The first imported versions of the truck were sold as Dodge D-50s and they were sold from 1979-1980. Based on the first generation Mitsubishi Forte pickup at the time. Then they were rebadged as Dodge "Ram" 50s from 1981-1993. There was also a Plymouth badged version sold as the Plymouth Arrow truck from 1979-1982. Mitsubishi starting selling the trucks directly in the U.S. as the Mitsubishi Mighty Max from 1982 until 1995. 1995 being the last year of production for the truck in the U.S. period.
Even after Chrysler brought out its homegrown Dodge Dakota in the fall of 1986 for the 1987 model year, the Ram 50 continued to sell well on the basis that the Dakota was actually larger than the Ram 50.
Our family bought that same truck (automatic trans) new in 1987. $10,200 out the door. We put a Meyers plow on it and it was a great little plow truck. We worked it hard and it always delivered. I once hauled over 2000 pounds of material in the bed. That looks like the long bed version

i own a ram 50 from 1987 and it is the sport so it has a 5 speed manual and the same 2.6l i4 and im planning to make it into a sort of sport truck but its a tough little truck and taught me a lot about how to fix my own things also the size comparison you did doesn't give justice to how small it is in real life ive lost my truck behind normal sedans since it is lowered but it is a great truck i love it
We had one in my auto class I loved being in that little truck
The turbo diesel D50 was fast AF. My uncle was a career diesel mechanic and his D50 in 1989 would smoke his coworkers' Nearly new IROC-Z Camaro. D50 had minor tweaks.

I have a 1988 D50 4wheel drive Automatic short wheel base rare auto the same color as yours for sale here in Ga it’s in great shape but I do like yours
I’ve got a 1985 2WD and a 4wd 1985. They rusted terribly here in New Zealand. I just got one that’s been in a barn 8 years

I just found 2 of those small trucks and I'm taking one of them to teach my daughter how to drive stick shift and also is going to be hers first vehicle
Awesome little truck, really wish I could have kept in in the collection.
They had a 2.0 liter n/a entry engine level as well as, 2.6 long stroke 2bbl and the 2.3Tdiesel. All said, these were reliable, tough and capable trucks. Unfortunately depreciation after purchasing was ridiculous so, you had to work them to death and put em out to pasture.

also if you are looking for mods for that engine there is a mitsubishi starion or a dodge conquest that have the same motors that have turbos and a few other upgrades

Unfortunately I can’t help ya, not sure if it was OEM or aftermarket. It was on the truck when I bought it
my 84' has the same bumper so makes me think it was an oem feature on some but who knows!

there are a bunch of cool oddball cars from the chrysler X mitsubishi era. The D50 has that mazda/ford truck vibe of that time too, which i find amazingly funny.
Oddly enough Actually for for a few years the late "80s Mazda b2600 4wd used this same engine, I own an "88 Mitsubishi mighty max 4x4 truck just like this one but mines red
@@mitsubishikid1187Yes the 2.6 litre G54B carbureted Mitsubishi engine was used in the Mazda B2600 from 1986 until 1988. In 1989 Mazda dropped their own fuel injected engine in the truck (Mazda G6 engine) to which the 2600 became the 2600i.

have an 84' ram 50 4x4 mine doesnt like to go into first too easily either, makes me wonder if maybe thats a common thing on these lol
Yeah mine hates going into first sometimes, I put it into second and then it'll downshift into first

Got 2 goldens & D50 also. D50 was free, runs decent no body damage. But im a builder not a mechanic so I better sell before it atrophies from neglect
