Transmission Mount Replacement: 1993 Lexus SC300 (5 Speed Manual)

  • An original 23 year old transmission mount is replaced on a 1993 Lexus SC300 with a manual transmission due to excessive engine vibrations thru the shifter knob and a jerky behavior (car lunges forward and backward during downshifting.) For me, this was one of the easiest jobs performed with noticeable results.(Your results may differ)
    After installation, the vibrations thru the shifter knob and the jerky behavior when downshifting to 3rd or 2nd gear were still present but lessened. The main culprit is due to worn engine mounts, which will be replaced soon.
    Notes:
    Toyota OEM Part labeled as "Engine Insulator"

    Just want to say thank you for making these videos! I have a 1996 Sc400 but the process is about the same for both. Going to change my steering rack bushings this weekend because of your efforts! :)

    This is pretty much identical to the procedure for a 1999 LS400. Thanks!

    After I replace 95Lexus sc300 automatic trasmition the car has a really bad vibration when driving in 30-40 but driving in 20 is fine what would be the problem? U joint,transition mount,torque converter, carrier bearing?

    I recently just bought my first car (1994 toyota soarer, 2jz-ge non vvti) and these videos are great- easy to follow and understand. I subscribed and hope to see more useful videos! Also my soarer for some reason has a SC400 badge on it but i thought it was a SC300?? I live in Australia if that means anything.

      +maxitaxi234 Thanks. Yeah 2JZ's are standard on the SC300 but who really knows the true history of a car? Using the VIN, pretty sure the model of your car will come up in the report or title when you register it in your country.

      +strumpeteer yeah it was imported in 2001 and for some reason on the registration its titled a "2001 toyota soarer" its a bit funny.

    Another great video ! You can probably tell (because of all my recent comments) that I'm binge watching your channel because it's so awesome !!!! I've been doing a bunch of preventive maintenance over the last year to get my SC ready for its next 100000 miles. I think it would be good to include these - not only because you mention it is simple but that's a huge bonus :)
    How did the engine mounts job compare to this one ?
    And another question: do you think I'm insane to do this maintenance proactively - should I just wait for these things to fail before I fix them. I figure at 100000 miles and 25 years old I might as well replace as much of the rubber as I can....but I don't really know much about cars, to be honest.
    Nice work !

      IMO, you should replace it when it only when it begins to fail. It's an important part, but it's not vital (meaning if it fails, it won't leave you stranded on the road or make the car inoperable). Engine mounts are harder because you have to support or raise the block a little bit and the bolts are very difficult to get to without the proper extensions.

    Do you recommend any companies that are aftermarket transmission mounts or should I always get OEM? Theres a few on amazon I'm about to order called Eagle BHP for only $21 or I can get DEA A4299 Transmission Mount for $53.

    • @strumpeteer
      @strumpeteer  6 років тому +1

      If the Eagle BHP fits my car I would use that instead of OEM because the design is so basic I don't think OEM or aftermarket would be that different. I couldn't find an aftermarket transmount that fit my manual transmission so I went with OEM.

    Is the automatic transmission cross memory different from the manual transmission cross memory?

    • @strumpeteer
      @strumpeteer  5 років тому

      They are exactly the same (four bolts to the frame and four bolts to the transmission) HOWEVER, the mounting surface for the trans mount is different. Keep in mind that the trans mount for manuals is different one for automatics.

      As far as installation, the concept is the same. However, the part# is different.
