@@dkfromthebay The distillery would put them in the box...if that's the way they intended to sell them, prior to being shipped to the distributor wouldn't they?
This is a great story three generations picking year stated bourbons to blend together as a family. And I’m sure it taste great. However it’s not 450 great by a long shot. There are better and older scotch out there at a better price. Not sure who or why it’s priced like this. But for me I’ll stick with rare breed and single barrel Russell’s. This is a hard pass.
I think Wild Turkey is testing the release price threshold, based off all the Secondary craziness. I mean basically everyone has bumped up their msrp. At the same time inflation had to catch up at some point too, so I dunno which it is.
I'm sure it's good, but for the price, it had better be in the top 10. Curious to hear what you think of the Russell's Single Rickhouse. I picked it up yesterday, but I haven't had a chance to crack it yet.
Fred scores based purely on the whiskey and not price/value - which is fair because price/value is subjective to the buyer. $450 might be rent for one person and for another person that's how much they spend on wine at dinner. That said - price inflation matters. If the large brands like WT and BT continue increasing the price on LE's then we will continue to see smaller brands follow suit. If the Big Bois price their LE's at $500 and you price your LE at $150 people will just assume it's not special - unless it already has clout behind it like BTAC (which is BT, but you get my point). While BTAC is only $125 MSRP we have seen BT jump on the inflation bandwagon with Daniel Weller Emmer Wheat. Heaven Hill hasn't quick jumped past the $300s into $400s but I wouldn't be surprised if next years special releases see a massive price hike. 4 Roses LEs are creeping up. The only real holdouts are Maker's (Cellar Aged for $150 is not egregious - I would have expected 200+ MSRP), and Jack Daniels. JD continues to release their special products at prices below the prices of far inferior STANDARD release bottles. Coy Hill came out at MSRP of $70 last year and the American Single Malt had similar pricing - Those are two of best bottles in their categories. JD 10 and 12 are great and under $100 MSRP. I understand the bottles I listed from JD are very hard to find at MSRP but you also can't find WT Generations at MSRP. Difference is that the other bottles started at a lower point so the secondary tax is far less. WT Generation is being scalped at $1500+ as compared to Weller Cellar Aged at $500 and JD 12 year at $250. My philosophy is that I'll buy a bottle at a 10-20% markup ONLY if it's LE and only if I don't already own it. I'll never pay full secondary and if I own a bottle I'll never pay over MSRP. Too much whiskey out there to waste my time and money on FOMO and Secondary pricing.
Thanks for the review. I received an email from wild turkey, offering me a bottle with a price tag over $500. I passed. I can buy a lot of good bourbon for that much money. I appreciate your reviews and especially your books!
Great review as always, Fred! And hey, I am a huge Wild Turkey fan that would love to have one of those rock glasses. So if you don't like them, here I am! Lol 😅
Thanks Fred! My bottle has not shown up yet or I would join you n a pour!🥃….hopefully it will be here tomorrow? Or maybe the next day? I just know it’s on the way!
450 bucks or probably close to 500 after tax I just can't justify the price tag on this one for what to me seems like a very well blended Russell's single barrel.
Hey Fred, a little constructive criticism, the frame rate on your videos is really bad. Not sure if it's the webcam or the way you're exporting. Would love a higher frame rate. Great content as always. Cheers.
Contrary to the roundtable yesterday with the "big 6" being unbeatable...I hope they price themselves out of business. I feel sorry for folks who only drink bourbon especially from the "b6". $450 can f#ck right off!
Guaranteed it's not worth the HUGE price tag 🤷🏻♂️ Free bottles ALWAYS taste better. Some of us actually have to go out and spend hard earned money on these products. With that said... I'll pass LOL
Thanks Fred. Got the wild turkey email offering me a bottle. Looked at the price tag at over $500. I passed. I can buy a lot of good bourbon for that kind of money. Really appreciate your reviews and your books!
Speaking of personal responsibility. I was docked by the health department because the women’s restrooms didn’t have signs warning against alcohol consumption while pregnant. When the health inspector walked out saying “I’m going to have to dock you a few points” I was shocked!
I like how Fred's recording setup is the same age as the whisky.
Also, cmon campari, that price is nuts.
Bought one in NC a few weeks ago...no Box, no rocks glasses....just the bottle for $450.00....Is that a Media sample?
Might be the distillery release.
They dropped early (a distributor mistake) in NC

HAZAAAAA! now this is a pour with HISTORY behind it. Thanks Fred!!!

Jason at Mash & Drum rated this 3rd out of 4 Wild Turkey products that he blind tasted (1st was RR 13 yo, 2nd was RR Rickhouse D, 4th was Rare Breed).
I think the hate around Generations is the price tag; clearly not for everyone. Solid review though Fred, thank you!

I love how you still film with Nokia
I like how you started reading and decided real fast, that's way to long 😆

Good review, but the price is ridiculous. These distillers are laughing all the way to the bank on this craziness.

It's definitely out of my budget, but I'm glad you can throw me your opinion on this one, cheers!

The Blind Barrels logo...like the box over your shoulder. Fun stuff
Great stuff Fred, do you like Rare Breed? I get banana peel on Rare Breed all the time.
Thanks for reppin' 505 New Mexico Chili!
Is it just me or is the past few videos unnaturally jumpy?

I was uploading a video for something else while recording, so I am pretty sure I just overloaded my Mac

I just spent my hard earned cash on it. I’d rather pay and enjoy than always wonder! Life’s to short
I’d love it too if it was given to me for free lmao
