Back pack to vehicle mount - progression idea - water fed pole window cleaning

  • Some thoughts on how to progress from back pack to more productive, higher volume working capacity by making a vehicle mount form a backpack.
    This is not an ideal solution as it will cause strain on the backpack and can cause it to burn out in just a few months but even if you can get 3 months from it for a £99 backpack the increased productivity alone will more than pay for itself and then some.

    A very simple addition to this demonstration setup.
    Get a few lengths or polypipie or john guest 10mm hose and a T piece joiner and build a simple Y hose so you are drawing water from two barrels at any one time
    Great video Darren

      @@Darren-Green i know the older streamline dual tank trolleys used a similar setup. There's no reason why you couldn't deploy this method to four barrels. Once the initial priming is done you'll have more water for longer. The only draw back is you'll need four foot valve filters

      @@AW-Services I think the dismantling side it would be a ball ache as you need to refill barrels when empty. Unless the barrels stay static and you use a transfer pump.

    Darren, I started out with a Trolley system, not a backpack, but I rapidly found swapping bottles over every few secondsa right clat!. With a bit of thought I set up a system which uses 12 dip tubes in twelve bottle, which all feed in the trolley. Basically the 12 bottles act like a single 300 litre bunded tank. The dip tubes go from 12 down to 1 then I use the trolley as the pump and battery. I use 100m of hose on a reel with my brush. Its real easy to use and quick to work. The added bonus is I can easily remove it all from my van so I can then use my empty van for bike/ trash/ junk/ car boot...anything really, which I couldnt do if I had a tank etc permanantly fitted into my van 😁👍

    Or you could have a trolley system run from outside the car. You have to rem that on each barrel change you have to release the air lock and that's on each barrel changeover. So you would need to do that outside the car. You don't need 100 metres of hose, you can use pole hose as extra and jobs that are further away from the car you can wheel the trolley nearer to it, that's the idea rather than have lots of hose extended everywhere and you would need safety signs for that. Also I have never and have never known anyone carry a backpack on their back. The 1st thing to throw away are the back straps as you would just carry the backpack to the job

    • @Darren-Green
      @Darren-Green  5 років тому

      Never had a safety sign in my life and trailed hoses all over for 10 years plus. Also most trolley systems are 4 to 5 times the cost of a backpack so can be prohibitive for a noob. This was not a backpack vs trolley vs whatever it was simply a demonstration as to how to become more productive. Lastly these little pumps don't tend to have 'air locks'. of course when the water is out the water is out and you will need to let all the air pass through as the new barrel of water starts to suck up but I've never had them 'air locked' as we have had on van mounts in the past.

  • @SunshinewindowsAu
    @SunshinewindowsAu 5 років тому +1

    The hose reel would be putting that little pump and battery through its paces. $250aud gets a pretty good pump around 3gpm 60psi and $90 will get a good sized battery that will run it for 2 days between charges. 👍

    • @Darren-Green
      @Darren-Green  5 років тому

      Guessing you're American working in $?? And you are right, this is no permanent solution, just a demo of how to evolve. Then from here £250 gets you a Genie in a box (pump and controller set up with battery) www.thecleaningwarehouse.co.uk/genie-in-a-box---pump-box-by-the-water-genie-2277-p.asp

    Need to add a swivel connector between the hose reel and back pack otherwise as you reel out from the hose it will twist and twist until it snaps.
    Overall a good demo how on how to achieve the next step in WFP

    Hey Darren thanks for the vid. I’m curious? There must be quite a flow rate drop off and pressure drop from the tiny pack pack pump through 100 metres of such small diameter hose to your brush head? Can you demonstrate your findings. Great work. 🧐

      The yellow hose is 8mm -- the blue is standard garden hose diameter. I think its 32mm. As for strainers etc all the parts in this vid you can get from thecleaningwarehouse.com in Wolverhampton. I did after all film this in their car park. :)

    Hey I'm just starting out as a window cleaner been watching a few videos on water fed poles and nobody seems to be using a squeegee after they have rinsed off do you not have to with water fed poles or does it have something to do with the pure water they use?

    • @Darren-Green

      No, it is all to do with the purity of water - pure water equals streak and spot free finish.

      Water Genie backpacks are fine, we have had a few and they don't let us down they do the job just grand. We also have gardiners which we bought cause the Water Genie was out of stock one day. Remember though backpacks are not designed for working flat out 8 hours a day.
