded me of the Genesis version. The only thing I wanted was the ability to have a permanent team that you could upgrade the equipment and abilities of, instead of having to rehire them every mission. But I spent the weekend playing this and it was a really good time.
I feel like Shadowrun is just cursed. No one has ever heard about the Gensis game, no one I know has heard of these 3 amazing games, I feel like I'm always seeing people mention how they want a cyberpunk fantasy game and it's like hello, there's Shadowrun?? But this mod is amazing, I haven't played it in a hot minute... like honestly yeaaars but I'm in the mood to give it another show. I really hope one day Harebrained decides to return to this franchise and make the Shadowrun game of our dreams!
Coming from someone who had a Sega Genesis, I never heard about the game but it would've been right up my alley. I was playing BG2 for years after it came out.
I played Shadowrun way back on Sega Genesis and 10 year old me was hooked on that game like crack. That game was damn legendary and I ended up jamming on that for years. While Shadowrun goes way beyond that one title of course, that game is how I judge all other Shadowrun games and games like them, and I almost always find them lacking in one way or other. That includes you SNES Shadowrun, the version of the game that it seems all future Shadowruns would be based off of sadly.
Never had a Genesis, but I played the SNES games and loved every minute of it! The thing I liked about it was you were a Samurai, Decker, and a Shaman/Mage all at the same time. I know you can't do that in the TTRPG, but it scratches a BIG itch for me! I usually play a Fighter/Thief/Mage in DnD, I go for the Jack of All, Master of None kind of character.
I played both the SNES and Sega versions when I was a kid and loved them both despite how different they were. I've also played through Cyberpunk 2077 which is it's own thing and lets me know there is still room for something like Shadowrun. I bought the PC games: Returns, Dragonfall, and Hong Kong and it was so great to be back in the Shadowrun world. I feel like the movie Bright had to have been somewhat inspired by Shadowrun too, but there's no acknowledgement as such. I hope these developers continue to build on this as there is definitely a following for it.
I loved all the Shadowrun: Returns modules. But I believe I hit my Faust moment in Dragonfall, when I met that runner lady in a bar. I wanted to just hang out with her for the rest of my gaming. Just enter the game once in a few days, dive into this bar, ask her how's it going in the shadows, get a lucid dream, get a hangover, browse for contracts, eject to real life, rinse, repeat. There aren't many RPGs out there that really made me role play and not just jungle numbers and guess "the correct answer". Shadowrun, VtM: Bloodlines and CP2077. The Witcher series definitely very close, but it's harder because I've read books first and I have a firm canon of how'd Geralt handle the situation.
I Shadowrun in the title and was like "OMG, finally another Shadowrun game!" Sad it is not a new game, already played the Shadowrun trilogy and need some more. The mod is great though.
Nice, I really wanted them to release a sandbox of the SR games. This looks like it might scratch that itch. By the by, a roll of zero will mean zero successes, assuming they're using the D6 system from the ttrpg. Loving the soundtrack on this too. The samples from the SNES soundtrack have tickled my nostalgia.
commenting to help boost visibility on the mod and game, Harebrained shadowrun trilogy is an absolute must play and tbh i was very much saddened that they didnt continue making them cause each one was incrementally better than the last.
You know what's weird? A part of me is aware that neither of the Shadowrun games, Return, Dragonfall and Hong Kong, are actually good games, but I freaking love all three to d3ath. I'm aware of all their problems, just like I'm aware of all the fails of VTM: Bloodlines, but still I can't stop playing them. The plot on all of them is so freaking good! Way better than 99% of the movies and tv shows that have come out in the past 20 years at least. I can't stop going through them, replying each game over and over trying to find that perfect build, You know what I mean? Despite of all the things that are wrong about those games, I freaking love them!
Played Shadowrun Returns. There is literally nothing better than an elf with a shotgun. You can just kill everything with your one character. Now Dragonfall nerfed some of the things that made that build so strong, namely Haste being harder to get and areas being more open as opposed to the tight corridors of the previous game where you could just put a stun wall in the doorway and wait for them to walk into it giving you several turns before they would even shoot you.
100% on the Sega Genesis Shadowrun. One of my favorite open world RPG's of the '90's, too. And so much better than the SNES version, imo. I still go back to it occasionally, for the nostalgia of getting paid to shoot down 20 ghouls in an abandoned building with my Predator pistol as my first run, just to have the cloak and dagger vamp pop up to try to make it a bad run. Gunderson playing games again. No worries, chummer. All in a day's work. If this is reminiscent of that old gem, then I'll definitely be checking it out. Just give me limitless jobs and fun gameplay, and I'm a happy little chiphead.
I remember Shadowrun. It was before I got spoiled by Divinity Original Sin 2. I tolerated reading at the time. And the story of each of the franchise really got me that Cyberpunk feel. The multiple races in a futuristic sci-fi world was very unique. Not like 40K. But damn. If they got some good mods, I might just hop back in and try it.
Oh wow, Shadowrun Unlimited mod.. Is this the very same mod that was trying to make sandbox since the game release? That would make it 9-10 years in development by dedicated fans! BTW -didnt they port the mod to Hong Kong or does it run on both games?
Yeah I remember playing the extremely early variant of this. It was just random encounters back then with shop, money and exp. This looks much more fleshed out.
I played it a couple years ago. Unfortunately, the development is just at maintenance level. The writing is below average, and the main quest isn't finished. You can contribute. I even signed up to the github and contributed things like fixing typos, capitalization, and a double teleport trigger bug in one of the havens. Digging into the editor there's some cool ideas, but still a lot of work to be done. I considered buckling down and really trying to contribute, but it just seems like there are too many strands left unfinished. You don't have to know coding, it's all done in the editor. If you have basic logic abilities, you can open up the missions, look at the triggers and see how it all works. Anyone could really help adding to the variety, even with the same map layouts. Give it a shot.
Shoutout to Sam Powell and his amazing soundtrack of the Shadowrun sega genesis. I agree it's a fantastic game, I put so many hours into that as a kid.
If they could get with the producers of Cyberpunk 2077 and use it's engine, adding the fantasy magic aspect of Shadowrun to the game - I might spot myself in joy.
My dream is that someone someday (ideally Larian or Owlcat or InXile) makes a sandboxy Shadowrun game that has interesting stealth, matrix and astral gameplay
Three types of ICE: White ICE prevents and alerts the system to the presence of unauthorised acces; Grey ICE is able to run traces and eject unauthorised access, it even is able to damage any software the intruder has in active memory; Black ICE can damage the software (even unloaded softs), hardware and even the wetware of the intruder.
Cyber Knights by the Trese brothers may just scratch your itch. Still in active development in EA and I am waiting for it to get a bit closer to 1.0, but looks pretty interesting.

Decking is so bad every group I've ever played with has just given up and hired NPC deckers because no one wants to suffer like that.
And I say that as a Rigger main.
@@Damivin the table top or the video game?
@@MistwolfssTabletop.
I've spent days in this mod back when it first released in Shadowrun Returns. Happy to see it featured on your channel. It is what I've always wanted from an SR game. Kinda what I hoped Cyberpunk 2077 would be.
I love the genesis game so much, I STILL play it to this day on emulators! I'm so grateful to you for showing me this, thank you!!!!
Thank you Splattercat. Modders work tirelessly to create all kinds of extra content for little recognition a lot of the times.
And its rare to have their work showcased on a channel as large as yours. It really means a lot to see you do something like this.
6:38 They're called Mr. Johnson because they'll screw you every time.
They are usually smarter than this one was, though. Mostly, they wait until they, personally, are out of range.
Mans this is a blast from the past shadowrun was how i first discovered you
Fun Story.
Shadowrun is how I found Splat's channel. TTRPG he was in. Great stuff.
This reminds me a little of an old 90s game called "Crusader No Regret" (then the sequel, "No Remorse"). Nostalgic vibes from a 40 year guy here.
I loved those games. Played the hell out of them.
@@Zirnike Same here. Remember how cheesy those cinematics were? 480p quality: "Crusader! Go and infiltrate the lab, to help the rebels!", hahahah...
@@MauMenzori I wouldn't mind a modern remake. 😀
Absolute gem and my first encounter with the RP22/32 IIRC… 😬
Splatty, you did the delivery in the Redmond Barrens. You're lucky it was 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 the Johnson who jumped you
> "Shadowrun"
Splatty you had my curiosity, but now you have my attention.
we've come full circle! my first exposure to this channel was looking for a shadowrun game series on youtube, and finding your dragonfall playlist!
Thank you for spotlight this splat, I can’t wait to dive back into some of my favorite games again!
I still fondly remember your OG shadowrun playthrough.
This mod looks pretty neat, now I am itching to go do some SRunning of my own.
this is one of my favorite games man. soooo good.
Splat was the pe son who first introduced me to shadow run.
I now believe it is one of the greatest cyberpunk dystopia future stories out there.
Some love for Shadowrun, looks like a cool mod!
I've been looking for something like this all week.
Shadowrun is like VTM they have a massive popular niche yet it just doesn't convert to the modern games.
I enjoyed the mod that remade the Sega Genesis Shadowrun. I'll have to try Unlimited Mod and check the remake mod again, thanks Splat
Shadow run is one of the coolest settings I have had the pleasure of meeting, I feel like such a geek for just know the lingo in the first 5 minutes:D
So happy someones modding these games! Highly underrated series and IP!
Genesis Shadowrun is the game I go back and play every couple of years, definitely one of my top games of all times!
I'd forgotten how much Harebrained's Shadowrun looks like OG Syndicate and this closes so much of the distance!
I love that mod :)
Nice to see it get some exposure.
Buggy, undeveloped, underbaked....yeah, sounds like Shadowrun. I can't wait to play it!
This chummer runs.
Dude, as a 48 year old guy, Shadowrun on SEGA Genesis is still my favorite game ever. It was so good.
Nice to see how far this have gotten. I last played it back in 2014 when it was really early on in development by a different guy.
That’s it I’m watching gameplay of the Genesis version next.
Splat playing Shadowrun, Mechwarrior or Warhammer games is always a good time.
The HBS Shadowrun games are so fucking great! Some of the mods like Unlimited made for them are truly exceptional.
I am excite for this project and I hope you do get eyes on it.
Also that’s what made Shadowrun Chronicles was so fun!
You had me at Shadowrun.
commenting to help boost visibility on the mod and game, Harebrained shadowrun trilogy is an absolute must play and tbh i was very much saddened that they didnt continue making them cause each one was incrementally better than the last.
Shadowrun is probably my favourite franchise of games. I wish they'd revisit sr returns and give it an updated ui, combat system and achievements
SR:HK is where it's at. I just found this mod for that too, excellent!
We rented the sega version and had to pay a huge late fee because we just kept it for like 4 months as we continued to play it. good times.
That's funny. I'm looking at the Second edition of the TTRPG Shadowrun from 1992 sitting on my shelf right now. Cool world, very crunchy system.
I wish this wasn't ½ made. HBS had an amazing opportunity but didn't follow it up.
Shoutout to Sam Powell and his amazing soundtrack of the Shadowrun sega genesis. I agree it's a fantastic game, I put so many hours into that as a kid.
Lucky me. I just poured myself a glass of whiskey and Splat calls out a drinking game.
sega shadowrun, hundreds and hundreds of delightful hours in that amazing game!
Love to see more in a stream! Maybe as a samurai!
Whoo Hoo! a sandbox open-world Shadowrun? YES!
Genesis version STILL has the best hacking/decking system
Love shadow run this looks class
I will pay AAA price for this if this works well
Three types of ICE: White ICE prevents and alerts the system to the presence of unauthorised acces; Grey ICE is able to run traces and eject unauthorised access, it even is able to damage any software the intruder has in active memory; Black ICE can damage the software (even unloaded softs), hardware and even the wetware of the intruder.
This is a dope idea. I miss shaddowrun.
The Sega Shadowrun game was indeed amazing
man, I would play this for all time.
Cyber Knights by the Trese brothers may just scratch your itch. Still in active development in EA and I am waiting for it to get a bit closer to 1.0, but looks pretty interesting.
I really cant understand why they havent created another Shadowrun, such loved games..
Oh neat, I streamed some Shadowrun Returns for a laugh cus i liked the HBS Battletech. I really enjoyed it. Having a BTA style Shadowrun sounds awesome
I would love to see the continuing adventures of Three-toe.. as I' can not play these games
Every night before I lay my head down to sleep I send a little prayer that Firaxis one day gets the Shadowrun rights…
I played and loved the mod years ago... looks very much the same as back then. Still great mod ❤
