Just came here to post my 2006 Nissan hadn't had AC working for the last two years and I just now found this video. You don't have to pull it out though as an FYI to others, zip ties will fit around the black clip in the video, at the back the hole is just wide enough to slip one down through it and around to tie it up. I don't know how else to explain it but yea you can put zip ties in it without pulling it out and they will probably out live the car itself.
Either way incredible video, a $400 fix into a "I have some zip ties laying around" fix for virtually nothing. Added some refrigerant today and I'm a happy camper.

I had this same problem and just fixed it. There is a seller on ebay named rocketscraps that fabricates custom 3D printed brackets that are WAY better than any other existing fix. He also sells whole units that are pre-fixed with his custom parts. The next best method would be to drill some holes and use machine screws with nuts and washers on the other side. Now if I can just find a good way to fix the center console lid, which breaks off at the hinge point.

I had 2 2006 nissan sentra's. First one with this problem used JWeld and the fix held for about 4 years until I scrapped that car due to high mileage and son getting a 2024 sentra. So I took his 2006 sentra due to half the mileage and better condition. Now the second one has the same issue. Since 3d printed parts are good enough to use as gun parts, I figured I would purchase a unit from Rocketscraps. Thank you so much for this information because his fix looks to be the best I have seen.

This was a very helpful video. Thank you.
All your trail blazing here made my disassembly take less than 2 minutes.. Shifter already out of the way. You really helped me out.
I managed to crack the right side cable switch clip area of mine while disassembling.. The plastic has really reached that stage where it's not what it once was. That piece has far less stress put on it than the left. UV epoxy fixed it fine.
In trying to fix mine with epoxy, then reinstalling, I could see why the part failed in the first place. The cable there pushes really hard towards the driver and breaks out that front pin/bridge to the clip. When one goes, the other pieces collapse like a house of cards.
I ended up drilling 4 small holes to allow zip ties. 2 to hold the clip, and one, the cable.
Epoxied the broken plastic parts back on for good measure, but the zip ties are doing all the heavy lifting. Without the ties they pop right off again.
If you use zip ties that are skinny enough, this is holding it better than it was originally.
I lubed up the cables with some bicycle cable lube for good measure and replaced the grease on the gears, and it seems like it's a little less stressed now.
Once again, thank you. It was only so easy because of your video. I'm actually pretty confident this is going to hold as long as a new/old replacement. The design is a little flawed and those parts aren't built up enough for this amount of stress.

Hey jimthecarguy, I wish I would have watched your video before investing in a $50 ac refrigerant that was totally not needed. After watching your video I managed to perform this repair in about 45 minutes. I know you called it "temporary," but the actual plastic ties you put I think is the real brilliance in your repair and with some planning I was able to strategically drill holes and get the cable set quite securely using my own landscaping ties. A HUGE THANK YOU, kind sir!

I wanna personally thank you for this video. I have an 03 Sentra that was giving me this same issue. I do a lot of my own work because I don't trust local mechanics to do this job without insisting on replacing the whole head unit without offering alternatives. You can use a small zip tie over the whole clip assembly if the plastic war has completely broken off, just make sure you save the clip, place it on the control line like normal and crank down the zip tie, if you can get it tight enough it seems more secure than the normal clipping apparatus

A lot of this Sentra vehicles specially 03 - 06 suffers from all kinds of things concerning A/C. We have a 2006 that we use to go around and I wanted to finally fix the A/C because the car is in good condition. I took the car to 2 technicians and the car came back basically the same way blowing cool sometimes and most of the time is was kind of warm. They gave me all kind of excuses but nothing good came out of it. I decided to work on it since I have all the tools but I was coming out of a serious surgery so I did not want to bother and that when I found out this vehicles A/C are nothing but headaches is like they have some evil inside the A/C. Eventually I replace the air compressor with a Denso oem, replace the expansion valve, the condenser with the accumulator and the pressure sensor I even replace the blower resistor sensor. I also check for the controls and they work fine and check for leaks with ink. Also had the evaporator cleaned which is the only part I have not replace and the A/C is still not giving the cooling it needs to keep that car cool at 85-90 degrees. One would think after all that should be doing pretty good but so far noooooo. Before anyone asks we vacuum the system for 1 hour yes 1 hour.

The switch gears were snapped and the wire that activated heat or cold was stuck on heat. I took out all of that crap too. I went to pick and pull and grabbed a new control panel. Installed it and switched it to cool. It worked. Now my thermoamp is broken sooo... there’s that.

Cost me 40 bucks to replace the whole head unit. I don’t like going to mechanics because the prices are outrageous. It isn’t too terribly hard to replace these things and the parts are cheap. Not to offend anyone but mechanics seem to spend 30 bucks and pocket hundreds.

My 2005 sentra, that climate control unit failed after a 2 or 3 years owning so 4 or 5 year old car then. Cost about $250 for the Nissan of Chesapeake VA to replace it. And now 6 or 7 years since it failed again. Specificly the directional knob. As the vents are stuck in one position. Bought a used one off eBay for 60 bucks. I have a question my A/C (Nissan Sentra 2002) blows hot air all the time even if it is turned off.
Do you think it could be the Blower Motor Resistor? Or could it be another problem?
    Thank you.

The first thing that you need to check is the freon level and see if the compressor is turning on.

I have an issue with the air blower on my air conditioner/heater when it's turned on sometimes it makes a noise like the blower is rubbing against something. The noise is not continuous it just comes and goes. My car is also a 2006 Sentra so any feedback will be greatly appreciated thank you!!!!

Sometimes leaves or something get stuck in the blower wheel but if there is nothing in the wheel then the motor is going bad .Keep me posted.

I’m about to attempt to fix my 05’ Sentra due to my defroster not working. The vents are constantly blowing air though... do you think diagnostic code P0128 (coolant thermostat) may be triggered due to this? Just curious as I might have to replace the actual thermostat as well. Thanks

@@jimthecarguy hi Jim thank you for the video! I have an 06 sentra and the AC only blows out the feet vent and defrost vent and the main front vents aren't working. What do u think is the problem?

excellent video. I just bouht a 2006 nissan ALTIMA and suddenly I have no heat (only AC). I was doing my homework in advance to determine how to troubleshoot the cause. Now I realize I am suspicious because the top storage compartment ( above the radio and heat/cooling heads) that you removed in this video is cracked on my car. Making me wonder if there was a car accident or did someone crack it bc they pulled it off to troubleshoot this kind of issue ... i.e. no heat.

Its almost winter anyway, and where you are, everyone probably just leaves it on heat from October-March.

Jim- the video was very helpful. I was able to determine why my ac is not working. However, on my 06 sentra my cable does not seem to slide in or out. Do you know how I can replace that cable?

Ahh Picasso. It's a temporary permanent repair...that customer won't fix it until it doesn't work anymore. Nice temporary permanent repair!
