Sharks in many ways the larger ones at least at least have intelligence similar to canines both dogs, wolves, coyotes etc. They are naturally curious. A peaceful being that's not threat to them and perhaps offer food and affection likely is something they would desire once in a while
1:47 That one shark when the Remora was in its eye just like
“Not right now! I’m getting petted”
The trust demonstrated here is quite stunning as the Sharks didn’t close their beautiful eyelids which is generally an automatic response. -This little insignificant detail is actually very significant. A bond never before seen.
Strictly speaking I'm not sure a shark can close it's eyes the way a mammal can.
@@wadetaylor47
Of course they can’t. But they have eyelids. Look into the corner of your eyes nearest the bridge of your nose. Now, the little fleshy pink bump is just before the Whites of your eyes is known as the corner of your eye OR Caruncle. This is the last vestiges of your Reptilian Eyelids. Ditto.
Except for that one that got poked in the eye by a remora.
Let’s see her do it without wearing chain mail armour next time to tear your bonding theory

For everyone wondering why she's wearing chainmail, it's to protect her from their teeth while she removes fishing hooks and other things that get stuck and caught. She has formed lots of bonds with sharks because of this and "word" seems to get around since many come to visit her for it.
There are plenty of lovely videos here on UA-cam with people not wearing chainmail and interacting with sharks as she does :)
But why on the whole body though? Wouldn't just hands and arms suffice or just in case that sharks go berserk and eat her as a whole?
Khelgar Ironfist sharks don’t have hands or paws, and they are curious, so the only way they have to “investigate” something is by biting, even if they don’t want to hurt us with these bites our body’s are too soft and we end up getting hurt, it’s for protection. They are wild animals after all
I was about to make a comment asking about the armor, thanks for the cool info
Besides shark bite protection mail is apparently also sometimes worn by electricians in case of mishaps with live current - being wreathed in conductive metal creates a Faraday cage that keeps you from getting fried.
Apparently also sometimes used as "socks" to protect from snakebites IIRC.
@@magekarp4531 exactly. They are very inquisitive and curious creatures, it's just a shame that it's results are so dire.
It's a behaviour called mouthing for those who don't know, there's videos of them chopping down and biting on shark cages and rubber boats etc. They don't mean harm and it's not an act of aggression, they just want to figure out things.
I like to think that wild animals are talking to each other, slowly speading the word that getting petted by these strange two-legged beings is actually *awesome.*
I'm just enamored by the chain mail diving gear. It's such an interesting method of dealing with shark teeth punctures since chain mail was designed for this exact reason, dampening blades and sharp object impacts. So to see it being used here is just amazingly intuitive.

It’s amazing that sharks are seen as these brainless eating machines, but we have to remember, they can’t tell the difference between humans and their usual food that they eat.
Yes it’s sad that people can get eaten by sharks, but it’s not like the shark does it with malicious intent.
Sharks are really cool creatures, and it’s amazing to how well they can bond with a human being.
They actually can. Most shark attacks happen in murky or dark water. During such they more heavily rely on the organ in their nose for detecting electricity. Infact usually shark attacks end on their own after they start, when the sharks get a bite and decide it doesn’t taste right. Again keynote is Usually. They still are dangerous.
@@justbrowsing4925The other problem is that even a test bite can be fatal to a human. I'd be willing to bet that most human deaths by shark bite are entirely accidental on the shark's part.

It's incredible when an animal (not your pet) trusts you imlicitly and seeks your touch!! They're intelligent beyond what we understand, they're conscious beings that're as loved by the divine as any other being in the universe
Exactly why we must protect them💯
Sharks deserve respect and appreciation. They're important to the world we live in.
They’re thinking “what a great cleaning station!”.
You bet! it's probably the reason why they all crowd around her because they re conditioned to respond to touch.
Shes a fool, they’re ripping her off for a free petting job. We need to raise attention to this scam!
Or alternatively: Snuggle with weird ape and get free food.
All pleasure derived from petting ultimately comes from grooming. This is even true for humans. You'll also find that animals who do not participate in any kind of grooming are kind of "meh" about petting.
So, it's really quite the same as petting a dog or someone gently stroking your own head or back. Sharks normally gain this grooming pleasure from feeder fish, so I believe with reason that they still get the same pleasure from being pet even if not being actively cleaned. The sensation feels nice to them either way or they would not do it.
Sharks are very very very sensitive in their snout region, crucial for hunting.
That ring mail or light touches I guess overload their senses
Those who are wondering, some sharks does have to move constantly to keep air goes through their gills but most of the sharks, like reef sharks, which is the shark we see in the video, they could stay in the ocean floor and rest because of their pumping motion of their pharynx

I've always been more terrified of a dolphin than of a shark
Dolphins actually tend to be more aggressive than sharks. They also tend to do... well, to put it lightly, some really nasty stuff. Like chewing on puffer fish to get high (and the fish probably doesn't survive that encounter).
Dolphins have a good rep in media because they have human-like intelligence and are "cuter", while sharks have been demonized for no good reason.

In actuality, it's that kind of fear being pedaled that helps prevent attacks. No matter how cute some of them might come across, they might also become a force to be reckoned with; the woman in this video did mention how certain sharks have dominate personalities.
The kind of fear, sewn into our minds about these sharks, is what makes us respect them; not in a way that one may consider friendly, but it's a general feeling of "don't f*ck with it the wrong way." Sharks share something in common with the likes of guns and motorcycles: they *require* respect. If you don't respect a gun, you could severely hurt yourself or others; if you don't respect your motorcycle and get cocky, you could likely crash and die. If you don't respect a shark, and the primordial birthright they earned as the apex predators of their eco-systems, you can and easily will get attacked.

Yeah, remora’s are cunts sometimes
lol
Fly emirates • Remoras basically help the shark clean up after eating, think of them as shark butlers. Sharks can't stay still for long anyways, they have to keep moving or they will not be able to breathe and die. They're not like fish.

Interesting thing that noticed in those shark videos is that you can see, that they aren't bloodthirsty creatures all the time, because there are a lot of different fish around here in the footage. Fascinating trally
I love your respect, empathy, and love for the sharks-and that you emphasize that the interaction is “on the shark’s terms”-you don’t force yourself on the sharks-they come to you. ❤️.
The polar opposite of every shark movie. So cute!
The polar opposite of how ppl think of Sharks Period.
0:46 day 5, they still think I'm a reef shark
Lmao
Sharks are not ocean dogs. They're ocean cats :3 Ocean dogs would be seals xD or dolphins
they will eat her leg someday.. but not today
Wow I didn’t noticed that

Amazing and mesmerizing to see yet another example of humans being able to make a connection with animals considered dangerous. Though the instinct and predatory nature always remains, still there are conditions under which a deeper connection can restrain those tendencies as long as the human remains respectful, mindful, and calm.
Beautiful and her diving suit shows shes no fool. Animals can be unpredictable.
Sharks don't have hands, so the only way they can really inspect something is to bite it. Curiosity can be dangerous!

"Should we bite her?"
"Nah she's wearing some chain mail or sth"
If they want, they still can easily destroy chain mail with tons of force bites ... but 99% of shark "attacks" are ... "i dont know you, how do you taste?" "uargh, not my taste, bye" and sadly our body isnt really prepared for shark taste tests :D

Some of those fish bite on and leech the shark, leaving a nasty hole after they’re done. I forget which ones those are
@@amisfitpuivk Possibly cookie-cutter sharks, although there's probably other species to consider.
I get that reference.
I don't know why, but this brought tears to my eyes. I have always feared sharks, and this footage has really made me think twice about my fear of sharks just being aggressive killers. Thank you for the beautiful footage 💙
Those shark-dogs are great. Do not bleed in their presence and all will be well. 😍

I love the small companion fish wich bites the shark into the eyeball suggesting the journey has to go on. hahaha :D 01:44
Realistically the only reasons are shark would attack someone is because
1 : They are starving and got desperate
2 : The water was murky and they mistook you for prey
3 : Lamb Sauce
In clear water and under good circumstances sharks are oddly friendly , it's adorable .
4 : *It's a shark movie*
Most shark species can't digest humans because we're often not fatty enough for them, tigers and bulls might be able to but most can't. When they bite they're often repulsed by our blood.
But I do agree with you, as their habitats and prey items are being destroyed and overfished they do become more desperate. Some even go after fishers catches who dive and stab fish (can't remember the name) and go after the caught fish. Sharks are essential to our ecosystems and health of our ocean, we really do need them!
And while some can't overlook the terrible work of Spielberg and Hollywood of their successful demonisation of sharks and that they perceive them as bloodlusting monsters, they're predators like any other who want to survive, eat and so on. Hollywood has done such a disservice to these magnificent creatures.
What about the blood smell, making them go berserk?
Jason Adjiwanou that is a myth only fish blood and cow blood attract them and human urine attracts them
@Spondam D Gigi
*Hol up...*
I just think it's funny you listed those 3 reasons like they're totally reasonable and only an idiot would get accidentally mistaken for prey or coming across a starving shark right?
"Do you have any pets?"
*"Well, its complicated.."*
I'm kind of a... "fish person" myself...
