    This video deserves so much more love than it has. What an excellent non patronising guide for people on the outside of anxiety who want to help. Scientifically supported solutions. *chefs kiss*

    When I use these terms “everything will be okay”, my wife feels like I’m invalidating her. That she has a deeper issue (today it was mold) that “I know nothing about!” It just ends in an argument

      Thank you for sharing this, @stugreenwell8722. Communication, especially in a relationship, can be incredibly nuanced. The phrase 'everything will be okay' is often intended as a reassurance, but as you've experienced, it can sometimes be perceived as minimizing or invalidating the other person's concerns. It's important to validate the feelings of our loved ones and discuss specific issues in depth when needed. However, it's also crucial to remember that I can't provide personalized relationship advice through this platform. If you and your wife are encountering communication challenges, it may be helpful to consult with a qualified mental health professional. Thank you again for bringing up this important point.

      You're welcome, @cliffbrown4217. Thank you for sharing your experience. Understanding that anxiety is a real and often debilitating condition is the first crucial step toward offering meaningful support to your loved one. Many people misunderstand mental health issues like anxiety, thinking it's something that one can simply 'stop,' so your openness to learning and adapting is commendable.

    On Friday my girlfriend and I had a date night in during which she gave me the rundown on her particularly hard week especially at work. She is experiencing a lot of anxiety over things that in my mind really are nuanced and in my opinion and from my point of view the things that are bothering her are annoying but should not lead to anxiety. I wasn't necessarily giving her advice I was just telling her that my only reaction to the situation is that I don't want to let it bother me, so I don't. Well she told me today that she did not like me saying that and it was hurtful. She said it was like telling a drowning person to swim harder. Of course that makes perfect sense to me; if you want to live you will swim harder. But to her it was hurtful and the wrong advice to give somebody who is dealing with anxiety on an almost daily basis at this point. I have absolutely no clue how else to help her other than just listening to her and not giving advice

    • @sullivanandassociates
      @sullivanandassociates  Рік тому +2

      It sounds like you're genuinely trying to support your girlfriend, @1989gibbi, and it's clear that you care about her well-being. Anxiety can be complex, and what might seem like small issues to one person can feel overwhelming to someone experiencing anxiety. The analogy she used about drowning highlights how advice that seems logical might not always be helpful for someone who's struggling.
      Listening without offering solutions is actually a very powerful form of support. Sometimes, just knowing someone is there to listen without judgment or immediate solutions can be incredibly comforting and validating for someone with anxiety. It can make them feel understood and less alone in their struggles.
      You might also consider gently asking her what kind of support she needs or finds helpful. Everyone is different, and she may have specific needs or preferences for support that you're not aware of. This could also be an opportunity for both of you to learn more about anxiety together, which could help you understand her experience better and provide more tailored support.
      Remember, the fact that you're seeking to understand and wanting to help is already a significant step in supporting her. Keep the lines of communication open, and continue to show empathy and patience.

      just know that when she goes to you, she's not asking for advice. if she wants advice, she'll ask for it. she just needs someone. and often, for me, i find that hugging her for a long time helps her. she has anxiety to the point where she shakes but i can always feel her stop shaking when i hug her

    • @sullivanandassociates
      @sullivanandassociates  11 місяців тому

      @urijahe, your approach of offering physical comfort through hugging and being present without the pressure of solving her problems is incredibly insightful and caring. It's a powerful reminder that sometimes the best support we can offer someone who is struggling is our silent presence and physical reassurance. Your sensitivity to her needs and your ability to provide comfort in such a tangible way is a beautiful testament to the strength of your connection. Thank you for sharing your experience; it’s a valuable perspective for anyone looking to support a loved one with anxiety.

    I find that more people blame anxiety and use it like a crutch rather than actually try to get better; Refuting anything that doesn't line up with their current beliefs, never learning because of this, never improving. They choose to stay the same or get worse.

    • @radioraven6794
      @radioraven6794 2 роки тому +3

      Can't help someone who isn't willing to help themself but they can be influenced if you know what you're doing.
      Keep an open mind, it's the only way to learn.

    • @sullivanandassociates
      @sullivanandassociates  Рік тому +1

      You bring up a thought-provoking perspective, @radioraven6794. It's true that for some, the line between genuinely experiencing anxiety and using it as a crutch can become blurred. However, it's essential to remember that everyone's experience with anxiety is different, and the path to improvement isn't the same for everyone. It's easy to judge from the outside, but it can be incredibly challenging for the person living with anxiety to take the steps needed to improve. Sometimes, what appears as resistance or unwillingness to change may actually be a symptom or result of their anxiety.
      You are correct in saying that keeping an open mind is key to learning and growth, both for those supporting a loved one and the individual facing anxiety themselves. It's a complex issue that often requires a nuanced approach for both parties involved. Thank you for sharing your insights.

    Some of my Family members & colleauges are feeling with anxiety and making others feeling anxious.How to deal with them

    • @sullivanandassociates
      @sullivanandassociates  5 місяців тому

      @DigitalTrendzy2023, it's definitely tough when someone's anxiety impacts those around them. Remember, dealing with anxious people requires patience, empathy, and clear boundaries.
      Here are some tips:
      Educate Yourself: Understanding anxiety can help you respond with compassion rather than frustration.
      Listen Actively: Let them express their worries without judgment. Sometimes, just being heard can be incredibly calming.
      Offer Reassurance: Remind them that you care and are there to support them.
      Encourage Healthy Coping: Suggest activities like exercise, meditation, or spending time in nature.
      Set Boundaries: If their anxiety is triggering your own, it's okay to take a step back and protect your own mental health.
      Suggest Professional Help: If their anxiety is severe or affecting their daily life, encourage them to seek help from a therapist or counselor.
      Remember: You can't fix someone else's anxiety, but you can offer understanding and support. Taking care of your own well-being is also crucial.

      If you're in need of support, especially when it comes to anxiety or mental health challenges, it's crucial to reach out to local resources that can provide immediate and personalized help. If the request for support is financial and related to healthcare needs, there may be local charities, community health organizations, or social services that can offer assistance or guide you to the necessary resources.
      For emotional support and guidance on coping with anxiety, professional help from a licensed therapist or counselor can be very beneficial. They can provide strategies and treatments tailored to individual needs. If you're in crisis or need someone to talk to immediately, consider reaching out to a helpline or a trusted friend while you seek professional guidance.
      Remember, asking for help is a strong and important first step. Take care and be sure to utilize the support systems around you.
