Enjoying the channel, Darren. I’m currently an Envoy captain and hopefully I’ll be a few years behind you. I’ll be doing some CRM training later next month, let me know if I can buy you coffee or maybe a rib at hard 8 lol
Another great video. FCO and many Italian airports have extremely complicated SID’s, STAR’s and clearance procedures. The rest of Europe is more straightforward.
Thank you! Great video. FYI The long line waiting for the Vatican Museum, where the Sestine chapel is located is due to a couple things. It takes a few hours to walk through the incredible museum before you even get to the chapel. Entry closes at 2pm because it takes the staff 4 hours to clear the visitors and make sure things are secure. I’ve been through it twice and can truly say it is well worth the morning wait. If you want to visit St. Peter’s, the wait is much much shorter.
Always look forward to your videos! 15:40 We went there in August, was completely dead. There was probably 30-40 other people around, that’s it. And 16:50 I was in that exact McDonald’s!
11:52 that's funny. I've eaten at that outdoor table before. Got there before closing in december so not many tourists, returned my board and they gave me a free glass of wine for cleaning up after myself.
Next time you are in Rome, get gelato from Fiordiluna in Trastevere. Awesome place. The strawberry is incredible. (But only available if it is in season.)
My mom was a maritime engineer on ships back in the 80s. She told me never to drink water from the springs due to Italy having issues with Legionnaires' disease in their water back then. Be careful.
One more question. I always thought every flight ( I fly from TPA to Europe and vice versa) went up the east coast and through Halifax,Gander, southern Greenland, etc. One time when I came back from Frankfurt to Tampa the flight went straight across the Atlantic and the first land we saw was the east coast of Florida, Cape Canaveral area. I thought an airline had to be a certain distance from land in case of emergency. To summarize, I was surprised the pilot went straight across the Atlantic and not the northern route that every flight I've been on does. Do airlines do that route a lot?
Great question. Depends on the verification of the aircraft of its ETOPs rating. The Airbus 350 has the highest at 370 meaning over 6 hours from a suitable airport.
I didn't notice what time it was when you ordered the latte', but Italians get a little miffed when you order anything with milk after 11am, with the exception of a macchiato.
@@geekontheflightdeck Anything except dairy; Italians feel as if dairy in the afternoon negatively affects digestion. Their substitution may have been intentional lol. Apparently, macchiato is acceptable however, since it's just a drop or two of milk in the coffee.
As always, Darren great content... Maybe you went over this before, but im wondering... you are on reserve from home always... I've seen other pilot / flight attendant vlogs where they have to hang out at the airport to be called assigned a flight... Is that a totally different subject because i don't recall you ever were at the airport on call waiting to be assigned.. Thanks... Ryan from Florida.. Your next layover in mia / Fll let me take you to the beach for some natural therapy...😅
Some airlines have Airport Ready reserve. The Flight Attendants at my airline have that. Pilots do not. Why? Good question. My previous airline had it for pilots and flight attendants. I did a full year of it when I was the bottom pilot. As far as the beach….I don’t care for natures toilet but thank you for the offer. Ha
I can only talk about them as I can’t use cameras in flight. They are rarely exciting. Normally chicken or beef with a salad, bread, dessert and fruit.
always enjoy the perspective, and the 'it is what is attitude'! :) Ordering 3 pairs of glasses because you lose one. _Exactly_ the right response! Curious - it sounds like with the energy drinks that you might have brought them through security? If so, is that something you're allowed to due as a crew or recently changing internal regs for liquids? Thanks!
It was only moderate. Crossing the ocean we are in a non radar environment and assigned a speed and altitude to stay clear of other aircraft. There were aircraft above and below us within range to be an issue if we changed altitude. Most of us were down low to avoid the turbulence. Going much lower (in the 20s) would have consumed far too much fuel. Moderate turbulence is annoying but perfectly safe to fly in.
Heey, i like your videos especially when you talk about your workload, tasks... etc but what i notice that everytime you go on a layover you go out by yourself, its something usually you like to do ? because what i know the majority of pilots prefer to go out and discovering the city with the whole crew (captain, 2sd officer cabin crew..)
Hey Darren. Question. Have you ever flown a flight and noticed a celebrity on board? Without naming the person if so. Do you guys mention it upfront? do you geek out. any stories?
We do get told every now and then about VIPs and celebrities....no big stores. Woody Harrelson flew my little ERJ 145 to Jackson, MS and waited on the Jetbridge for his bag.....no one knew but us
I don’t comment on policy directly related to my employer. My understanding is two fully qualified pilots need to upfront or a new pilot and a check airman. A line pilot can’t fly with a pilot still getting trained which would happen on a 3 pilot crew

Tegucigalpa (old airport). Next to Bogota then DCA (only because of the extra briefing needed for security and airspace)

The one is the sid the second is the transition ... its common for italy ... milan has also SID followed by a transition
of the 777 flights out of DFW, do you think there is a consensus on which ones pilots prefer? Or which ones all the senior pilots snatch up?!
Generally the high value (most hours paid in a short time span) go senior along with Hawaii. No one wants London.

When in Uniform crew members in some countries are allowed to bring liquids to above passenger limits.
What is the largest and the most senior Kirkland base for 777?
Largest DFW....most senior is skewed as the #1 pilot is a 777 CLT CA and #2 is a DFW CA
Do you think a350 1000 is best long flight?
I have no experience with that aircraft
