      mariaVTCgirl gorgeous creatures and unique color patterns. They can be shy but I do see mine out all the time. My P. metallica female has a specific spot where she likes to sit all the time out in the open and I see her every day. If I don’t see her then I know she’s molting.

      Thanks! My wife used to keep cockatiels. Sweet little babies. She had a male that loved her but he hated me so any time I showed her any affection he would run over and fuss at me. He would never bite but he would do that thing where they kind of nuzzle you and shake their head kind of nibbling. Just fussing to keep me away. I told her she should have gotten a cockatiel instead of the ring necks but she wanted something bigger. Beautiful ornamental man. Just a tip for pokies that are so docile yet wants to play dead lol twist off the cap a little bit and lightly blow it may help her back up a lot faster just worth a try next time you have one that don’t want to move down I know 9 times out of 10 their pretty quick lol but she wasn’t having it lol. That's a good idea. I'll try that next time. Yeah she was being extra stubborn. She's funny because she'll hold her ground but doesn't threat posture just refuses to budge. I'm sure it would be different if it wasn't a stick poking her but she just sticks to whatever surface and says, nope, you aren't making me move. XD

    • @RenegadEfw260
      @RenegadEfw260 4 роки тому

      Tarantula Haven lol yah I no I’ve never seen one just refuse to budge and not threat pose, not run, not freak out she just let you push her around hahaha she literally was the least skittish pokie as far as straight nudging her as if she is a dog to move off the bed and she just kept letting u push but fake sleeps lol but should be good for future re houses if needed or husbandry care and such. But yah my ts that do that usually new world and maybe 2 out of 60 do it I blow and they go when I first did it I blew softly cus at the end all though their big their still a “insect” well you know like the weight of them, and then I blew hard thinking wow their heavier then I thought.... 💨.... nope it pushed her right out on her back luckily it was against the sub but yah they are still very light to human action just keep that in mind when blowing you will gust them right down lol

    I love watching your channel and from someone that until a few months ago was a total arachnophobe that’s a big step. I don’t know if I’ll ever be ready to own one as I still get the heebie jeebies when I think of them in my home. If I’d to think of any that I’d like to own up top are the pokies and also a GBB. At the height of my arachnophobia when we were touring Sri Lanka on holiday I came face to face with what I now know to be a pokie. We were in Polonnuruwa and the hotel was pretty much in a jungle setting. The rooms were individual lodges and there seemed to be a host of insect life in the rooms. We had sat outside to have drinks and beside me was a tree, it was dusk and something moving caught my eye. It was the biggest spider I’ve ever seen and had these huge long legs. Talk about pokies bolting! I bolted back to the rooms absolutly panic stricken.
    I was so glad that we were only one night in that location..
    Looking back on it now it was definitely a beautiful pokie.

    My pokies just walk out of their old enclosure and into the new one. Once did I have one continue up the other side but it stayed in the box.
    My C Darlingi has ran up and in and out then at me. She owned my room for about an hour. Then my Skeleton leg ran out of her burrow and up my shorts into my pocket. That was a fun one. She is a psycho. I have pics of her in a threat pose, almost upside down, with drops of venom on her fangs. I have never not wanted to rehouse a new world before 😂

      Yeah, I could have done that with my P. regalis but I wanted to demonstrate a more controlled method of moving them. My P. rufilata, however, she would have been all over the place. She ran circles around the jar before she settled down. My E. murinus is also pretty crazy. She threat postures quick and drips venom from her fangs. I haven't had her bolt because she usually just retreats in her burrow but during a rehouse it's all threat postures and slaps.

    When I rehouse my Pokies, I chicken out and just leave the catch cup in the enclosure until the spider exits it by itself. Not very film worthy, however. I have had them U-turn on me before or run up the tongs, so now I just play it safe and boring.

    I really loved the first pokie. Baby had back🤣. They're both beautiful. You made that look super easy to. Makes me want to get one. I have a P Irminia and so far she's really been no biggie. The one I want can't be shipped from another state and there's no reptile shows close to me so I'll probably never get it. But I will take those noisy feather babies off your hands if you want my address 😜🤣🤣. They are beautiful Alex😍. Tyfs God bless you

    I keep several species of ts including a M. balfouri communal. My question is as follows: I placed a Homoeomma sp. "Blue Peru" 2 1 Cm sling into an acrylic enclosure of 10cm x 7 Cm. It has a hide and water bowl. I threw in a micro cricket and the t ran away from it. So I pre-killed it and threw it in. I haven’t seen the sling in weeks from when I acquired it and it has not eaten anything pre-killed. I can’t see any burrow from any side (including the bottom). Should I try to dig it up and place it in small deli cup? How long should I wait before committing this “intrusive ”act. Gorgeous animals by the way. I am keeping a P. irminia and cambridgei as prep-work for Poecilotheria

    • @TarantulaHaven
      @TarantulaHaven  4 роки тому

      Most slings will scavenge pre-killed prey. If it is not eating then it may be in premolt but without a time frame as to how long you've had it I would't know if there would be any reason to suspect there is something wrong. If it is a 1cm sling and no obvious sign of a burrow I would check the size of the ventilation holes in the enclosure. Slings have been known to squeeze through holes that are large enough for them to fit through. If this is not a possibility i would take a tooth pick or a thin skewer and kind of dig some of the substrate aside to see if you can find a possible burrow. I don't mean poke and stab with a sharp stick but kind of scratch the surface lightly. Some slings are pretty good at covering their burrows. If you can find a burrow then shine alight down in it to see if you can see the sling. A closed burrow is usually a sign that your sling is molting so I wouldn't bother it if you lay eyes on it.

    • @gavnat9991
      @gavnat9991 4 роки тому

      It pulled the disappearing act the second day I got it. It is impossible for it to have squeezed through the ventilation holes. It has never eaten since the pre-killed prey I left it. I did try to scrape some substrate away before and could not find any sign of a burrow. Should I dig deeper? It is 1.5 inches of substrate. Never had this happen before.

    What substrate mixture do you prefer with your terrestrial/fossirial/arboreal?

    • @TarantulaHaven
      @TarantulaHaven  4 роки тому +1

      I make my own. I've kinda of moved away from coco fiber. I use a mixture of top soil, ground peat, vermiculite, and a little bit of sand. I adjust the mixture depending on species. I'll add more soil and sand if fossorial. More peat and vermiculite if arboreal. I would like to do more excavator clay with some of my arid species but it's so expensive and hard to find right now.

    I don't think pokies are as bad as some may think all spiders can have a bad side they think were trying to kill them or eat them I've only had 3 different pokies the Vittata fasciata and Formosa I've found they are defensive in there home but once out they act kinda different and I've held all 3 of them at some point due to them bolting during rehouse but I put my hand in front of them they walked right on me and I got couple pics and they went back in there home

      Michelle Gay pokie is a short version of Poecilotheria. This is the genus of the various Poecilotheria species in the hobby. It’s also kind of a term of endearment especially since they are demonized because of their venom potency pokie sounds less menacing.
