  • Lexus steering wheel vibrates at above highway speeds of 55mph+ when road is not smooth. The cause for this problem is you center bracket between the chassis and transaxle/transmission. VVT-i 3.0 engine require special order mount, i tried to buy the non VVT-i and it did not align properly. I spent soooo much money on LCA, shocks, tierods, rotors, pads, CV axles and new tires and nothing helped. I managed to get new replacement tires for free at America tires which does not happen often because i stated road noise was bad. I hope this video helps everybody in need of a solution with no prior luck. Subcribe and stay tune for other upcoming fixes on my 2000 Lexus. This video work for 1997-2001 Lexus ES300 and Camrys.

lexus is a good car. it can last for life.
my friend had the same issue.
i help him change the trans mid mount.
there is a trick to further improve and reduce the vibration.
i use a polyester foam (5mm to 8mm thick) or yoga mat and cut it to size.
3m spray adhesive and glue it on the mount spot.
install the new mount as usual.
this method further reduces the vibration even further.
you will notice a huge diff.

I appreciate the video man. I have been felling the vibration for a few months now and thumping when i shift to different gear from park. So i am replacing the rear motor mount and your video gave me the guidance how to replace the trans mount.

My highway wobble was intermittent also. I recently replaced all 4 of my brake pads. My front brake calipers were sometimes slightly binding, not fully letting go of the rotors.... Causing the rotors to overheat and warp.... Causing the intermittent wobble. Also caused horrible gas mileage. Solution: new front brake calipers and rotors.

Can’t wait to try it! Just replaced driver cv axel (had a ripped boot anyways) thought that was the culprit...not so much..😂

This is interesting discovery. Normally the top mount goes bad first and is easiest to replace. The front and rear motor mounts going bad correlate to noise in drive and reverse.

From the design of this part, it seems like a LOT of pressure is on the rubber, so naturally after a few years it becomes unable to do its job the way it was designed. I think my car has the original one! I also have a shudder from 3rd gear into overdrive (4th) in certain conditions I haven't quite been able to diagnose :/

I'm at 128k now and still going strong. The other mount on the motor is going out too, it happens to be keeping the passenger axle in place o__O vibration is very minimal compare to before now.

I do have one question for you. When you removed the old mount obviously you removed the bolts to loosen it. Did you have to lift the trans in anyway to get the old on out and put the new one in? If so, how did you do it?

    • @salstats
      @salstats 7 років тому +5

Brett Oliver yes I had to lift the trans up by simply jacking it up with a wooden block. Sorry for the late response, my account logged out.

I thank owner for providing this info, yet don't understand why he doesn't provide real procedures even he update the thread. My guess is he didn't do it himself, yet I also see people do business in his garage so doesn't want to share skills.

Could this also be an issue on the RX300? My steering wheel has a significant vibration through the wheel at highway speed. The tires have been rotated/balanced several times and it doesn't seem to make a difference.

my car start vibrating after a while on the highway. when i slow down enough it stops. then i accelerate again to high speed no problem and it sometimes comes back after a while again. any ideas? i can be driving like 120km/s for several minutes, then it just starts randomly, so it can't be the tires, plus i already had them balance and alinged, it's driving me nuts, because it's hard to diagnose as it never hapened on city streets but usually randomly starts on the highway. there is major vibration like being on a rumble strip if your going fast enough. please help.

Reading the forums on Lexus website makes you think that this car is designed and driven by a bunch of young ass teenagers hardly any information more just throwing out random things on their car as in what they've done to it like sweet rims or tires but really no real educated information

If the mount is bad, will it cause the engine to shift hard when the transmission shift into gear?
