    I just ordered the ergo, and I appreciate your review, it was one of the reasons I bought. I'll be using a Falcam F38 quick release in the arca mount. I find it interesting that you photo live music. I have broken my wrists.... 2x each. I love DSLRs, but keeping my right hand palm up and holding weight all the time gets rough. So I found a maker with a CNC to adapt the best handle I've ever used. It's a gopro stick that's semi-oval with neoprene padding, it's incredibly comfortable to hold, even for longer periods. I'm planning to put the platypod on top of that, mount the camera & go shoot. I like to shoot costumes, especially at sci-fi cons, (which can be a lot like shooting music) and I think this will work really well. Thanks again.

    Love how Larry & Skip just keep innovating. I was already impressed they added the threads to the plate for light attachments and extended versatility. Now this! Great unboxing video Steve.

    You actually got finished product. everything you showed is exactly what I got on the elite

      Yeah, technically it was a pre-release product, but at the point where no changes were likely to be made, so I have to call it pre-release just to be safe.

    I've had mine for a while now - it's a brilliant piece of kit!

    Hi Steve. Great review. My Platyball Elite just arrived. Am watching/rewatching videos on how to use it before I attach it to a tripod and go out (I *only* do outdoor/nature). Big feature: no tripod-head drift!

    I was going to shoot an unboxing of my PlatyBall Elite. Saw this and realized it would be a complete waste of time. This is a great video. Thorough unboxing and gets even better from there. Very nice job.
    By the way, I have a good radio voice, but Steve's is really tremendous.

      Hey Steven! Thanks so much for the kind words man. Much appreciated. Here’s the big question… do you like it as much I do?

    Nice review. Can’t wait to get mine! Ordered one of each from Kickstarter.

      After having played with both of them, I kind of like the idea of having one of each. Let me know what you think when you get it.

    I’ve watched your video and imo as a landscape photographer, It’s a great looking ball head and I love the electronic spirit level on the elite. I’m not convinced about controls though, in cold weather when your hands are cold I can see them being a bit fiddly and wonder how reliable they are after time. I won’t be rushing out to buy one just yet but wish you all the best and I look forward to what other users think 1st. Thank you for showing us this interesting product 👍👍

      Hey Gordon,
      Thanks for watching, and the thoughts on the ballhead. I’d suggest checking out Dave Williams who has used it in very cold areas I believe - he used it and a pre-release Platypod Extreme on the Ice - and Scott Bourne’s thoughts too. The have both posted about it in various places. As to the controls I don’t see that as an issue. I think they have a temp rating on the product that’s pretty low. Their site might have more details.Thanks again.

    I was in on the pre order for the Elite version. It’s a very nice piece of gear. The only grip I have is it is hard for me to grip and squeeze the tighten and loosen buttons as I have petite weak hands. This of course is not a flaw with the Platy ball, it is just something I had not considered pre purchase. It gets harder too when you have a lens on it.

    • @BehindTheShot
      @BehindTheShot  2 роки тому

      Hi Janice,
      Great point I hadn’t considered. And it may be magnified by the fact it was designed with a physical mechanism, to allow you to “feel” the tightening. With air you would feel it the same way, but that might be easier for some hands.
      The lens being on it didn’t affect me however.
      I’m curious, are you going to continue using it with that issue you described?

    Congrats to Larry, Skip and the Platypod gang! Innovation is hard to come by, but not so much for Larry. Question - did you have a chance to try it on the Platypod tripod? I'm curious how high the camera sits on the Elite when attached. For me and what I do, lower is better, which is one reason I love the Platypod so much. Thanks for the review Steve!

      I did. It worked great for me. You’ll see a clip in the video where I have the 5D4 ,with a 150-600, on the Platyball Elite on a rock. I was shooting the daytime moon.

      @@BehindTheShot Ah, I watched it but missed that it was on the Platypod. It looks like the camera sits a lot higher than it would on the Benro ballhead I have from Platypod. Not ideal for toy photography if that's the case, but a nonissue for any other type of photography on a normal tripod. Thanks

    • @BehindTheShot
      @BehindTheShot  2 роки тому +1

      It is higher. The ballhead itself is pretty tall.

    Very good video Steve, well done. I noticed the eyecup in your R5. Could you let me know which one you have? I have been looking for one, so if you have any comments on it (good or bad) that would be very helpful. Thanks in advance

    • @BehindTheShot
      @BehindTheShot  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks Gabriel. That isn’t the R5 in the video, it’s the 5D4. The eyecup there is a Hoodman. At this point there is no option for the R5. Canon’s design made that tougher, but my understanding is that Hoodman is working on it.

    I got my Elite several weeks ago (have been bust with "work") and not had much time to play with it. I needed to watch your video to understand how to tighten up the Arca lock system. I did not think the written instructions made it clear enough. I sincerely don't consider myself to be "slow". I sincerely thought I had a deflective unit, but I now know how it's done. Thank you. One issue that I don't think you covered is using the extra plate with leveling bubble. I don't understand how you can see that bubble when camera is mounted on it. I have subscribed to your channel and look forward to other blogs and videos.

      Hey Charles!
      Thanks for watching, and your time commenting. Yes, I didn’t address the plate - I should have, but my cameras already have a plate. For me, I think the ideas was to level with the plate alone and then put the plate on the camera. That’s easy because it’s just spinning it on, no hex / Allen wrench needed. The other option is use the level in camera - if it has one - or the Elite level.
      Thanks again!

    First day I used my Platyball Elite, I put my tripod on my shoulder and somehow it hit the release button my camera fell off to the concrete. Scary! The other drawback is the battery life as it is almost completely drained after the first. It was cold (40sF).

      Yup. I’ll be honest, I had played with it as prototypes for a long time, and I still thought “maybe it’s a gimmick”. Then he sent these to me. Dayem. They not only work, but improved my experience greatly.
