- A Staten Island man was left confused after he amassed several hundreds dollars in fees from tolls and tickets he said he never received. It turns out, another driver was using a fake license plate with the same number as him. FOX 5 New York's Lissette Nunez has the story.

the real crime is costing to go over a bridge, or into or out of places only accessible by bridges. when i was driving a semi.. 37$ here, 47$ there.. bridges into NJ killed my profits lol... But had to park at the truck stops.

Ban tolls. Your taxes actively pay for the road system and many parking lots. Why should you have to pay more?

This this is the problem with video ticketing systems. It wastes much of your time and money and the worst part, the frustration of having to prove your innocence!
We had that happen to us.
Florida sent us a ticket from the turnpike. Same tag number, different car, different state.
We have never driven to florida, to far away.
I told police this 2 years ago now they got a report to look at what I was saying people steal plates imagine the ones that’s smart enough to just steal car that matches exactly
They did that to me. They even had a picture of my car crossing a bridge while I was 150 miles away in Vermont.
That happened to my dad once. They claimed his car was in NJ when he was in Cape Cod. It took ages for everything to get sorted. This was over a decade ago.

$500 in free tolls is not worth getting caught by the cops with faked plates on your car
drive any highway and you can see altered plates and paper plates. the police should have a squad with tow trucks pull these vehicles off the roadway if they are invalid then arrest the driver and tow the vehicle. the only way to reduce or eliminate these offenders is to hit them in the pocket. alot of these motorist have no license, insurance, or not registered with motor vehicles in order to avoid paying taxes and should be a felony.
You should apply for new plates with new numbers. Straight away.

I worked as a call representative for NJ EZ Pass for 3 years, I tell you that not a day went by when someone called acting up and refused to get off the phone unless those violation administrative fees were gone.
If you hang up on someone then you are fired automatically unless you are a lead, supervisor, other privileged class in there or are favored/connected.
Situations like this involved looking at the picture and a supervisor would probably definitely take off both toll and the administrative fee.
I imagine something like this would demand a memo going out on desks explaining what to do when someone claims that their plate was copied.
In my mind, I always wanted to tell people to simply cover up license plates to prevent having to go through the EZ Pass letter violation process but the calls were recorded and I didn't know how quality assurance and supervisors would react.
Good tip about asking for a supervisor to review the situation, but covering a license plate sounds like evasion and may be a crime.
I live in California, and once a year I drive cross country to Maine, and all the tolling agencies take months to send a bill, sometimes they want late fees, or when I pay it, it charges my credit card but doesn't apply it to the bill. Then I have to send them a copy of my credit card statement via certified mail to prove I did pay it. I tried signing up for EZ Pass but they switched me from the NY Thruway Authority with no monthly fee to the Port Authority with a monthly fee. It's always something. The bureaucratic incompetence is worse than California, but at least we don't have many tolls. I didn't mind paying cash, but cashless tolling is a nightmare to contend with after a road trip. Next time, I'm avoiding all tolls, even if it takes me an extra day.
Toll charges collected by license plate number in the US? In India, there are RF Chip stickers in the car scanned at toll plazas for toll collection.

@@kingknights5107 how do you pass through the tolls then? You pay cash but you get fines for not having chip? Here, no chip means you pay double toll to pass through.
@@nitinkumar29 is similar here in the US. we have an "EZ Pass Module" on the windshield inside the vehicle. we pass through tolls and everything is done electronically. It gets taken out of your credit card/bank acct. no more cash. if a person has a car that does not have an EZ Pass Module and drives through the toll, the Toll/Bill is sent via US postal mail, by license plate number.
However, it's a little more expensive than using an EZ Pass, since extra cost is now incurred when billed by mail.
But a person like this who is committing a fraudulent act would prefer to alter their license plate and not be charged either via plate and or EZ Pass.
If you frequent tolls on a regular basis. it's smart just to get the EZ Pass Module, since it will be more cost beneficial.

Sadly, once this leaves the news cycle, these charges that this man didn't acrew will probably show up on his credit score. This kind of thing happens to people all over the country. It isn't going to end because it's lucrative and easy money for the government

If criminals aren't punished for their crimes, they will only be bolder and crazier next time. Plus, it is such an easy case to crack. Simply adding the license plate in the "wanted" list to raise an alarm and have the police chase it down.
They just want their money, they dont care who pays it.

I saw a vehicle that scrubbed out the blue lettering on a CA license plate. Even in daylight, I could barely tell the numbers and letters on it.

Guys ima telling you getting a shade plate cover or a plate that smokes out the first three letters is a must cops can pull you over for it but to them it looks shady but the camera angles and glass blurry it shade plates you drop before it flashes on put it back up after and they will never know unless they see you stay woke my friends haven’t paid tools or sledding tickets in 3 years
